OOOOOKay!

We'll go by what You wrote and not my what I wrote. Hahaha. You win!

We'll leave my safe and happy world of outright tossing out what Jesus said about Divorce and Adultory and Slavery (i toss them all the time), and deal with them in our modern times.

I won't repeat my comments a third time, that Jesus said a lot of stuff that is meaningless today (or technically, what can't be applied to today's lifestyle), and we'll go to YOUR discussion of . . .

". . . to guard the heart and mind from sinful influences. It corrupts our thinking which inevitably corrupts our actions. This particular example was pointing out that just keeping up appearances (or looking legally/technically like you've done nothing wrong) is not good enough."

I will take on this comment of yours when I get back from my editing our fourth story's cover.

Can't wait! Har.

Sandor

P.S. OF COURSE I WASN'T attempting to comment on your life personally through my example of divorce, for two reasons: I don't believe it translates to today's times - remember!; and we're all God's children and this sin stuff should be left for the Charles Mansons, and not you and me and that cute kid of yours. Nor your ex, either.

I wasn't saying you were commenting on my life personally, Sandor. Sorry if it appeared that way! :)

My main point, however, is that there are basic principles that hold true. Therefore making Jesus' words relevant. :) I'd like for you to respond to that particular point as well, if you have time. :) I would have to again disagree that a world without the principles taught in the Bible is not a very safe or happy one. But we'd probably have to take on one principle at a time to get through all of that.

Looking forward to your reply. :)

I read it a couple of times and understand your use of language. Very cool.

“Guard the heart and mind from sinful influences.”

This makes sense, but I’d personally change it to “Don’t put yourself in a place that would invite danger to your relationship.”

My wife jokes with me all the time that “lookies are freebies”, and it’s simple: she’d rather have me sin in my mind 1,000 times a day, where me and a girl in my imagination do every position in the Karma Sutra, rather than so much as spank another girl’s but lightly in a playful manner.

On my end, I don’t want to know what’s going through her mind when she looks at that Lenny Kravitz video.

See, sin of the mind, if there is such a thing, is between you and God, and no one else.

On your second point, I’m definitely going to keep up appearances, ESPECIALLY after my mind wandered over someone for a moment.

If we were all on a double date, and I liked you, and cared about you, but my male mind took me in a direction for a moment that was lustful, I would, eventually, return to the real world and shut up about it. Even to keep up appearances. That last bit didn’t mean I was being phony, it just means that I would care about our friendship, and your man’s, and wouldn’t find a reason to discuss it.

It would also be unkind, and cruel to my wife.

The irony about what you wrote is that you could have the most Wiccan kindhearted person who secretly couldn’t help thinking wrongful thoughts about every girl who came his way, and a person who attempted to be Christian and pious, who went to bed with everyone who said yes to him.

So much of this is mental.

Sandor

Fire away on the point by point principles. But one at a time, please. I'm not too sharp and need things to be fed slowly to me. And sure, I have the time to play with your notions and turn them into mush. LOL Just messing with you! S.

Thanks for your response. :)

I think you're misunderstanding a key difference that I, admittedly, did not distinguish. I think we can agree that there is a vast difference between a fleeting thought and entertaining that thought. Noticing an attractive woman and having the fleeting lustful thought is one thing, but taking that thought, focusing on it, and letting it grow in your mind is, as you said inviting in trouble.

Sin as a whole is between a person and God. Many sins affect those around us as well, but at its heart its between us and God. That doesn't dismiss them, however. The principles I was referring to earlier are dealing with sin and how it affects our relationship with God (and others).

I wasn't sure that we connected on what you said was my second point. Most people try to keep up appearances. No one lives just talking about everything that comes through their mind or everything they've done (good or bad). That wasn't my point. I'm not sure what I said that gave a wrong impression there. Let me know so I can clarify. My point was that appearances are just that... appearances. What's underneath matters very much. Like a beautiful house that's rotting at its foundation. Sure, it looks good... but isn't that rotting foundation important? LOL

yeah. i understood it from the rotting house analogy.

I agree with you on many of the things you just wrote.Obsessing on anything over and over again is a threat to any relationship. Even obsessing on that partner has perils.

Uh Oh - - - we're starting to agree with one another!

Good, Postwar! Keep fighting! To everyone who posted about having this struggle, remember that you're not alone! God is always with you. Do your every best to choose and go to Him instead of giving in. Keep the line between you and God wide open!

If you have tried and failed...try again! If you don't feel lke you can, rest in God, and let Him be your strength.

I know what it's like, but believe that one day we will be free! Take heart my kindred! Though the storm may grow, Christ shows us where to go.

