I have an observation after reading the other posts.......

God sent more than the 10 Commandments he also sent over 600 others. By this I am not saying you have to follow them but has anyone ever looked at how effective they are, like for instance.

1. I do not eat pork because God said not to but I have done a lot of research into it and have found that Pork and Seafood are not the best types of food to be consuming.

2. Mixing of threads.....Now this is not something that I do but I have looked into some research on asthma and skin allergies.

Just a question but maybe I should start a new thread.

Shalom/Blessings

God gave us commandments for various reasons. some are for our spiritual health and some for our physical well-being.

however Jesus taught us that God says "i would have mercy not sacrifice" we should recognize the mercy and love in following God's commandments and not think them a sacrifice and burden to enslave us to a law that can not be meet but a mercy that warns us of things that can harm us. Like a parent saying do not put your hand in the fire.

1 Samuel 15:22
(22) And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Saying the Lord is our Sabbath is not an out from keeping Sabbath, because that verse is a quote from Torah, Lev. 23:3. So that won't work. Shalom

The Sabbath is a sign of 3 things, creation, redemption and sanctification

Creation
Exodus 20:11
(11) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 31:17
(17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Redemption
Deuteronomy 5:15
(15) And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

Sanctification
Ezekiel 20:12
(12) Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

What saves us from the curse of the Law?

2Corinthians 3
3Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

4And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

You don't see because you cannot see. It is quite amazing to watch in action. You put your hands over your eyes and you put your hands over your ears, but it is right in front of you waiting. I have high hopes for you Avinu.

May the Lord Jesus Christ Richly Bless You

Notice the verse you quoted 2 Corinthians 3:3 says the Law is written upon the heart. It is the same Law, but instead of being written upon stone it is now written upon the heart

Notice also it says we are not sufficient of ourselves but our sufficiency is of God.

Notice also that it says the Letter Kills but the Spirit Gives Life.

Notice also that it calls the Law the Ministration of Death and the Ministration of Condemnation.

Notice also that the Ministration of the Spirit is the Ministration of Righteousness.

Notice also that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.

The Sabbath is a sign of creation, redemption and sanctification
Creation
Exodus 31:16-17
(16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
(17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Redemption
Deuteronomy 5:15

Sanctification
Ezekiel 20:12
(12) Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

So because the Sabbath is a sign of these then the Sabbath teaches us that for re-creation (In Christ), redemption & sanctification we are to cease from our own work and rest in His

Paul speaks to Gentiles who were accustomed to the eight-day week known as the nundinal cycle starting with Nundinae or Market Day. The book of Romans was finished in 58AD and Constantine established the seven-day week in 321AD.
In the Septuagint, the word “koinos—common” which is used at Romans 14:14 to designate “unclean” food. This term is different from the word “akathartos—impure, unclean” used in Leviticus 11 designating unlawful food. This would mean that the dispute was not over meat which was unlawful according to the Mosaic Law, but about meat which was lawful to eat but because of its association with idol worship was
regarded by some as “koinos—common,” and to be avoided by Christians. Also, you never find the word Sabbath in the entire chapter.

Is Paul suggesting refraining from idol worship (lunar days) and meats sacrificed to idols food and drink)?
Thank you for that input. I would lean towards the view that Romans 14 mainly deals with fasting or not fasting. The "common" meats was not an issue, the (clean) meats sold at the markets were not offered to idols and those could be bought with no guilt.

I have completely different view on what people have to say here in this thread but that starts with understanding what is a sabbath and why was it commanded to be kept. Because doing something without understanding is useless.

Psalms 32:9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
Psalms 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Psalms 119:125 I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.
Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

The law kept with understanding is acceptable unto God because he will love to keep it.

So please explain to me what is the sabbath and why should it be kept in the New Testament so that I might understand it.

Blessings to all of you.

In its simplicity , The Sabbath/Rest is The Lords Prayer.

It was taught to us because Christ said that The Father must be worshipped in spirit and in truth; and that because WE don't even KNOW what it IS that WE should pray for, here is a framework of prayer to begin with, that IS truth.

It IS a daily prayer that washes ones spirit of ALL the minor sin that WE ALL encounter daily, and NOW, more of it than ever before.

Most of these sins are from unavoidable observation, or succubming to an over indulgance of physical pleasure.

These are things that Our Father really doesn't want to be pestered about in prayer, other than that you should KNOW that it is YOUR duty to cleanse yourself, daily.

It IS the major sins that Our Father wants to hear from you about, and the LESS He hears from you, the better off you will be; and this IS concerning the sin that comes out of our mouths/churchs.

It is when we find ourselves guilty of judging, condeming, prejudising, or in general, hurting one of HIS children spiritually with words.

This IS when you NEED a little more than a cleasning, and you first cleanse yourself the same way, The Lords Prayer, and then be sure that you have set aside enough free uninterupted time, to repent your sin before Him, Our Father, let Him know that you Love Him and then just sit quiet.

CHRIST IS OUR SABBATH EVERYDAY.

Forever in Christ :)

Thanks for the reply.

I still don't understand how could Sabbath be the Lord's prayer. Is it there in the Bible? I don't see the rest is the Lord's prayer. We will rest from all our works when we go to the Lord in heaven, that means the Lord would be still praying for us or how? I am sorry, I don't understand.
