We have a store called Pagani in nz and it sell's women's clothing, which I suppose is pagan...there are no christian bonnets and the clothing isn't cotton quilting or pintucks. It's kind of more evening wear.

Australia does have a clothing store called Witchery and that sells witches clothing like black dresses and skirts.

I have bought a blazer from Pagani, and I do have a witchery skirt (but it's green) so, Maybe I am one as well as Christian. I mean, can you not be both at the same time?

Also, sometimes I do go out at night and its not the done thing to wear day clothes during the night. You are expected to dress up for some strange reason. But then what about pyjamas?

Now how about them Barbarians. How do they dress? I am supposing ripped and torn jeans, and maybe togas because you said Barbarian beds only have one blanket or do you mean a sheet. That extra sheet may have been stolen for uses as a toga rather than the blankets. A true Scotsman wears a picnic blanket.

Girls that should have been boys, daughters when the parents wanted sons...the story of a lot of chinese families. In China, there used to be a 'one child' policy (which has been revoked now) because the CCP took measures to curb the population, which had grown exponentially after the Cultural Revolution.

Its traditional for sons to inherit, and daughters to be married out. Those who remain unmarried, are called 'leftover women'. But the CCP recognises their economic power as workers, and there is a phrase that goes 'women hold up half the sky'

I wasn't a product of this Cultural Revolution...diaspora/refugees from Hong Kong managed to bypass it. But I was always acutely aware of the tradition that sons are more valued than daughters, and it has been that way for thousands of years. It is even in the Bible with the Jewish people.

In China girls are aborted or abandoned in favour of sons. That is why there are a lot of orphaned chinese girls and international adoption. It is similar to Korea but not quite...poverty is also a factor, but it used to be that rural families had many children because they needed help in the village rice paddies. Urbanisation has now affected the population, even around the world, couple simply cannot afford to have more than 2-3 children. The suburbs or American dream was to have on average 2.5 children because a typical suburban home had 3 bedrooms.

So, yes there are lot of unwanted children in the world. I think those who are Christian and grew up with 'godly' parents and raised in church, tend to forget this, and assume everyone lives the way they do. Or they bludgeon people with. their middle class values and think their wealth sort of makes them superior to everyone else. It just comes across as smug. I mean they can't help it, but not everyone had the privelige to be raised as they were. Not everyone has a church to go to or somewhere to belong.

As for gangsters, well yea what type of gangster depends on where you live, I mean, according to some people, gangsters are people who wear ties and suits, and are sopranos lol. Really? They've never lived in the 'hood.

What I remember most about China's One-Child Policy is that there were so many unwanted Chinese girls, my adoption agency, Holt International, originally required prospective adoptive parents to be Christian married couples.

However, due to the crisis of so many Chinese girls needing homes, they sent out letters of exception, temporarily welcoming applications from those prospective single parents to find families who would love and accept these girls as their own.

I was here in CC live chat a few months ago and a speaker on the mic was talking about how much he disliked China and how, in his view, China was trying to infect the rest of the world with their politics.

I brought up the issue of the One Child Policy and how it has backfired for China spectacularly. The latest Google search says there are around 30-35 million more Chinese men than women, creating such a seismic shift in demographics that brides are being imported from other countries.

Google also says that while Christianity isn't technically illegal in China, it is heavily regulated.

What if the brides China takes in from other countries are secretly, or not so secretly, Christians? What if this womanless generation finds themselves with Christian wives who refuse to give up their faith, then go on to teach their own children about the Lord?

What if this could produce a "Reverse Solomon Effect"? Solomon was led to idolatry through his many wives -- maybe many of China's families will be led to Christ through these foreign wives. I would guess that the political landscape in China might be very different in 20 years when "outsider" women have raised the next generation of Chinese children.

It's probably just wishful thinking, but it's amazing to see how God works.

I've been reading stories of homosexual couples who adopt children -- children that later become Christians -- and grow up to confront their own parents about their sins.

I can't help but think of God breaking down strongholds like alternative lifestyles -- and even communist governments -- all through things such as a wife from another country, or an adopted child.

I think the preferred term is 'unbeliever' but that doesn't stop people having other beliefs i.e belief in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.

I don't know if it was released in the US, but it was very popular in the UK. There was some controversy with the author though. I always thought he was a Roald Dahl knock-off. I have read this book though, and it's one of his better ones. Sorry it's not Biblical

Not sure if this would work Seoulsearch. the brides would need to learn how to speak Chinese, and its not a language thats offered or spoken in most other countries except by the Chinese. Even though Christian missionaries have tried, even they fell back to English so, sometimes the ideal or missionary dating doesn't pan out like you'd think it would.

There is a big underground church in China, believers need to gather in secret. Also any foreigners would need to adjust to the Chinese way of life, but as far as I know, those looking for husbands on CC don't consider moving to another country and certainly those from the US don't. It will probably be too much of a culture shock for them, but a lot of ESL do teachers go to China (and Korea)

In English speaking countries those who want to learn english are ESOL English for Speakers of Other Languages.

But I have noted that, for some English Language Partners trying to teach English, they don't bother to learn the other speakers language so its difficult for them, but I know of one (English) lady who volunteers to do this but doesn't make much headway because. she doesn't know a word of Afghani (her student/learner is from Aghanistan) and doesn't care to learn or have any cultural exchange. I'm a bit shocked by this attitude.

I can understand and appreciate that there are tons of challenges.

But in some cases, I would guess that wives would also be trafficked into the country rather than deciding to go there on their own.

Of course, this happens in all countries, but I wasn't exactly expecting a place like China to just put out polite ads asking for women to come over and marry their men.

For some reason, this time of year (fall) I'm always a little more introspective and melancholy. Been like that since I was a kid.

I've known several people who are very into Korean dramas!

This was the first time I'd heard that they have a lot of stories centered on orphans, so your post was interesting.
