Who can understand it, some may think they do. But I say, just stop trying to understand it. Set the example and continue to pray for them...

Oh wait, do you pray for them to see the Light? Or pray for God to Save them, or both? Are they one in the same...heh heh...
hi Bookends.
i pray the same for all my family and friends:

that He would draw them to Himself and reveal Himself in Jesus Christ,
and save them eternally,
but, that all things according to His Will, not mine.

why is it no one at the great white throne judgment will be judged for sin? but only their works?

why is it they will be condemned only because their name was erased from the book of life?

why is it God removed the tree of life from the garden. so man could not chose to eat of it and live forever. why did he not just keep it there as a sign and make it so no one could ever eat of it. but look at it as a reminder of how bad they screwed up?
1 sins already atoned for....but the "work" of man is to believe Him who God sent.
2 they were born condemned and stayed condemned because they refused to believe.
3 Mercy!!!!!! Our born state is a big enough reminder...the law and our conscience bearing witness against us.

face it.
your view credits the Work of Jesus to satan.
oh Glory!

you know nothing of satan, saton has a dispsefull hate for isreal. to say satan would produce any doctrine which would give a naion he hates more than anyone any reprieve and promise is like saying Jesus healed under the power of beelzebub!

well Elin, truthfully, i was previously Reformed....though never became an actual member of a reformed assembly.
and i still consider myself small r-reformed. but i went back to Luther (for reasons i've already articulated)

but it was the going so far into the parts that i (personally) could not resolve that was a like a wall.
just like understanding millennialism - i could not understand how people saw it in the Bible when it isn't there.

so i had to go and actually study to see. now i know.
and in the doing of that, a lot of what was true popped right out.
comparing is a good thing.

so it's not as though i think anyone should, for example say "oh, i think i'll start with LUTHER, or CALVIN or WESLEY" and just decide to believe what they believe. it didn't work that way for me at all....more like process of elimination...lol

it comes as a result of continually studying, along with comparative studies.
if something is error, and if we stay at it, sooner or later the error will be made known.

if it can not be known (by my limited abilities), i have to rest on it.
which is why i am a Lutheran. because i'm uberlimited.

but that does not in any way negate the passages we are looking at saying whatever they say. my denom sees them also.
but we do not go beyond them from the pulpit. simply because it's not necessary.

that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that anyone, whether lay person or accomplished theologian shouldn't continue studying all things, if they choose to.

i do not and never have believed in doing the minimum because i'm afraid i'll be responsible for what i discover.
i'd rather face it if i'm in a dead end and retrace my steps than never consider i took a wrong turn.
i am not obligated to own anything i research or look at.
prolly made no sense at all.

LOL
kath
I agree, these things do not need to be preached from the pulpit.

The are strong meat for the mature (Heb 5:11-13), they should be limited to studies for the mature.

But truly knowing who to trust and obey does take a revealing to our spirit from an outside source.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(Mat 16:17)

My point was not to say that a man can know without illumination. My point
is that illumination is not the same as regeneration.

Okay, to address it in your terms.

He is a slave in that he is not free to choose/make all moral choices and, therefore, cannot choose to live a sinless life.

He is a slave to the llmitations of his fallen nature, he is not free from those limitations, which Adam did not have before he disobeyed God and, therefore, Adam was created truly free to make all moral choices.

It's the same as me being a slave to gravity.
I am not free in my person to overcome its limitations.
I must go outside my person to overcome it.
Jesus, through regeneration, frees those who believe in him from that hostility, insubordination and inability to obey God.

But believers still have the fallen nature, although they have been freed from the power of sin.

And their fallen nature limits their moral power.

For example, does the believer have the moral power to choose to live a completely sinless life?

He does not. But Adam had that power before the fall, and he lost it when he disobeyed God.

So slavery to sin speaks of our fallen nature and the limitations it places on our ability to make all moral choices.

