JustCuz, I like that you ask lots of questions in different threads. Your comments are equally interesting to read.
I am glad that you are open to and are sharing Christ with people. Keep it up. It amazes me that you know, at least, 2 languages. Bravo.
Regarding ageism, it is interesting that your original post talks about an older person making a comment about your younger age.
I have grown up working with kids and I am well aware of the wisdom that can come from those who are younger, so I understand how dismissing someone's ideas due to age frustrates you. If this is true, then I am not be surprised that you are smarter/wiser in different areas than me.
But, speaking of age, there are multiple ways to view "age" out there: 1)biological 2)intellectual 3)experiental 4) etc, etc, etc.
In biological terms, you are younger than most of the CC community. Intellectually, if you can read and write in two languages, you are more advanced than a lot of the world...in knowing languages (and probably information). As for your level of experience, you might be well-read in science, but the man that was rude to you might be working hands-on in a field that helps make your life easier; whereas you are more versed in, say, traveling the globe.
My point is that ageism online is hard to measure, because there are other factors involved. I know you know this is true, but I am highlighting something here. The man that you know to be older, crankier, and maybe not as smart as you--has
other factors in his life, too. Chances are he is not aware of them all; especially if he is not serving Jesus.
Look at me: I am 26 and never-married. I love different languages, but I only speak english.
I grew up in a town that had the KKK, yet I was the only white dude in an all-black gospel choir.
I have driven many hours for a foodbank, a van ministry, and for college and back multiple times.
But, did you know, I hate driving with a passion! I taught drama, lived with homeless people, and
have gone to ER rooms just to sit and encourage people. oh, last I knew, I have a handwriting level of a 3rd grader.
You see? There is more to you, yes, but also to everyone else.
We can say something happens because of a quality, circumstance, or flaw.
But the reality is there is a unique mixture of it all, which makes you--you.
As for the debate on Big Bang and other theories, you can know that God did it and not know, really, how.
But, as you are young
, keep on building a resume in the way of truth.
Maybe, one day, you will teach me something.
...I'm kidding. You already have.
