Am happy for you Gary that you have a wife and hope you are such a man.
You have a wife don't you?

You might also be glad that you don't have to live in airless mud hut now, unless you choose to.

Infant mortality was high back in the day. So many children died young because they didn't have sanitation and proper hygiene and there were a lack of hospitals and medical care.
In the countryside you are at the mercy of nature most of the time, doctors can not get to you unless they drive for miles, in Australia they have flying doctors for remote places in the outback.

That's something Ma would have considered for her offspring, esp Mary who was blind.

I don't live in Australia, but something that haunted everyone who heard about it was when Lindy Chamberlains baby Azaria was taken, apparently eaten by a dingo.

A movie was made of it starring Meryl Streep as Lindy Chamberlain. They were camping in the outback. A dingo is like a wild dog in Australia, like a wolf would be in America, or a coyote.

In Little House in the Big Woods, the story goes that Pa literally kept the wolf from the door. I can't imagine what that was like, I mean I live in the suburbs and we have a council that does dog control and registration. If you do have a dog it must be fenced on your property and on a leash if not. There are some dog parks where you can let them run around unleashed...dogs can and do kill so it's something children need to be aware of, and they would if provoked or wild and hungry, take a baby.

People tried to paint Lindy Chamberlain as a child killer, and not believe her story, but she was vindicated after she went to prison. There are loads of cases where someone innocent gets blamed for death, cos they can't jail a wild dingo.

It was called 'Evil Angels'. Everyone praised Meryl Streep for putting on an Australian accent.

I wonder how many women would tell you that 'a wife and mother' can have a great life! 😍

It is certainly the most honorable life that a woman can have. ("in God's eyes")
I totally agree that a wife and mother can have a great life 🙂.

However, although marriage and motherhood are certainly honorable, I'm curious why you say that in God's eyes it is the "most honorable life that a woman can have". Are you basing that off of a certain verse, and if so which one? 🤔
I am just now getting to reading this and will get back to you as soon as I reasonably can...

:coffee:
I have not forgot about you - "working on it" - based on more than just any one certain verse - need time to look up and compile a list of passages/verses...
I finally got around to giving this some more in-depth attention - and, after thinking about it for a bit...

Please consider my statement to be my impression of the sum-total of all that I have read in the scriptures - I did not actually mean for it to come across in a "thus saith the lord" way.

I am not going to try to push the idea that it is [absolutely] the most honorable life that a woman can [possibly] have ("in God's eyes") - in that particular sense, I retract my statement; however, in the big picture of things, it does seem to be the overall 'average/normal' life that God would like for women to have - based on my impression of the whole of scripture regarding this topic.

In other words, to put it succinctly - it is my opinion based on my overall impression of the totality of what I have perceived from reading scripture.

Thats ok GaryA we all read the Bible and take from it what we can.

When I read the Bible I get the impression that God was really wanting to forge a holy, righteous nation that He could call his own, and of course, he needed good Mothers to do that. While every female has the potential to be a mother, sometimes it's not the case, and certainly not every mother will be loved as a wife. (As depicted in the Bible, also, many became widows)

Husbands are called to love and cherish their wives, whether they have children or not.

I also think God showed grace and mercy to those who's motherhood may have been taken from them. I really don't think any woman would CHOOSE to be a prostitute or sex slave if they were treated well as a wife and mother.

This is why you can't blame women for being picky or choosy about desiring Mr Right, and if he doesn't appear, to carry on alone.

Back in the day, you may have had no choice at all in whom you marry, and when you got married certainly you can't change who your husband is. And if there is no recourse for divorce, you are bound and stuck with him for the rest of your life. Many who lived in Ireland had to because the Catholic church didn't allow divorce, and they didn't have birth control either, so women were expected to pop out babies every year or so until they were exhausted.
Also, as has happened and still happens, the husbands would drink, and come home and abuse their wives. It has happened since the days of Noah, even he got drunk.

Now this has got me wondering where was Azariah's dad, Lindy Chamberlains husband at the time she went missing? What was he doing? Why wasn't he protecting his baby daughter and fending off the dingos?

You could also ask that of Madelaine Mccann's parents. What were they doing at the time of her disappearance? They certainly weren't with their children or looking after them.

.... (marriage) does seem to be the overall 'average/normal' life that God would like for women to have - based on my impression of the whole of scripture regarding this topic.

I agree with that statement, marriage is a good thing that God invented and it is part of His plan for a lot of people.

However, wouldn't your statement singling out women apply just as much (or more) to men? Why only state that it is the average/normal life for women specifically? 🤔

Of course - just as much - not necessarily more - to men. I am not "singling out women" - context context context.

Why only state that it is the average/normal life for women specifically?
Not specifically - but rather, context - it started with, and is based on, a highly-focused remark at the end of post #12 about the expectation of a wife and mother not having their own life. This is the contextual starting point for my remark.

