The entire man is called a living soul
Genesis 2:7

(7) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The spirit (breath of life) returns to God
Job 34:14-15
(14) If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
(15) All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
Psalms 104:29
(29) Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
James 2:26
(26) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

DO BEASTS, AS WELL AS MAN HAVE THE BREATH OF LIFE IN THEIR NOSTRILS?
Genesis 7: 21, 22
Ecclesiastes 3: 19-21
Gen 1:30; Rev 16:3—Also called “living souls.”
Eze. 37: 1-15.

THE SOUL IS THE PART OF MAN THAT SINS AND DIES FOR ITS SIN. IT IS NOT THE SPIRIT AND SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE BREATH OF LIFE FROM GOD.

1 Thess. 5: 23
Eze 18: 4
Matthew 5: 21, 22—Hate is sin. ( 1 John 3: 14)
Matt 5: 27, 28—The lustful look—is sin—in the heart.
Prov. 23: 7—We think in the “heart”—We think with the mind.
James 4: 17—We SIN when we fail to do what we know is right. The knowing part of man—the heart—the mind is the part here called the “soul” therefore the soul is the intelligent part of man.

WHAT HAPPENS AT DEATH ?
Ecclesiastes 12: 7.

THE DUST RETURNS TO THE EARTH AS IT WAS—THE SPIRIT, OR BREATH OF LIFE RETURNS TO GOD WHO GAVE IT.
Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6; Ecclesiastes 9: 10

THE INTELLIGENT PART OF MAN CEASES TO OPERATE. INTELLIGENCE, EMOTION, WILL, ALL FUNCTIONS OF THE MIND, CEASE.
Psalms 146: 3, 4

THE RESURRECTION THE SOUL’S HOPE
Psalms 89: 48.
Psalms 16: 10; Acts 2: 31; Acts 2: 29; Acts 2: 34.
This proves that unless a man is resurrected from the dead, his soul will be left in hell (Hades—the grave).
Luke 23: 46, Isaiah 53: 12; Matt. 10: 28;

CAN THE SOUL BE KILLED?
Matthew 10: 28

Are you comparing the soul of a creature to the soul of a man that was created in the image of God before the fall? I would do some serious thinking about these verses that you have put out there with little explanation as to their meaning and understanding. Man's soul was corrupted by sin, but has the soul of any creature been corrupted and separated from God needing to be reconciled? Don't be so quite to throw scripture out there that you don't understand. The soul of man is not the same as the soul of a creature, except in only one point, God breathed life into them both, PERIOD! You discredit the image that God has made man and have little respect for what God has made, especially the conscience of man that the blood had to purged just so that man could serve the living God (Heb 9:14). Did not our Lord tell us that one soul (of man) is worth and is costly and has more value than all the world. 'What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?' (Mk 8:36,37). The redemption of the soul is precious (Ps 49:8), but you guys don't want to talk about that Psalm, or do you? Why don't you make a thorough study on it and see what you come up with, and do it without your particular bend of the truth.

PS - Sheol is the underworld that goes lower then the grave. Just for your edification, the body of the wicked, when it dies, goes into the grave (six feet under) and the soul of the wicked departs that body and goes into the lower parts of Sheol. The grave, Sheol, has two separate places for the wicked dead, one for the body and one for the soul. The body can't go into the lower part of Sheol for the body is reserved for a time when it will be resurrected from the grave (the dead) and joined to the soul to be judged out of the books that have been recorded and will be cast into the lake of fire, which is the second death (Rev 20:14,15). Read (Rev 20:11-15, especially (v.13) because we have the word 'death' which is 'thanatos' with a special meaning) just for starters. As soon as we take our last BREATH, our soul is no longer joined to the body and the body becomes dead and LIFELESS because the soul is GONE and departed from it.

I certainly don't posess the level of knowledge that you do on this subject but I only can see represented in these verses references to the BODY not the SOUL.

You can't separate the two. The body without soul is dead. Soul cannot exist without a body. It is not a separate entity, a separate part of you that lives on after you die. Soul is simply that which gives life to the body. Nephesh. Men and animals have it.

Dead PEOPLE (body and soul) are asleep and unconscious.

Soul is not what separates men from animals. As it says in Genesis, both men and animals have soul. What separates us is that we are created in the image of God. We have free will. He gave us the ability to think, reason, love, hate (figuratively), express emotion.

Regarding the verses you mention above, soul can also refer to the life of a man. Acts 27:37

Hell, hades, and sheol are simply the grave. As soon as we take our last breath, we are dead.

Dead people are dead, and will be resurrected. A Christian's hope (if he dies before the Lord returns) is in being resurrected to eternal life. Death is not the doorway to eternity, it is an ENEMY.

I certainly don't posess the level of knowledge that you do on this subject but I only can see represented in these verses references to the BODY not the SOUL.

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

I will not go through all of the above but just think about Ecc 9:5 For the living (body or soul) know they (the living body or the living soul) shall die: but the dead (body or soul) know not anything,

Actually the word soul implies the body has life that comes from the spirit from God. Spirit, life from God departs the body dies no longer is there a being, a living soul.

