I understand that many people have strong attachments to their pets, and so I sincerely do not mean for this, in reply to the OP, to sound harsh: What does it matter?

And if animals transcend, then perhaps we should begging the question of which ones go to Heaven. It's a tough subject, I know; I have been taught that animals do not pass into Heaven, but I do not know for certain.
Only good ones go to heaven.

Interesting topic, that lots disagree on. And for the record that guinea pig in my profile pictures is not the one I lost. XD

Regardless if animals go to heaven or not, I know when they pass away God would make sure they wouldn't be hurt. They'd be at peace, no matter what kind of peace.

I'm just curious in all of your opinions about this topic. Plus I miss a guinea pig I use to have.
Ecclesiastes 3:19-21King James Version (KJV)

19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

God gave man dominion over the lower animals. Animals were to be for man’s benefit, not man for the animals’. But neither was man to abuse his charges the way some vivisectionists do, nor to destroy them for sport as many modern Nimrods do. “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.” While man was yet in Eden God provided him with animal skins for clothing and after the Flood he gave man animal flesh for food.—Prov. 12:10.
Christians, while not abusing or needlessly destroying lower animals for sport, will put first things first. They will give their hearts’ devotion to their Creator God.

I fully believe that our favorite animals will go to heaven. Perhaps all animals that have lived on earth will go to heaven, especially our beloved pets. God wants us to be happy with Him for eternity in heaven so why would He not make provisions for our pets to be with us? I believe that He is certainly capable of resurrecting our animals. Really, how hard can that be?

Ahh.....interesting point....but this now begs for more answers....on the flip side, where do animals like Jaws or Cujo go? Are there "bad" animals?
Or do they pay for their sins a little while and then get destroyed completely?

Is that in line with this, or is that a different question/whole new thread topic then?

I really don't know if animals, as we know them, go to Heaven.
It would be cool if they did go.:D

Cujo had rabies so I would give him a pass. I'm not sure about Jaws 'cause he definitely had an attitude problem.

Perhaps the shark simply had a voracious appetite, kind of like Karl from Big Fish. :p

I personally always thought the answer was no, but after reading this verse the other day...well now I wonder!
2 Kings 6:17

And Elisha prayed, "Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

The Bible talks about animals in heaven. It talks about how our Father wants to give us good things.

I don't know if dogs have souls, but they have the power of choice, and they exercise it. My dogs know when they've done something wrong. They choose to be with their people. They WANT to love us.

My opinion is that yes, pets can go to heaven. My opinion isn't worth much, though. :/

My four pitbulls have piled themselves on a twin mattress with my daughter who they haven't seen in a month. They all look sublimely happy, and like they are already in heaven. :)

He's capable, ofcourse He is, but that doesn't mean He wants to.
There certainly isn't a scriptural basis for that.

Personally I think Jaws just had a bad toothache. I also believe that not everything that happens has been put in the bible. Just because it isn't in the bible doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I have no doubts that our animals go to heaven. In fact I believe most animals are closer to God than we are! Who is to say an animal doesn't have a soul? Who is to say he doesn't know the God who created him? I believe God has been put in a box and he can do anything he wants. And he doesn't need our permission. Nor does everything have to be in the Bible that he does. Yes, we have dominion over animals. I hunt for food. And every deer I get, I pray it will be in heaven. I even accidentley ran over a squirrel today (roads icy, couldn't hit the breaks). And yes, I prayed God would take him into his loving arms.
