If people want to argue politics I've got zero interest. Election times here are when the country comes out and votes, either for Labour or National or a minor party, and it always ends up the same. One party gets in with a majority and the other 'loses' and if its a change then they just overturn all the initiatives the other party did in the previous term. Because people are self-interested.
Even the politicians are, they are career politicians and not all care about the people, just the ones that give them the most money and votes. Everyone has an agenda.

Not everyone will like whatever party gets in. It's just the way it goes. There is no morals to any of them. And the so called Christian parties are not genuinely interested in the welfare or needs of others anyway. Its just a way to get votes on pet issues that are not relevant to most people.

I think in terms of environmental protection, this is actually in the best interests of EVERYONE in my country who comes to live here, or is born here, because this land is all we have, and its going to provide is all we need to survive, because we can't always rely on trade to see us through. Or where we exploit our mountains as tourist attractions were they can actually blow up and destroy us if they choose. It's only two main islands in the southern part of the Pacific ocean. But for those who live here, it's home while we are on this earth. We have family here. Why would we live anywhere else?

Interesting, I didn't know that about Taranaki. Saw it this last spring on a couple week trip across the North and South islands. Very beautiful place, but only got the chance to see it in passing as it was rainy that day. Two weeks in NZ was barely enough to see what we most wanted to see, and I forsee another trip in the next few years to see even more of New Zealand.
