They are also subsidized in the US and I do not believe it is fair that my tax money is used to pay for some one to buy what I can not afford to buy.
not sure how that works

sometimes hardcore greenies have their head in the sand, like they can afford to be 'green' while others simply cannot.

but then as everyone finds out, life just isnt fair most of the time.

also I remember when some companies tried to cut down on plastic by only producing half a plastic dvd case for example and reducing the amount of plastic in each product, so they only lasted half as long since they were so flimsy lol

humans can be stupid, dont forget that.

I am all for saving the earth.
I live a very simple off grid life.
Seems those who complain the most are the ones doing the most damage with their big houses, big cars, parties, vacations etc.

even if we went to electric, cutting toxic emissions would be better than doing NOTHING if not for the air that we breathe. yOu want to keep choking on acid rain and smog, well up to you.
well I dont live in the US so i dont pay that much attention to it, sorry
why should I --if I dont live there?

"Keep choking"?? I'm not choking at all. There's no acid rain or smoggy air in my area of the world. Oregon coast is actually pretty nice.
Now China, on the other hand, is pretty bad off. If anything we should be going after them for destroying their air quality.
Though, by your argument I guess I shouldn't care about China's air quality because, you know, I don't live there. ;)

I guess you have not paid attention to the fact that the western half of the US has been running out of water because of a lack of rain for years now. Many hydro electric plant will have to be shut down very soon. Some have already cut back on output.
Really? Which western states? I know CA is bad off for water but here in Oregon, there's no shortage. WA is pretty well saturated, too. My sis is in ID and they don't have water issues. NV, NM, and AZ have always been dry. From what I heard, it was the southern states having drought issues (though even then, family in MS said that wasn't an issue). Or is it states on the eastern side of the Rockies that are having water issues?

use whatver is being thrown away as fuel, like what happens to all that plastic packaging or what not.
Whatever, eh?
Latest craziness from the pro-abortion side is that we should use aborted babies as bio-fuel.
Be careful with your words. Using "whatever is being thrown away" could someday mean your parents or pets or unborn children.
Warning: naughty words are used by the tik-tokker

china is the country that may be manufacturing the electric cars, because they have the resources and the scale to do it. So its important to know what goes in them and how they are manufacturing them.

I am not arguing anything please dont make whatver I post into an argument, it is not the intention! . It is actually to find out more.

ssesh some people just want to argue over every little thing on here. Have they got nothing better to do.

I dont know too much about them as they are new, but I have seen some displayed in expos, mostly Teslas.

Its funny opening up the hood and seeing no engine there....

some friends have e-bikes but they are very expensive, however, they use them a lot

You sure do have a LOT of weird theories about what you think we do though.

Maybe you should pay more attention.

What do you think of electric cars? If youve got one, would you recommend them? Any particular make?
How does it compare to a petrol/gas run car? Is it cost effective?

Anything to be aware of?
I stick with my gasoline powered car. I maintain it very well. That should insure it's environmentally friendly.

I imagine electric car repairs wouldn't be cheap.

Some are led to think they help reduce a person's carbon footprint. What a phrase. We are carbon.

Or that it helps save the planet. But electricity is generated from two sources.
Coal and nuclear power generators.

It's the illusion that sells these cars. And their batteries? No thing "green" about that. But for some, it may be no big deal.

https://get-green-now.com/environmental-impact-electric-vehicle-batteries/
"Electric vehicles are powered by lithium-ion batteries. Mining lithium and manufacturing these batteries is water-intensive and contributes to air, soil, and water pollution. But when you look at the bigger picture, EVs are “greener” overall than gasoline cars when comparing their entire life cycles (including battery production & disposal). So electric car batteries actually reduce our overall environmental impact." Environmental Impact of Electric Car Batteries (Production, Use & Disposal)

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56574779
(EV=Electric Vehicle)

"EV batteries are larger and heavier than those in regular cars and are made up of several hundred individual lithium-ion cells, all of which need dismantling. They contain hazardous materials, and have an inconvenient tendency to explode if disassembled incorrectly. "Currently, globally, it's very hard to get detailed figures for what percentage of lithium-ion batteries are recycled, but the value everyone quotes is about 5%," says Dr Anderson. "In some parts of the world it's considerably less."

maybe in US they are not a great option, but in other countries that dont rely on coal and nuclear power they could be very efficient

It seems Tesla is a US company though...not sure what other ones are out there

very much in its infancy here in nz and not many early adopters though

electric lawnmowers or robomowers are interesting though! I like that there is less noise, gas power mowers are incredibly noisy. Plus if doing a huge lawns or sports fields, you need safe place to store all the gas.

i supoose you have to take the bad with the good and weigh up the options
electric trams and trains require rails of course, but you are not going to get rails reaching everywhere roads can

I keep wondering about maglev though or magnetic power, you just program where you want to go and it drives you there, Maye the roads need to be magnetic? Or there need to be markers or some signalling point that can pull you along a designated route. OR if the roads themselves are electrified, somehow in the tar seal, and you have a special wheel that as it comes into contact with the road, can self propel, even along the flats and up hills.

its whether you want to breathe carbon monoxide fumes on every road in every city, OR have clean air and energy where you live. You can plant more trees, and have more greenery, but it seems people just dont want to do that. for some strange reason.

I think people tend to lack imagination over solutions and seem to think theres only one way to do things. need to think outside the box.

i used to take lithium, I can tell you its not that great for the human body but it calms people down.
apprently comes from Peru. But surely there are other minerals that can be used to make batteries.

magnesium, salt etc

I don't really see it as a financial savings. They are very expensive to buy, the batteries to be replaced can cost 3500-10000. But that is my take on them.

Ah, I see. So you can go off on a tangent but I can't comment on that tangent. Got it. lol

I think you aren't understanding the context of the word "argument" in my previous reply.
You do realize that this thread is basically a debate? Pros and cons of electric vehicles? "Arguments" or debates or whatever you want to call it are going to happen. Unless you were looking for an echo chamber where everyone agreed with your every word? Because that's the only way you're going to avoid an "argument".

As an aside, when you said you didn't care what happened in the US because you don't live there, was that comment your way of trying to "find out more"? Or were you just being flippant?

but how long do the batteries last is the question, how much mileage can a car do? Before it needs repairing or replacing. I dont think people know yet.

one of my friends says compared to a gas car, it doesnt actually cost much to run, and it charges in 20 minutes.
Like a full 'tank' is $11 compared to $60 on gas.

I dont know how she and her husband got a electric car, but shes been riding her e-bike for a few years now, nearly everyday.
an e-bike costs about $5000 new but just the battery would be $900 ...still out of reach for most, but the savings if you used it everyday would compare. And beats pedalling up the huge hills we have.

Actually li-ion batteries have a fairly predictable drop-off rate. It is determined by how many times you charge them, how far down you drain them and the temperature at which they operate. If you know all the parameters you can predict how long they will last with a good degree of accuracy.