It's just ma in Little House on the Prairie did not necessarily want or like the life that Pa provided for her. It's known and shown she would have rather lived in or near a town instead of being so isolated on a prairie with little contact with people outside her own family. It wouldn't have been her choice, Pa was the driving force behind their move.

OK, fair enough.... but do you see how it might seem rude if I told you that husbands and fathers have the most honorable lives in the eyes of God?

Would be untrue and kinda rude, considering that you are neither...

Anyways, just food for thought ☕

As a comparison to [other] men who are not a husband or father? I would probably agree and wonder why anyone would think it to be rude.

Nonetheless, I do understand what you are getting at - but, it was not my intent to offend anyone - I was only stating what I believe/think.

I certainly was not insinuating that the direct opposite was true - that any other life path was actually dishonorable or some such thing.

I meant the words 'most honorable' in the sense that God would "most honor" that which He considered to be "most honoring" to Him.

I do not believe that God is at all impressed with women who are trying to climb the corporate ladder to obtain power and wealth; however, when women choose the life that He prescribes in the Bible, I believe He is much more inclined to 'bless' and 'honor' those women in special ways.

I am not saying that it is necessarily "against God" for a woman to choose a path that is not entirely or exactly as spelled out in the Bible - because, He understands the necessity in certain things that we have to deal with in this evil world. However, what I am saying is that - for those women who dare to choose a path that is very close to that which is spelled out in the Bible - I believe that He is more inclined to bless and honor those women.

Would be untrue and kinda rude, considering that you are neither...
For just a moment - consider - what if it is-or-were true? ("in God's eyes") Then what? Would you be quick to tell Him that His truth is 'rude'?

(People do it every day - some have used much worse words to describe what they believe is a "miscarriage of justice" by Him in His truth.)

It behooves us all to consider wisely each-every-and-all part(s) of His truth - accept it - believe it - live it - preach it - uphold it - not fight it.

Anyways, just food for thought ☕
Of course! :)

Thank you for giving me your perspective on the issue/matter/topic. (You know I place value on it.)

Just be careful not to allow yourself to be too easily offended by the 'food for thought' of other folks... ;)

( Especially, those who you know care about you and think of you as being very special in their life. )

Ma wasn't trying to climb the corporate ladder or after wealth or power when she simply expressed a desire to live in town, so she could have people to talk to!

Besides as it says IN the Bible, that the married care for things of the world, how to please their husbands, while the unmarried care for things of the Lord. So that's in direct contradiction to your claim that women who are wives and mothers are somehow more honorable and pleasing to God than those who are unmarried.

Check out 1 Corinthians 7:32-34 if you don't believe me - its in the Bible.

Caring for husbands can be exhausting! What happens when your husband, like Pa, decides to uproot his family for the what, fifth time? So you have to make new friends every time and always be the new family in whatever area you move to. And then you have to go about your husbands schedule as you are completely dependant and isolated from everyone else, you have no transport and you can't earn any money because you stuck at home, so you can't even go out and buy new clothes or groceries. And your children get sick and there's no doctors or medical care for miles around. Pa wasn't even a capable farmer.

That's not a life thats sounds honorable to God. It just sounds sad and full of unnecessary hardship. Don't romanticise that kind of life, let's face reality here. The wonder of it is through Laura's child's eyes it was an adventure and she glossed over the strain her mother went through, (like wondering where there next meal was going to come from) but it's agreed that she definitely didn't want that kind of hard life when she grew up.

Hi Gary, I wasn't personally offended by what you said at all. I already knew your statement was not Biblical (but you did somewhat retract it, so kudos!) 😎.

My issue with your statement isn't what you believe but rather that you could influence young impressionable women to marry in haste trying to receive God's blessing, all while further alienating those women on here who are older and might actually give you a shot 🤦‍♀️

Tring to stop you from ruining your own chances with the ladies is an uphill battle. I am growing weary. I might need a new hobby. 🤔 😑

consider - what if it is-or-were true? ("in God's eyes") Then what? Would you be quick to tell Him that His truth is 'rude'?......It behooves us all to consider wisely each-every-and-all part(s) of His truth - accept it - believe it - live it - preach it - uphold it - not fight it.

Ok, THAT part was flat-out insulting, though i am not personally offended. I am merely telling you because I have been cursed with optimism towards generally well- meaning buttheads such as yourself 😑. What you said is (by your own admission) NOT clearly stated in the Bible. Therefore cannot be considered a Biblical truth. If it were that would be another matter but we can't just go making things up 🙄.

Anyways, carry on.... I'll just watch from the sidelines 🍿

Tiny house in the backyard?

I've never lived in one, but we did have a Wendy house or play house in the backyard of the church. I didn't see anyone living in it though. Mice perhaps?
