A lot of people, even born again Christians, wrestle with this. It's pretty universally accepted that it is a sin, but it seems very few people want to come out and admit to it. So for the sake of those who are genuinely trying to get this issue out of their lives, show them they're not alone.

And yes, this poll is very general; it only asks if you've looked at it in the past year. I realize that you can have gotten over your addiction more recently than a year ago, but for the sake of this poll, we'll say a year.

Porn isn't good for you for one important reason, it is because you look at it with lust and causes adultery in your heart.

Peace

I dont watch porn but I dont think that Im any better than those who do.We all sin.We all struggle with are imperfections. GOD BLESS YOU.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and predict that most people will answer 'yes'. I know it sounds totally crazy, but there I said it!

I'm a girl and voted yes because I have chosen to watch some R-rated movies in the past year that I knew had questionable content (I wasn't necessarily watching them for the questionable content, I just wanted to see those particular films--I consider anything with nudity, rape, or obvious sexual contact to be out of bounds but how many things, even TV, are without those things these days...)

I haven't watched anything rated stricter than R for probably over 10 years, but as far as I'm concerned, it's bad enough. (The last times I caught a glimpse of something really out of bounds were when I went to pick up a friend and, I kid you not, her husband had it right on the TV as I walked in the house... and he acted like it was no big deal. The second time was when I dropped in unexpectedly at my last boyfriend's house about 9 years ago and he had a stack of pictures he'd printed out from the internet, all featuring Asian women. He acted like I should be flattered. I wasn't. I was so angry I would have been happy to watch him drop dead on the spot. And talk about uncomfortable! On a good note, it killed any former interest I might have had in those things.)

How to avoid it all? I'm not sure. I went through a time of only watching educational TV (PBS, cooking shows, etc.) but nowadays even a lot of the chefs swear and say questionable things, so you just can't win!

When I would come in off the road to write reports or with prisoners, the dispatchers and jailers would often be watching it on nightshift. I never really got porn. It falls so far short of a healthy sexual relationship with a spouse. But then, satan has a fake version of everything God intended for good, doesn't he?

It seems that the same guys who have serious issues with porn also have difficulty finding/keeping a girlfriend. Maybe if their focus was more on building RIGHT relationships with women rather than ugly facsimiles thereof, it would help. But I'm a woman. What do I know? *shrugs*

your nakedness is your business and Gods, you shame yourself by showing it openly, God will put shame on you for showing your nakedness and the same for those who look on intently!!! Sin starts off small, remember that!!, shrug when its small??? But shrug wont work, when its big enough!!!

Very interesting, but one has to wonder whether their trouble with porn is the cause or the result of not having a gf.

Ten four, big buddy.

Of couse it could be the other way around. It has been EASIER for me to fight the want to look at it since God has given me the faith that he'll provide with a wife one day...

That was kinda my point, dot. I want to encourage you to fight for and work toward that which is blessed and REAL. :) It was NOT intended as a condemnation at all. :)

James 5:16

16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

I'm not a fan of these particular threads either, but I can't say that dot is not doing what the scriptures say he should...confessing his weaknesses and asking for help. If it takes a number of threads like this for him to overcome, then that's what it takes. From what I've read in this one, it does appear that he is making progress.

Has anyone been PRAYING for dot in this regard? He has done what the scriptures call for him to do..confess. Have we fulfilled our part of it?

The question in my mind is this: How does one make a condemning post like this and 20 minutes later post in another thread that judging others is uncool?

I did pray for Dot the other day while I was running errands... and I pray for him every time I see him write new threads about these issues.

I was just wondering what was being done as far as accountability goes. Dot, I know you frequently say, "I haven't looked at porn in X number of days/weeks/months," but I was also wondering what you're doing to actively seek help with this, because obviously, trying on your own isn't working.

Do you have older Christian adults you could talk to who will keep you accountable? You know you're not the only one--there are others in the church struggling with the same problems and would probably be more than willing to help you out.

Does most of your addiction stem from the computer? I know you need a computer for your work/career path, but how about making sure your computer is in a very public place in the house (I think you said you live with family? Can't remember, sorry...), such as the kitchen or living room, and do not have access to a computer in your own private room. Knowing you can only access a computer around other people might cut down on the temptation.

It's great that you want to be free of this--just tell us more about what you're actively doing to make those changes.

You have a beautiful heart, Miss Kim :)

Hmm I guess there's more to this thread than meets the eye. (scratching head)

I think so too. God kinda opened my eyes to something last night (all week actually), so I'm trying to change my life accordingly. I had some questions about a matter that greatly affected my day-to-day life. A few people were godly and wise enough to understand that and responded in ways that were very helpful, but a couple of others apparently saw my questions as no more than an opportunity to debate, be condescending and sarcastic. I was more than a little taken aback in learning that something that deeply affected a child of God could be looked upon as just another topic in a chatroom. I don't want to see that happen to dot anymore. :)

I think the same happens here sometimes. dot and a couple of others are really wrestling with this issue and there are times when we are impatient with them just because WE don't want to read threads like this or take the time to listen/encourage/pray, no matter how long it might take to help them, you know? It might be repetitious and obnoxious to us, but it's a big deal to them. And if it's life-affecting for them, it's important to God, and, therefore, it should be important to us as well.

I'm talking to myself here, but if this helps someone else too...great! :)

We're with you, dot. Some of us are women and we don't get it sometimes, but that doesn't mean we don't care or don't want to help! Praying for ya! :)