Jesus commended his spirit, the spirit of life from God, unto the hands of his Father. Jesus died at that moment. His body was still hanging on the cross. His soul was then in Hades. About three house later they put his body in the tomb of Joseph. Three days and three nights later God the Father resurrected the soul, Jesus from Hades, neither did his flesh (body) see corruption and came fourth from the tomb
a quickening spirit, flesh and bone man.1 Cor 15:46 Howbeit that not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. Was that speaking of the resurrected Jesus?

For the natural man the life (soul) is in the blood. This Jesus poured out for the sin of the world. He poured out his soul (life blood) unto death.

But flesh with the life (nephesh soul) thereof, [which is] the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Why
Because the flesh is corruptible and the blood (the soul life) is mortal.
One must put on incorruptible body and put on immortality of soul.

Yes, yes, at the CROSS we were forevermore CHANGED ! THE death and resurrection of our Lord changed every thing. Everything!
Praise be to God , my great Hope for my soul (and body) at rest to be raiSED up incorruptible, united with my forever-everliving Spirit given as a gift (of eternal life) when I decided to follow Jesus all the days, all the days of my life, and, I shall dwell in the House of my Lord forever and I will SIT at a table made for me-eee-eee. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days, all the days of my life. AND I SHALL DWELL....

YES, YES, YES, CHRIST'S DYING 1,979 YEARS AGO WAS FOR ME!!!!!

yes, yes, yes, 1 thousand and seventy-nine times, YES!!!,

at the coming of Jesus who will be here very soon. Soon and very soon, WE are going to see the King ! :)

WE!!! NOT JUST ME!! Christ dying was for WEEE , WEE, WEE. Sure, go ahead, feel like the pig in the Geico commercial, going down the mountain on a zip line. WEEEEEEEEEEEE-WEEEEEE-WEEEEE !!!!

THERE IS TRUST IN JESUS ON EARTH BUT THERE IS MORE THAN THAT, FRIENDS, THERE IS HOPE, great hope in our Great Hope, that will , like Paul had the 'confidence' (the faith, folks! :) ) of being out of this corruptible, dead, rotting-away body was to be what? with who?

Our Lord, ALIVE! WITH HIM in Heaven !

We shall surely never die, the moment we Earthly close our eyes forever we shall OPEN them with Christ smiling in our face and all our friends and family and dogs and cats and horses there too. What peace!

And, don't try to understand it, just believe it to be, because God's peace passeth ALL our understanding , that means we can argue how your 30-year old, beloved, Nay's horse Spirit is roaming the meadows of Heaven now since dying back in 1979. And, the 19 billion in Africa dead now are all in Heaven that decided on Jesus the last 1979 year. And, the 34 billion in South America and the , YOU GET THE PICTURE, this is ALL beyond our understanding !!

God bless you, Christ bros. and sis', great peace now :)

NOTE: I did go off the zip-line with all this , I just have the confidence for myself (and you) that our Spirits NEVER sleep once we accept His gift of eternal life and then RECEIVE the Spirit (Holy Ghost) that God puts in us and becomes US . WEEEE-WEEEE-WEEEE :D. I am laughing, but I am serious too, my peeps, dead-serious in WHAT I believe, I AM PERSUADED in my belief that rings true like that great gospel hymn, 'I Know Whom I Have Believed' . Yes, yes, yes, I am persuaded that He is able to SAVE WEEE-WEEE-WEEE from EVER setting our Spirit in the grave. :)

And, I want to make this point ever-clear. When my body dies , my Spirit returns to God, and, not just returns to He who made me, but it returns to He who made me with me in it :)

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord ! We don't need to wait no three days down in hell like Jesus did. Jesus did it , and, beat it. Jesus, rejoice, rejoice, and, again, I say, REJOICE :).

God BEAT death, His Son rose from the grave after three days . We NEVER have to go through what Jesus went through. HE went through it all- the worst of it all , the worst of all. Sure, Jesus' death was bad in itself, who wants to get nailed to a cross, poked in the side so our blood (Jesus' blood had eater too, don't scriptures say?) bleeds out of us. But, no, thst was nothing, there are tortures other man , and, woman, have experienced that rival crucifiction , and, of course, in bible times, many were crucified, not JUST Jesus. Bad, bad tortures go on today, I won't list them I just pray in my mind as I can remember , for those tortured in the name of Christ or just tortured , period.

But, what makes Jesus' death different is that He went to Hades forvthree days, experienced drsth like NO other, dying for what reason?

The sins of believers?
The sins of unbelievers?

No and no, just. Jesus died for BOTH ! FOR ALL THE SINS OF THE WORLD .

You , if you accept Christ and repent of your sins (just ask Jesus for forgiveness , and you are Saved!

You are His! He says so. And you are His forevermore :) You are going to be with Him the nanosecond AFTER you breathe your last Earthly breath.
