Love you too, El! I know this has been a very difficult year for you and your family. You truly have my heart and prayers!

I have learned that we often think we are helping with a situation when we actually may be making it worse by keeping it front and center. Wounds don't heal as they should if we continue to pick the scabs. Infection and festering may follow, and unnecessary scar tissue may develop. Perhaps this is God's example of teaching us a deeper truth.

I have learned that the wounds we pick often have to be cauterized. I haven't done so yet with a couple of mine. But I plan to.

I have learned that when a relationship is right, it will stand the test of time. We DO get second chances. I nearly lost a priceless relationship because of my fear that it was a rebound and my impatience. I’m so glad that he and God are smarter than I am and far more patient.

I have learned that it pleases God more when I befriend those who really NEED a friend. There are so many lonely, hurting people in the world.

[Pssst….Ritter, speaking of intellectual snobbery, I bought a copy of Ron Howard’s production of Nixon Frost. Have you seen it? Did I throw my money away? Hope to watch it sometime this week…]

I have learned there are some people who will stop at nothing to annoy you. That some people also never accept that they are wrong..and just like Nod said, no matter how bad a situation is, it can get very very worse!!. (Guess we have that in common Nod). I also learned it's possible to buy 3 different laptop chargers in a year, i also learned that internet can be very very boring..and my laptop can be pretty annoying sometimes.. I also learned that no matter how much your step mum is, she can really be a monster (all step mums are horrible :p)..

I also learned that i can be rude to my elders when i really have to (not a good thing to learn ugh), i also learned that there is no point trying to be what you're not.. I also learned a lot of things that i can't remember so...

Bye :D

2011 has been the worst year of my life ever. I lost my oldest son in February. I am, however, striving to stay close to God who is helping me to go on with my life without him. It is so tough. Without God, I wouldn't be here today.

Brigitte.. im praying for you! So sorry to hear about the loss of your son..

I totally remembered some great things that I learned in 2011

-How to change out a trach in an emergency situation without any previous or formal medical training.
-That emergency situations can and do happen, unfortunately.
-How to tune out half a dozen children, the tv, and the vitamix to talk to God.
-I did not learn how to use a salt water pool filter. Fail.
-That everything is better when it's made from scratch and whole foods. Yum!
-That God created our bodies so perfectly and with the ability to heal themselves and He gave us the tools necessary to help our bodies do it.
-I learned how to look at a person's heart and not just listen to the way their words come across to me.
-That people aren't always looking down on me.
-Working out and being healthy makes me happy. :D
-That raising a child up in the way she should go is the scariest and greatest adventure I've ever known!

No, sweetheart, they are most certainly not. :) God certainly is not. And your precious little one is most certainly not. She is looking UP to you. This is what you must always keep in mind. :)

I also own Frost Nixon. You didn't throw your money away, as the movie itself is pretty entertaining and thought-provoking.

Having read a portion of Conrad Black's 1,000 odd page biography of Nixon, I had plenty of points of disagreement with how both Nixon and the nature of the interview were portrayed.

Things to remember:

1. Nixon didn't drink or smoke.
2. His parents actually loved him.
3. His relentlessness in climbing was fueled largely by the fact that two of his brothers died at a young age, leaving him to carry on the Nixon family name all the more. The notion that the rejection on the part of the Franklins somehow spurred this drive in him is a popular myth.
4. The interview was considered a victory for Nixon, not some great defeat in image as the movie implies. As you will see in the movie, what the nation saw is a very relatable human being before them, not a heartless monster.

The final point is, I think, the most important. Time and mythology, more or less, shroud Nixon in something he wasn't. The reason I personally admire the man isn't because of his policy (I find a lot to disagree with in Nixon), but the kind of man he was. He rose from humble beginnings due to intelligence and drive. He had an intense love and reasonable loyalty toward family. He was also a brilliant political strategist as well (I wish he had become a political operative and not a politician, as his attributes would have made him a legend in my industry).

Above all, he was a man harried by difficult choices. He had the same almost understandable proclivity toward the sin of pride as most of us would were we ever to make it to the Oval Office. It was something I think he struggled with.

The American people saw these things before and especially after the interview. The only individuals thrilled at seeing the broken man on camera were largely leftists who failed to see the deeper meaning behind what they had uncovered because they let their ideological blinders cover up the third, very vital, dimension.

Sadly, the Nixon we see today is just warts and not warts and all. Our retrospective analysis is clouded by a group of people who viewed the interview and the life of Nixon first-hand through the lens of a sort of prolonged adolescence.

Frost v. Nixon is a useful piece of film in that it gives you a glimpse of the humanity that you can juxtapose with the modern spin. And like I said, it's entertaining. Ron Howard always makes a smashing film.
