As a young Christian when I started Bible college?
I did not know any better.
I thought the pastor's job was to exegete the old English of the KJV so I could finally understand it.
The old English allows for way too much subjective and erroneous thinking.
Any uneducated fool can fake teaching from it without much fear of someone knowing he made an error.
IMHO.....
I grew up on the KJ so I am very familiar with it. Then it was the NIV which so many turned to. I use the ESV now.
There are some KJV threads in the forum wherein people declare that version is as inspired as the original authors were inspired by God Himself. I mean, what do you do with that? You almost have to pinch yourself to make sure you were awake when you read such a statement.
I understand that the ESV pulls from the earliest manuscipts including those found at Qumran; the dead sea scrolls. Too many people think the Bible is their personal authority for hitting others over the head with it. I was taught to try to think independantly so I tend to appreciate teaching that reflects on the historicity of the original writers and how they thought of the world around them which, I find, gives a much better understanding of what is written.
I never actually knew about Calvinism until I learned about it here.
