My dad got given 2 chilly bins of frozen food when my mum was dying. I wasn't sure what to do with them because I'd never eaten frozen food before but it seems according to the instructions on the packets you just bunged them in the microwave and hit 'start'

With the plastic wrappers still on!

They swelled up like balloons but the instructions said that would happen.

They had different things in plastic containers like roast, or mac and cheese, or shepherds pie, or curry rice, there was even a chocolate pudding.

My dad thought they were delicious. I was scared of the plastic going in the food. But I survived.

Since the church I'm attending has many elderly, one of their programs is for those volunteering to provide meals for those who can't prepare their own food, or families going through grief and hardships.

I've been thinking of signing up.

I'm terrible at cooking, but even I could at least conjure up a tater tot casserole.

Ever since @Lynx and @CarriePie were talking about a few deluxe versions in another thread, I've been curious to try it.

You could be the delivery gal if you can't cook.
It's called 'Meals on Wheels' here.
Have you got wheels?

I've just joined the Quilting Group... (Description of said meeting coming up soon!)

I'm just getting my toes wet as far as getting more involved in the church.

So far I've only participated in small, one-day or limited-run volunteer activities.

There was a time when I was at church so much, I just burned out, so now I'm slowly getting back into it...

I've still got my training wheels on. :)

Three thoughts:

My dad is a coffee nerd the way I am a computer nerd. He strongly disagrees with you about nespresso. But if you ever see any lavazza, try it. They do whole bean, pre ground and little pods.

About nuking food, banquet pot pies are not very good. Go with Marie callender. But banquet does make a sausage gravy pot pie with a biscuit crust that my father really likes. Like, he makes me get 16 at a time to chunk in the freezer.

And about traveling light...
Yeah, my pot pies are always Marie Callendar.

What happens if it's ice cream?
Nah, I'm not about to nuke a carton of Ben & Jerry's. OK, I do indeed look to see what there is to grab. At this moment I am micro-waving Stouffer's stuffed green peppers. Takes a total of 15 minutes. When done I am going to nuke a container of Minute Rice. Don't know about what to have for dinner.

Tourist I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for all your sweet posts uplifting your wife instead of tearing her down, it has been so encouraging to see. I'm thankful that you two were able to brighten each other's lives for over a decade. Thank you for your kindness towards us singles, and please know that we are praying for you 🙏🖤
God bless you for your prayers and consideration my friend.

Not sure what your location is but if you click on it you can order pizza here. Maybe do it for dinner?

@tourist,

One of the reasons I've always looked up to you as one of the absolute pillars here in the Singles Forum is because even when you got married, you always maintained an attitude of, "Hey, I'm just one of you, trying to figure out life as I go along."

I often think of your catchphrase, "It's not so bad if you think about it," when I'm having a hard day myself.

I look to you by default whenever we've had people over the years try to establish themselves as having something to teach, because unlike so many who have come and gone over the years, you've never lost your humility. And you've had the experience of fulfilling God's "'Til death do you part," not once but twice.

You never set yourself up as being better than any of us, and you never talked down to us. You never tried to tell us what we were all doing wrong, or what we needed to change.

You spoke with joy about your wife and married life, but you never came across as trying to make us feel lesser if we were still single. You never insisted that we get married, just encouraged us all to follow our own walk with God, whether single or married.

I'm going to miss JesusLives jokingly egging on @Lynx by saying she was going to set him up with her daughter, lol!! 😆

Thank you, and ALL our married friends, who share their lives with us but don't look at or talk down to us.

We appreciate your friendship.

@tourist, no matter what happens, we are still praying and cheering you on. 💖
You are a dear friend to me.

This is an interesting thought.

Does anyone eat at Pizza Hut anymore? I haven't in years. They used to have good pizza, but over time, not so much?

Come to think of it, I don't know if I've even SEEN a Pizza Hut in years, but I haven't been looking for them, either.

It looks like Americano is your pizza, but ask for green peppers and onions instead of olives.

Or you could try Dominoes.

