It's sad! Bonnie Tyler songs were well known and loved. She had an amazing voice for the power ballads that was so popular in the 80s.

Musical artists are mere mortals, but because we can capture sound in recordings, their voices and songs live on.

I'm reading a memoir by Liza Minnelli at the moment. She's in her 80s, maybe no longer performing, but boy she has some stories to tell. Her mother was the famous Judy Garland (tragically died young only 47) and her father was film director Vincent Minnelli (died in his 70s I think) but their films live on.

I mean they died before I was even born, and their films are so long ago, but who doesn't know the Wizard of Oz from their childhood? It was the first movie I ever saw.
And when I finally got to see all the musicals from the 1930s-40s and 50s , (on video, dvd or TCM) it was like wow they do NOT make them like that anymore. They really are wonders, technicolour dreams, and sooo talented.

So far, so unputdownable...I have gotten up to the chapter where Liza Minnelli wed David Gest. That was a horror show and a half.

But it was the 90s and things were just weird then but completely normal for the time.

I mean Michael Jackson! He was like the 'King of Pop' until he wasn't. Every kid loved him. He loved every kid. It was kind of weird but that was the normal for the time. We didn't care that he had plastic surgery or a monkey or lived in his own fantasy land. We thought it was cool to be Bad. He could do anything and we'd forgive him for dangling a baby out the window of a hotel room. He had the moves!

Was everyone on cocaine and painkillers back then?!

I was never into Sweet Valley High or the Babysitters, but there WAS a time when I was trying to read all the Nancy Drew books at my local library.

These old covers were enough to scare me long before I even started reading!!

I remember the summer Bingo reading card (you got free French fries from McDonald's if you filled your card,) and the different squares made you read books in several different categories.

All I wanted to read were these at the time, so boy was I ever annoyed!

S family I know has a library in their den. They have those Nancy Drew books from when the wife was a teenager.
Probably worth a fortune as hard covers now.

Barbies, My Little Ponies, and Pac Man, oh my! I think ya'll have covered everything, I really don't know what to say. Was also a big Garfield fan. Remember watching the specials and my Grandmother having one of those suction cup plushies on her car window. Think she kept it till it turned white. lol

Also stayed outside all day until Mom called my sister and I in for dinner. Banana bicycle seat and handles with streamers. Though we weren't allowed past the stop sign up the street.

Went from Atari to Nintendo and those were always the first things we were grounded from using if we had a bad report card from school. TWO WEEKS without video games? What were we to do? Oh yeah, play outside. :)

I was just thinking a few days ago how much I really miss renting movies.

I used to go to local rental stores (usual Mom'n'Pop shops rather than Blockbuster) and look for interesting covers of lesser-known movies.

I was a big fan of RedBox (renting CD's through the machine) when it was available, too.

Now it's been years since I've kept up with movies, because I'm just too cheap to pay for streaming.

Whether it was spending hours on classic video games, singing along to favorite songs on the radio, collecting trading cards, or watching iconic cartoons and movies, these experiences created lasting nostalgia.
