I don't think men should ever have long hair. 1 Corinthians 11:14-15
Now a beard, well as long as he trims it. Whether a man keeps facial hair is a question of personal style and convenience. But I think that long hair is reserved for girls.

We have to be careful though, that we are not making too much of this and make sure to consider this in the whole context of the chapter. We also need to realize that different cultures usually have different standards of what they considered long hair. For example, women today can have their hair to the shoulder and it would be considered long. However, a century or two ago, that would probably have been considered short.

Arwen: I agree about jeans. Guys look great in jeans! :) Skinny jeans? No...just no :)

McCharming: I don't really care how long/short a guy's hair/beard are as long as he keeps everything clean and well groomed.

Do guys mind if women have long or short hair?

Naturally it'd fall under the matter of personal preference. Let's use actress Halle Berry for example; I always thought she looked quite exquisite with those short to mid length hair styles. But I'm not saying that I prefer women with shorter hair. Frankly, I don't really care what your hair look likes. As long as your comfortable with how you look and that it doesn't deter you from growing spiritually.

Eh, I am actually indifferent about hair length as long as it suits them.

Really long hair can get caught in everything and that can be frustrating.

Sometimes women can get stuck in a short hair rut and lack the patience to grow it out. So its not for everyone.

EW!!!!! No Cyndi, you're doing it wrong :(

So Moral of the story is to go with what you feel is YOU. :)

I like beards and longish hair. ^_^ But like Jullianna said, clean and well groomed....it's all good. Grizzly mountain man is a bit much....but I can deal with it. It probably helps that my dad had a lumberjack beard all growing up. lol

Your dad had a lumberjack beard while growing up? WOW!

....Oh wait, while you were growing up, gotcha! ;)

Just as a side note though... I find it interesting that Jesus is almost always depicted as having long hair--at least to His shoulders.

We don't have any true images of what Jesus looked like... but I find it intriguing that almost every artist's rendition I've ever seen shows Jesus with long hair. If you all have ever seen a picture of Jesus with a buzz cut, please let me know. "Long" is also a subject of debate, as the Beatles' hair length was controversial back in their day, and it was only half as long as the pictures I've seen of Jesus.

Now, to make this post legal--different people look great in different things... hair length, presence or absence (and location!) and style included. I think it should be a given that hygiene and good grooming are a must. No one wants to hug someone who looks like they haven't washed their hair in two weeks.

I would say that he would be a type of Nazirite, but then he didn't follow the oath, so I agree, why do they depict him with shoulder length hair, especially since Roman Soldiers are quite often depicted as having super short hair.

Could it be possible that Jesus is depicted as having long hair and a beard because he does, in fact, have long hair and a beard? lol

I really almost never buy the 'different culture' argument. Yes, context is important, but the Bible is addressed at all mankind; not just Jaakob. When a culture contradicts the commandments and examples of the Bible it is usually a bad culture. Culture is an acceptable reason for differences in roofing techniques or the names for days; it is not an acceptable reason to violate the categories and canons of Biblical law.

Now as far as what is considered long/short hair I believe that we are talking relative here. There is, of course, no technical definition for 'long'. But men should have what is commonly viewed as short hair, and women should have longer hair. Also, note that for a woman her long hair is her glory whereas for a man he degrades himself by possessing it. So the two cases are not equivalent (yet another example of the moral difference between the sexes).

Certain special exceptions exist, such as those taking the Nazerite vow. That, however, makes the hair a symbol of a covenant. Similarly, while it may be acceptable for a monk to wear a hairshirt if you are NOT an ascetic monk doing so just makes you a crackpot attention seeker.

The depictions of Jesus are completely arbitrary. Other than his presumably semitic ethnos and the fact that he had a well-formed body we know nothing. He could have had curly black hair and been seven feet tall, it simply isn't germane to the Bible.

There is a vast difference between,"Do not murder", and men having long hair. A humongous difference. No where did I say that culture interprets the law. What I did said is that we need to remember that cultures are different in regards to styles. And do not try to twist my words again.

Yeah, you can't be killed for having long hair. That doesn't mean it isn't wrong to do so.
And, as far as 'styles' go my point was just that such 'styles' are not an excuse.

I'm curious to know what long is to you?
Well it's relative to females, though I would say that conventions worldwide tend to accept that a length beyond your ears is long, even when such styles are the norm for men.

I went somewhere once where this was practiced. I was at a long table with about 20 guys and when I got up to use the restroom, they ALL got up. O_O Not super comfortable in my opinion. Lets just let that tradition die...
Next stop, the Twilight zone :D

Hmmmm...can I ask the GUYS a question in here?? Because it's a question that's not really worth making a forum about, but it's something I'd like to find out.