Pizza Hut here is now delivery/takeaway only but there used to be an actual pizza hut restaurant up the road from me. We now have Sals Pizza or La Porchetta where you can eat in. But Pizza Hut was the OG pizza in NZ.

hmm can't see the Pizza menu on Dominoes but they also deliver in Tennessee

Random serious thoughts...

(Sorry, I'm about to ramble for a few... Please feel free to skip.)

I'm always more introspective and melancholy in the fall. I don't know why, but I've always been that way. Even when I lived in places where the sun shined all the time, every August, my inner mechanism retreats and hashes things out with God. (As if I'm not already doing that year-around...) But it's especially turbulent in the fall.

For whatever reason, I'd been going for a long time feeling ok with being single, but over the last few months, it was really bothering me. And so I started... complaining to God.

Not my best work, I know.

Last week, I was waking up, and I know He was giving me a very clear answer: "Be Content With What I've Given You."

I don't know what all that entails. (Should I just not seek someone? Do I have to say no if someone tried to ask me out? What about a different job, location, or place in life?) I'm not sure yet.

But I do know that He was also saying, as He did once when Moses tried to argue with Him, "Speak to Me no more about this," (at least not for now.)

And so, I've been quietly reflecting on where God is leading me next in my time of singleness -- even if it's permanent.

But it's not like God hasn't provided for me in other ways, and I certainly can't complain (much as I try) too much about my current state.

In another thread, there was a whole discussion about hearing from God.

People are always saying they want to hear from God. But would they really want to?

I'm guessing what they really want is for God Himself to tell them all the amazing things we tell people when we're trying to witness to them, like, "God has a wonderful plan for your life!" They want God to tell them they're going to land the perfect job, spouse, house, have the perfect family, and make it to their dream destination.

I'm guessing most people would not accept God telling them, "My plan is for you is to be alone," if in fact, that's what His plan may be.

In my own experience, God never tells me the sweet, syrupy things that the world or even Christianity usually tells me about God.

Rather, He often tells me hardcore things I don't want to accept, and at first, I try to fight Him. But then I just give up because I know I have no choice but to accept what He says. I know He loves me, but He often chooses to give me tough love, and maybe it's because of my own nature.

And, this could be just me. Maybe He's much softer with most other people.

I've often wondered if God longs to speak more often, to more people -- and wonder if He either tries, but most won't listen because He'll tell them things they don't want to hear -- or if He's choosing not to speak because He's gotten so used to having His Words rejected.

"I wish God would speak to me!" I've often heard people say.

But would they really want Him to if they actually knew what He was going to say?

I often think of Hananiah, the "prophet" who, in front of the priests and people, broke off a wooden yoke from Jeremiah, saying this was how God was going to break the people free from the King of Babylon. (Jeremiah 28:10)

Naturally, this "Word from God" was celebrated.

But Jeremiah later called Hananiah out, saying God was actually replacing the yoke of wood with a yoke of iron, and because he had preached rebellion against God (by way of what the people wanted to hear,) Hananiah died two months later.

And then there was Jeremiah.

Jeremiah, the true prophet of God, the one God told outright that the people would smile at him, but be plotting his death behind his back.

Jeremiah, the one whom God plainly told that the people wouldn't listen to, but commanded him to preach His message anyway -- and for his obedience, Jeremiah was cast into a pit.

And so I think of this often.

Am I really willing to hear God speak?

And how far am I willing to go in order to obey -- even when it goes against everything I'm hoping for?

Maybe He doesn't want your heart getting broken again?

And also He's given you a lot more already, a cozy home where you can just be yourself without anyone bossing you around, lots of friends on CC, family who love you, interesting food to eat...

Plus while Jeremiah was thrown into the pit, his friend stood up for him and got him out!

Excellent points, Lanolin.

This forum, and the people here, are one of the many things I have to be thankful for. 🙏🏼

(I also really enjoy when you post about Hello Kitty and friends. It always makes me smile, because no one else I know likes Hello Kitty!)

Thank you! 💖

I know it must be challenging for you too, looking after your Dad, but you're doing a fantastic job. 💐

Your family is very blessed to have you.
