Well you can get your groceries delivered to your door now. And food..door dash or uber eats.
I'm not sure I trust the deliverers to not sample it on the way...

As for entertainment, it's all right here on CC
 
I have my groceries delivered all the time. I rarely have any problems and when I do they are quickly fixed by the company.
I live in a small city, so whenever I use Instacart I often get the same shoppers. There are 3 individuals that are my regular shoppers. Two of them have been shopping for my groceries for years. One is more recent, but they are all fast, communicate well, bag well, and we have a nice chat while we unload the groceries.
I don't like shopping, so this works well for me.

In our town we have King Soopers (Kroger), Albertsons (Safeway), and Wal*Mart. I shop at all three. We're going to be getting a Winco at some point; they've purchased the land and have permission to build, I believe. Winco is about the best grocery store I've ever shopped at so I'm looking forward to having one to shop at.

In my travels I've become familiar with Meijer and think highly of that grocery store.

I prefer self checkout and use that method exclusively.

Each week I check the sales ads and buy the things I buy at whichever store has the items at the lowest price. Albertson's produce often leaves a bit to be desired. The produce at Wal*Mart and King Soopers is mostly fresh.

I discovered Winco a few years ago and it was all over!!!

I'm especially vulnerable to their bulk food section... 😭

I mean, they have about every kind of chocolate-covered anything you could want, all in bulk, so I could literally buy a little of almost everything!!!

I'm a goner!!

There's going to be a new New World opening up two suburbs away...I hardly ever shop at New World because the closest one is too far away, but it it pricier than the others...however they sometimes have free giveaways (with purchase)

One year they had 'little gardens' for children, so I managed to score 2 big boxes of them free for the children at school and I didn't have to buy anything!!

Sometimes the Woolworths has tiny play bricks free every time you spend $20, this year they are doing Disney Ooshies, which are like little squishy toys.

interesting. we had here, in new york, Woolworth's department stores founded in 1879 in utica new york. frank woolworth initiated the idea of fixed pricing & open shelves of stock to assist oneself.

Our first supermarket in NZ was called Foodtown

Before that everyone got their groceries from the local Four Square store. No trolleys back then. And they packed them in brown paper bags
 
Went to New World the other day...

Was pretty nice, I bought

cherry tomatoes
ciabatta bread
orange mango probiotic smoothie
creamy blue vein cheese

So it was quite gourmet! They also had an offer for Smeg Knives, if you bought $20 worth, you got stamps, to go toward a set.

Also, went to Taiping, bought

garlic
coriander
spring onions
coconut buns, red bean paste buns, and pineapple bun

we had one in a town near where i grew up. nice little store.

i think it closed in the early 90's, if i remember correctly..

Yea don't know why Woolworths is the name of a department store in the Northern Hemisphere and it's a supermarket in the South.

Some of the malls here are called Westfields...the Westfield family most be rolling in it.

There was a Woolworths in my hometown. They closed in the early 90's if I remember right.
Prior to that they'd been open for decades.

A&P grocery too. Long gone now.

Are there many 'dead malls' in the US?
I heard about them but not sure if they are that common.

There are definitely a lot of dead malls here!

I live in a small city and we have a decent mall that's fairly active. This is probably due to what is in our mall. We have a military recruiting office there, as well as our movie theater, war memorial, an optometrist place, nail salons, hair salons, a bubble tea place, a big sporting goods store, other stores, and a snazzy arcade place. We had an old style arcade place, but it left the mall of a few years ago. Not long ago, a modern arcade place was put in our mall and it seems to be doing well.

While the mall in my city seems to be doing okay, most malls are not doing okay. The mall nearby where I stay in Atlanta is quite dead. If you go in there, you'll think you are in the movie Night of the Comet. And that is how it is with most malls these days.

I think the virtual world had more to do with it. Back in the 80s and 90s, both Hellmart and the malls were bustling.
But, when everything started to be online, the malls became less popular. Now, people can socialize online, shop online, order takeout online, play games online, watch movies online, etc. With people doing so many things online these days, malls just aren't the thing anymore. I haven't been the mall in my city since the fall of 2017, when I took myself out to a movie.
