I love your giving heart @Churchgoer.

You and others here are always talking about how we can all help, serve, and give to other people.

Your attitude is always very inspiring. 💖

Thank you for being here!

(To be honest, if there weren't people here like you, I would have given up and left a long time ago.)

Also I gladly accept help too. Such as car shopping, we all know most women need a guy to help negotiate, checking....

So yesterday
Today I am going to gym zumba dance. Strengthen existing friendship, explore new friendship.

Seem these days gym is the new place to meet people.

That's awesome!!!

Goodness, they'd probably throw me out for not having any coordination...

But it sure does sound like fun!

I remember when Zumba first hit the scene!

Well it all happened yesterday but I was referred to Dress For Success and now have an entire new wardrobe capsule so I can get ready for job interviews!

Two ladies helped me with outfits and now I have new clothes I have 2 coats, jackets couple of blouses, trousers, a black skirt, and two pairs of shoes. Even a handbag with some makeup in it.

Now my sister can't complain I don't have anything smart to wear.

Also...it was all free!!

When I got to that point my mom instituted quiet times, I didn't have to sleep but I had to be in my room doing something low key and winding down

Yesterday, I finally went to check out the Quilting Group.

Now, setting the scene here -- this was at a conservative Lutheran Church, and there's a reason why such churches (and synods in general,) are known as Heaven's Gate. I go to the early service, and it's full of walkers and oxygen tanks, but I know this is where God has me for now -- and may He bless them all.

I'm guessing the median age of the quilting group is around 80, if not older.

But it was a LOVELY group of beautiful, spry, sometimes feisty older ladies who were VERY excited to see someone "young" interested in their work. They toil all year to produce all kinds of beautiful quilts that get sold (for donations to the church) or shipped to various charities. Naturally, my favorites were the baby quilts, but I also loved the Christmas quilts for their bright, cheery colors. One lady said they've had requests for military quilts, so I'll be excited to see the designs for those.

All the quilts had been draped across the pews in the sanctuary for the annual Quilt Sale. All the sales had been made, so our first task was to collect and fold all the leftover quilts.

I don't know if it's like this in every Lutheran church, but every one I've been to has a second floor balcony level in their sanctuary. I went to this top floor with two other ladies to gather any quilts left there, and you know how, when you're around more vulnerable people, your protective instinct instantly kicks in.

It was making me nervous watching these older ladies carrying stacks of quilts down all those stairs, but of course, it's not like actually they needed my help. I just tried to grab as many on that top level as fast as I could to try to spare them any extra trips up and down those stairs. I didn't want anyone falling or breaking a hip on my watch!!

Next, I was invited to help some of the ladies finish off a quilt by tying the layers together. Most were using a curved needle, which I've seen (they're used in upholstery or sewing around things like the arms of chairs and sofas,) but I'd never used one.

Unfortunately, I couldn't quite get the hang of out, but found out it was just another instance where I happen to zig when life zags.

Unfortunately, I couldn't quite get the hang of out, but found out it was just another instance where I happen to zig when life zags.

So it turned out that no matter how hard I tried, I was very slow with the curved needle, which I didn't like at all. Fortunately for me, there was one sweet lady who mentioned that she uses a regular straight needle.

Ah!!! Now that I can do.

And so, I picked myself out a good old-fashioned, straight-as-an-arrow needle and started stitching and tying away. It got to where we'd finished tying all the outer squares, but had a hard time reaching the ones in the middle, as this was one of the larger quilts. (And this is the ONLY kind of group in which my 5-foot self would be considered one of the "tall" people.)

The ladies said they relied on one of the group's leaders to reach the middle squares, as she's much taller than anyone else there, but she was already being pulled in 3 other directions.

And so, I came up with a system where I would stretch to reach, then poke the needle down into the middle of a middle square -- then crawl underneath the tables it was propped up between, find the needle, then pull it down and push it back up to make a stitch for the next tie.

The ladies seemed to get an absolute hoot out of watching me go back and forth and crawling under the table, with one commenting, "I'm glad you're doing it -- because if ANY of US got down on the floor, we are NOT going to make it back up!!"

That had me -- and everyone else laughing, and it was a GREAT achievement to see that we were able to finish tying every single square on that quilt!!

It was actually a lot of fun... and I loved that I could help make them laugh.

I have to confess to looking forward to seeing what we might get accomplished next week. :D

There are many different ways to finish a quilt, but little ties like this are what we used yesterday. :)

Maybe He doesn't want your heart getting broken again?
Oooooh... yeah that's a good point!

seoul you're often speculating whether married people ever think about when they will be single again. Do YOU want to go through that? Say you find the perfect guy - you'll spend the rest of your life anticipating either living after he dies or dying knowing you will be leaving him alone.

And then after all that dreading... It will happen. You really want to deal with that?

I have often contemplated that.

Admittedly, I used to be very co-dependent.

My then-husband leaving pretty much broke me of that in the worst way possible. But because of the way God seems to have designed my life -- all my friends living thousands of miles away, having to rely only on written communication, and being single for about 25 years now -- I got to point where I thought, if God had prepped anyone to be alone once again, it was me.

(Yeah, I know that probably seems a bit haughty, but it was more like me trying to "see the good" God was working in the extreme isolation of my life.)

It's that age-old question: "Is it better to have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all?"

I would imagine the answer is different for different people, and only God knows the answer for each of us.

You're both (you and Lanolin) asking excellent questions.

Maybe part of me is fearing what God's answer really is.

I have to accept it either way -- it's just hard not to be nervous along the way.