I am having problems with the above Elin. For clearly the emboldened according to what you write refers to the Christian, the person accepted by God. Now if the above is true, the convert must remain a slave to sin, but Paul says this cannot happen:

Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey – whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

The point being, that when Christ and Paul spoke of being slaves to sin, they both said the Christian would be set free of being a slave to sin. As you have said, Christ's context was concerning rebirth into God's family(and therefore a salvation issue) Paul used the term to say if we are slaves to sin it leads to death,(a salvation issue) so with respect I don't see your context of the term, used by Christ or Paul, for your context makes it a non salvation issue, that is my point

C'mon E.G.; you know better than that, don't you?
Satan plays peoples, ethnicities, and creeds off against each other like a pool room shark knocks balls into corner pockets.
His specialty is playing one race against another. Infact that is what he is doing now in the middle east.
It was a Rothschild that bought the land that was seeded to become the "modern day Israel" in 1917 .
They called it the Balfour declaration.
Call it fate,.....but most living there are not sephardic(mideastern) but ashkenazi(northern european).
So all the promises of God are relavent only to some who might be of the tribe of Judah? What of the other 12? - (and there are 12 others) - Joseph had two.

Wow..

And this explains why you believe the way you do?

God knew people would recieve,m in fact many people all ready believed it before Christ even died.. Ever hear of abraham, Isaac? jacob? Daniel? David? many many others??
(What??? Who was slain before the foundations of the world?? - (Before Abraham, Isaac, Jacob,David and Daniel and many others decided to follow Him?)
WOW, indeed.
Oh so God does have omniscience and does know events which will happen thousands maybe millions of years in advance. Thanks for proving this

No pride in trusting someone else.

It is like I am drowning in the ocean. A savior comes to rescue me and says sit still trust me, and let me do all the work. don't fight me and try to save yourself or I will let you go.

I do just that. Nothing (because I am unable to save myself) and trust him completely.

later when we get back to shore. I boast of how I saved myself.. Are you kidding me?? Boast of saving myself?? HA HA HA! (Why boast?) - - - (No redeemed person would) - I know you are saying no one does but thats why I point it out.

why boast? are you kidding me? I said WHO WOULD BOAST. AND HOW COULD THEY? THEY CAN"T BOAST, and if they even try it would be a FALSE BOAST. because they did NOTHING to save themselves. they are decieved if they think they had a thing to do with their own salvation.

No, he would be on his knees, thankful and praising the one who risked his life to save yours, Giving HIM all the glory.. (Yes he would, yes I am)

You missed the whole point altogether.. This was speaking about the idiot who you claim would boast of saving himself based on doing NOTHING but trusting his savior.

in your senerio. You have many people drowing in the sea. A god who is perfectly able and has complete power to save everyone. But instead, he picks and choses. ok I will save him. Pass right over ten more, Then save this person. Pass over a few more, And chose to save that person. then sits there and watches everyone drown he COULD have saved.(here again, you supplant the words of God with your petty logic) - (Are some of those drowning in the sea-{Rev. 17:15} rich?) - (Do you not know that it is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven than to thread the eye of a needle with a rope?) -{the aramaic word isn't 'camel', its 'rope'}

Do you like twisting things? Who said anything about rich people? What does this have to do with a person who is completely able to save everyone, but choses to watch many drown??

Then demand everyone give him praise and glory??(No where in the scriptures does it say He demands worship) yeah right, Who is going to praise that Guy?("Every knee shall bow" is in recognition, not a frontal demand from a tyrant!) even the ones who he saved would be appalled that he let so many die when had had complete power to save them all..(yea, I agree, your idea of God would.....you got that right)

Wow.. just wow.

1. God does not demand praise? I guess the 1st commandment does not exist.
2. Every knee shall bow? yes they will. not because of your belief, but because every knee will admit they erred in their belief, and God showed them his love, but they rejected him.
3. Yeah my belief would. wow..how hard can one get??

so you say you believe the senerio I put forward?? and believe that everyone, including those who are saved, would not be appalled at a God who could have saved many, but did not even offer them salvation?

just wow!!

That is a huge difference than a savior not saving someone because they would not sit still, and continued to try to save himself.(really, your God wouldn't save the anxious?)
Yeah he would, if they trust in him. I can be anxious, and still sit still and let God do all the work.

The savior warned them if they tried to save themselves, he would leave them on their own. because they prevented him from saving them..

