Main problem with 'Turning from sin ' and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, is that it is a lost person who is meant to be turning from sin.

Surely someone can only 'turn from sin' AFTER already being converted?

In todays age of calvies/reformed folks.....One has to be specific.

Acts 16:31....FREELY believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved and THEN we can turn from sin.

The calvies/reformed believe that we are spontaneously regenerated, knowing nothing and believing nothing........And then we can believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.


Sheesh.......as in the days of Noah we are in!

And 90%+ believers today are controlled by the flesh. And the calvie/reformed theory folks PROVE it with about every post.

A. When you asked by what standard the ungodly will be judged I did not need to come up with anything new. The Bible already tells us why people will be judged and the subject of keeping Shabbat is never brought up.

The Messianic good news is that if we REPENT of sin and put our FAITH in Jesus we can be forgiven and inherit eternal life

E. Notice that Jesus does not consign anyone to eternal judgment for not keeping Shabbat or the other laws of the Mosaic covenant.
The text says they will be condemned for NOT OBEYING the GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
His gospel includes REPENTANCE and then putting ones FAITH in the Lord Jesus to save them.
Faith means not only holding the correct belief ABOUT Jesus. It entails something personal: TRUSTING in, putting our CONFIDENCE in RELYING and DEPENDING upon HIM to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

There is temporal judgment on earth and the eternal judgment of hell. Depending on the context you can know which is which in scripture.

If other scripture, Paul's letters tell you works don't convert some one. Then you need to compare that with the scripture you've shown.

My Father did not make a Hell, His Son Jesus Christ will put to death all those that refuse to obey in the Lake of Fire, dead for all eternity.

So, we have many phrases we often use instead of these scriptural words, to talk about getting eternal salvation.

'Turning from sin and making Jesus Lord or your life '

'Committing your life to Christ'

'Asking Jesus into your heart'

Etc..

These aren't actually in scripture..although may be fully supported by scripture.

The key thing is.. how do you know if these kind of scriptures are the same as 'believe on the Lord Jesus Christ'

The problem with such sayings is that they miss the most important point. God saves sinners. If the person is not convicted that they are a sinner (not just that they sin sometimes), they will not see their need of forgiveness for who they are. "Asking Jesus into your heart" is a recipe for false conversions. Lord Jesus will not enter an unclean heart. Potential believers need to realise that they are lost and separated from God by sin. They need to realise that nothing they do can change that. "God be merciful to me, a sinner" is still the cry that God recognises. And when that person cries out, we can show them God's way of forgiveness through Christ.

Jeremiah 31:31-34

Yes I repented of my sins. I could only confess what I knew. The Apostle said that if we walk in the light and sin we can confess that sin to the Father and we will be forgiven and cleansed. It is like ongoing dialysis

So not being a murderer makes up for not being a thief? Being a liar is nullified by not being an Adulterer? That is not how God sees things. We must resist the tendency to become self-appointed score-keepers. When that happens we always end up grading ourselves on a curve. If we remain open to input of the Spirit He will assume the job of convict us of our sins.
