Since the Perseid meteor shower is peaking this week, it got me to wondering who here enjoys watching the night sky?

I have long enjoyed the night sky. Watching meteor showers, moon gazing, looking for planets and constellations, waiting patiently for eclipses, and marveling at the beautiful Milky Way. Growing up in the country, I often marveled as I gazed up at the Milky Way. It's amazing how brilliant the Milky Way looks and how the night sky looks in general when you are far from the city lights!

I love sky watching. Unfortunately,whenever there's an awesome event,like a meteor shower, it is without fail overcast, storming, something that blocks the view.

I figure,if there ever comes a day when it's nuclear mushroom cloud end of the world time,that's when the sky will be crystal clear and the view perfect.

It's disappointing when there's weather during a celestial event!
It's been clear skies here. Nothing pouring down buy sunshine and heat. I plan to be outside after midnight, watching the Perseids peak.

The perseids are supposed to peak over the next couple of nights. My favorite part of the sky is now in view in the early morning.

For many years, I have felt that the constellations tell the biblical story.

Orion is now in view with Taurus, Canis Major, Pleiades, The great square of Pegasus in the mornings.

With the "High Holidays" approaching, what if...
Orion is the sign of the High Priest?
Taurus is the young bull offered at Yom Kippur?
Canis Major is one of the Goat offerings?
What if the great square of Pegasus is actually the four horns of the altar?

These are just some of the things I think about as I look at the night sky.

I have also pondered whether the constellations tell a story. The Lord is all power, why wouldn't/couldn't He have told a story in the sky?

As the years go by and we learn more and more about space, the more amazing it is to think about the Lord's power and creativity.
Looking at the night sky, I think about this and the vastness of space. It leaves me in awe.

Definitely! It's hard to not be thankful and reverent when gazing at the wondrous night sky.

I also love to read books concerning this topic (especially by Dr. Lisle). The more I learn, the more in awe I am.

I love the moon and stars... Almost more than regular sunlight.

But I've often thought of the Bible saying that in heaven, God's light will be more than an enough, and apparently there won't be a need for a sun, moon, and stars?

As a lifelong early bird, I tend to see the daylight a whole lot more than the night lights...

So every time I see them, I try to contemplate that it might be the last time I get to see them.

I'm sure God's glory will be magnificent, but I've often wondered if, even in heaven, I will miss the moon and stars.

Of course I know being present with God will be more than worth it, but I just wonder if I'll ever still long for a few leftover remnants of God's creation in this world.

I also love seeing the moon and stars probably more than sunlight. This might be why I'm a night owl

And I agree that being with the Lord will be worth it, and definitely more than anything we have in this fallen world.

It's my personal belief that there will be a new heavens, due to Isaiah 65:17 and Isaiah 66:22, as well as Rev. 21:1.

I even hope/expect to explore it! I've no doubt it'll leave the gazer/explorer in even more wonder.

I grew up watching Star Trek and wanted to be an astronaut, but I was a very young and didn't realize that I wouldn't be actually going into space and "exploring strange new worlds." So, here I stay on Earth

I garden by the moon

My dad is an amateur astronomer, he's always stargazing.

He says there's going to be a solar eclipse in the UK today/tonight and he's going to watch it live on the you-tube, if it doesn't rain or cloud up.

I once saw the southern Lights that I'd never seen before from my brother's backyard.

And of course during winter we now celebrate Matariki. Its Maori New Year, and it begins when you can see the cluster of Pleiades ( or Seven Sisters) rise in the dawn. Although they said there are now 9 named stars in this constellation.

I remember when Pluto was a planet, and then it got demoted. lol

Of course, everything is upside down in the Southern Hemisphere. Our NZ flag has the Southern Cross on it. If you can see that, you know where you are, also Orion and Sirius are the other prominent stars. Venus is known as the morning star, even though its a planet, it's so bright you can see it during the day.

Yes, I see Venus all the time. I never get tired of seeing it. Very bright and hard to miss. Besides Venus, I also see Jupiter.
Orion travels by my door during the cold months. I open the door at night and there is Orion, big and bright.

I missed it again this year...
I used to ask friends if they wanted to watch the major Perseid shower with me.
As long as you have a clear night and away from city lights, you can find a clearing big enough to see the sky open up.
Then you didn't know where to watch the sky, but most came from one direction and sometimes shoot from one horizon to the next.
The big ones sometimes left a long trail.
I'm sorry that I missed it.
It's nice that you got to enjoy it.

I don't sky watch that much, but I did off and on when I was younger. I'll never forget the first time I saw Orion. It was just above the horizon and was very big.

If you get a chance, look at it with a telescope... It's amazing!!!

This evening at about 7pm (UK time) we will have a partial eclipse of the sun. The moon will cover about 96% of the sun where I am in Devon, and the weather forecast is good.
