Have you ever wondered why it is socially acceptable to tease/mock people about some personal matters, but not others?

That's probably as clear as mud, so here are some examples:

Why is it seemingly okay to make remarks about thin people, but not heavy people?
Or okay to make jokes about someone you think is pretty, but not about someone you think is ugly?
Or okay to make remarks about rich people, but not poor people?
Or, as djness said...it's not okay for homosexuals to mock christians, but it's okay for christians to make jokes about homosexuals?

This stuff makes my doublestandard meter hit tilt.

Could be a matter of sensitivity. - Thin people generally aren't sensitive about being thin, while heavy people may be, the same with pretty and ugly, rich and poor. Christians generally aren't sensitive about being a christian (again, generally), however homosexuals generally are very sensitive about it. - Their identity tends to be so bound up in it and they desperately want to be seen as normal, thus they are very sensitive to it.

That's sort of my point. We really don't know what personal matters others might/might not be sensitive about, so..why do any of it?

I hate these kinds of rules. I don't tease people about stuff unless I know them extremely well and they know I'm only messing.

(For the record, I used to be really skinny, and I didn't appreciate when people commented or joked about it. It seemed rude and unnecessary to bring up, maybe that's just me.)

Hmm... there aren't many things that make me truly angry. Arrogant, dismissive attitudes don't exactly make me happy, though.

But there was this one time, where a woman was being all crazy at me. Like, literally. She admitted to being off her meds, but she was cursing up a storm and going off about NOTHING. And I honestly didn't mind. She was obviously not all there, mentally. So everything was cool, until she tried to get me in trouble. For literally no reason. And THAT made me angry. I snapped and did something I shouldn't have. I'm not going to say what I did, but I freely admit that it should not have been done.

As far as making it right goes, my actions were (fortunately) easily reversed. But still, my behavior was wrong. I remembered the part of 1 Corinthians 13, that says "love is not provoked", and so I figured I must not love that woman like I should. I can't make myself love someone, so I asked God to help me, and I really think He did.

I'm a really nice person and I make it a point to mind my own business and keep my mouth shut if I see something I don't like because I place a high value on humility and I want to be humble like the saints and the apostles, but when a stranger is rude to me out-of-the-blue (not during any sort of interaction with that person) I get angry and all my childhood pain from being bullied and abused comes flooding back. This is how I feel right now and whats making it worst is the fact that someone I thought was my good friend seems to be on that person's side and not on mine. Fine, so be it.

As hard as it is sometimes bieng walked on and yes I know there are times i've walked on others in life I've found ways to have peace in it. Remember you always have a choice as angry as you are from any situation you dont have to give in to the impulse. I find it hard when others are in those situations seems It makes me angrier sometimes. Depends on the day.

Breathe, Peace and Happiness are often a choice life just brings it to you that way sometimes. I guess it's alot easier for me because I"ve had alot of expierece with people bieng hateful.