In this senerio. The savior gets the glory, because he tried to save everyone, but many chose to reject his offer of salvation and tried to save themselves. (What kind of God is that? That wouldn't save the fearful? Though He saves every other type of sinner?)

it has nothing to do with fear. it has to do with trust.. god said I and only I can save you, you can not save yourself. it does not matter how scared you are. if you try to work to save yourself. GOD WILL NOT SAVE YOU..

or have you somehow gone arminian on us?

Your dissemblage of the character of God is quite remarkable.

your continued twisting of what everyone says is amazing. how can you live with yourself?

oh wait, the pharisees did this for years!

It might be. But you would have to be pretty naive not to see, that if a person believed:

But believers still have the fallen nature, although they have been freed from the power of sin.

And their fallen nature limits their moral power.

For example, does the believer have the moral power to choose to live a completely sinless life?

He does not

T
hey would, inevitably at times fall back on the above as an excuse for sin
I think it is called selective blindness. they see what they want to see and thats all

I agree some ponder for a spell why He would even let dna out from the womb
knowing they would reject Him. I got over that without creating a new doctrine.

The election you are and have been referring to from romans 9 is a mistake from the
very beginning(not saying just romans 9 but it is referred to often). And the verses in that context is not referring to individual salvation.
But all salvation is individual, based on individual faith.

The faith of the individuals in my group won't save me unless I also have saving faith, individually.
Alot is built upon that rendering supposing that it is and thats where alot of this comes from.

If this "odiosness" you talk about is a reason to be in this thread i would just leave.
That doesnt bug me. The fact that limited atonement is only one point of view one
that i think has terrible implications and ramifications and not biblical is why id stay.
Plus im taking notes since to discuss this purposely is new to me.

I pick up on patterns and cliches and stuff like that right away. So im taking notes
from the
subliminal statements and opposing remarks that presume to know the reason
people dont receive certain doctrines. I think it sorta projects the feeling they had.

So this thread is amazingly helpful to me. Since i never could have guessed why anyone
would believe alot of this from the bible alone.
Always glad to help when I can! :)

Sounds like you are an observer of humanity.

okay...what about this though mike - go to the calling (which yesterday you said you had the scoop on, so i should be patient until i see that - because that can shut this whole thing down for me...if i see that calling part...that the calling is not of God also, or is man's part in it.....i dunno:confused:):

Acts 3:9
New International Version (©1984)
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."

English Standard Version (©2001)
For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
"For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."

Holman Christian Standard Bible (©2009)
For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call."

International Standard Version (©2012)
For this promise belongs to you and your children, as well as to all those who are distant, whom the Lord our God may call to himself."

i'll try not to ask you many more questions, because i really only have a few:)
this would be one of them.
and how to discuss it without using terms from some denoms that sidetrack everything before it gets going.
anyways....mebee i go to News and Poetry for a spell.
Acts 2:21For whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved."
So now we gots a problem huh? whos calling who? And there is alot more text in that same order.

That was not acts 3:9 but look at it in context and you will see who the called are.

Acts 2:[SUP]37 [/SUP]Now when they heard this, they were cut to the hear(HolySpirits conviction, grace), and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”[SUP]38 [/SUP]Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive(hadnt been regenerated yet)the gift of the Holy Spirit. [SUP]39 [/SUP]For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. the promise here isnt saying only those called but as many(which is all) the promise is to. In otherwords it is saying the promise is for everyone.

[SUP]40 [/SUP]And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved(most versions say "save yourself) from this perverse generation.” [SUP]41Then they who gladly received His word [/SUP]were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

All are called John 1:
[SUP]9 [/SUP]That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

lol. Keep believing that way. Satan is the one who for 4000 years has tried to anihalate and wipre every natural born child of Isreal off the face of the earth. He has failed every time.

There must be a reason. but it can't be for the glory of God. this would glorify satan.

By yourself.

lol.. You, who has called me every name in the book? on almost every post you make to me?

I have never doubted your salvation or said you were not saved,

However, I do not see the love of God in you at all.

if all you can do is twist what everyone says and turn it into something which was not even remotely close to what they said to keep your faith. then so be it.

Your only hurting yourself. Your not going to win anyone to your side if you continue to do this.