A lot of people, even born again Christians, wrestle with this. It's pretty universally accepted that it is a sin, but it seems very few people want to come out and admit to it. So for the sake of those who are genuinely trying to get this issue out of their lives, show them they're not alone.

And yes, this poll is very general; it only asks if you've looked at it in the past year. I realize that you can have gotten over your addiction more recently than a year ago, but for the sake of this poll, we'll say a year.

Yes. The topic is pornography (which for most is addictive). Many fight this war of sexual sin their entire lives.

I'm just trying to encourage everyone who posted in this thread, in response to having this addiction, that there is hope, and to keep fighting/clinging to God!

Wow, what a topic. Porn is so easy to find, and everyone has their own definition of porn- soft porn(paperback romance novels, music, even pg-13 movies) hard porn(strait up porn movies, magazines, internet). The other night I was on Hulu looking for a movie to watch, can't remember the movie I started watching, wow, the first minute and a half, I immediately canceled my membership. I don't need that in my life. And if it could be found that easily, they never asked for parental permission or had any warnings. Same with Netflix, I was shocked at how easily it was right there.
There is one guy I dated who is into that kind of stuff, I could feel what it did to him when we were together and how it helped make the decisions in what movies we would watch, or the things we talked about or the things we did. Where as another guy I dated wanted nothing to do with any of that and never ever gave it a chance and how amazing our relationship was, he treated me with so much respect, he really is a gentleman and that is what in my opinion ladies want and need.
I have started putting a lock on my phone and computer where nothing beyond pg pictures(while browsing) or movies(youtube, tv shows, anything) can be shown. So if I were to type in something to do with "personal pleasure"(example only- I tried it to make sure nothing inappropriate would come up) and back and shoulder massagers came up.
I was just reading a church message about a young man who had that addiction and he was saying that he looked at all women differently after spending time watching porn on his computer, he felt so guilty about the way he looked at relationships and life in general. He was depressed all the time. Once he got over that addiction and let God back into his life, he was a whole new person and so much happier.
This probably isn't the answer or response you were looking for. But it's my opinion. I have seen what it does to marriages and have had friends deal with it. I myself have watched it and have read those "smutty" books and magazines, where I am almost 30, I know I don't want to spend the next decade of my life with that guilt weighing on my conscience. So I am making the change in my life to get it out. There are movies, books and magazines and music that is entertaining AND not addictive and sinful. You just have to be careful where you look.
Even if one person here likes and respects my opinion then what I say helps.

Sentenced to die in the electric chair, Ted Bundy requested that his last interview be with Dr. James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family. In that meeting Bundy talked openly about pornography and told Dr. Dobson that his struggles all began there. He explained that all his fellow inmates also had an obsession with pornography before going to prison.

Outstanding response, gardeniahopper. Guys (and girls) need to hear THIS !

God bless you for your willingness to open up and help those that need help with addiction that is truly not just an addiction, or hurts just the mind nor just the heart, it extracts damage to the soul :( Great damage, fleecing damage, uncontrollable damage, but NOT undoable damage. :)

Amen ! PW, you are saying good things that are really great, the Lord leads, God bless you for saying them for all to hear now :) Porn is a killer of ALL !!
))))))))))))))))))))))))))(((((((((((((((((((((((

GOD conquers all, He will get you through, and, IF you do porn, you are opening yourself up to Satan. The Lord leads. Let His power lead you. And, NEVER feel guilty IF you are unable to curb your addiction, whatever it is, porn or otherwise, for that is Satan who WANTS you to feel guilt and start to stress and start to weaken and go back to vomit. Porn is VOMIT !

God wants to GET YOU to innocence, HE long ago SET the captives FREE (you and me :) ) by dying on the cross.

In that time under the Earth, for three days, God wallowed in pain but up from the grave He arose !!! He beat DEATH ! He beat Satan ! The Lord reigns forevermore, as He always has forever since the dawn of time. :)

your nakedness is your business and Gods, you shame yourself by showing it openly, God will put shame on you for showing your nakedness and the same for those who look on intently!!! Sin starts off small, remember that!!, shrug when its small??? But shrug wont work, when its big enough!!!

I realise this reply is late but...

Man made nakedness shameful. God made man naked and they were not ashamed. It was satan and sin who made it shameful not God so why should we be ashamed of showing our weakness?

It's best to raise people not to have shame. However, it's also good to raise them to understand appropriateness.

Jumping in the pool or lake naked when everyone else is doing it is fine. Running around the house the same way when people have come over for Sunday dinner's another matter.

Never mind the fact that it destroys any chance a women has of real LOVE, but makes men think that women sould performing like in the movies. Not fare for a women's perspetive
