Jesus seemed to imply that a new life-style was all that we really needed.
correct:)...a Higher Quality life style in the Presence of god.

Let me ask something: Why try to "improve" something that God has made good in the first place?
we know to how to wreck things, and God fix it...
Its always been like that..

My mother now has a tattoo and has for 10+ years. Everyone is getting tattoos. And as far as the spiritual and inward, if you always focus on that then how will you ever focus on the outward appearance of being professional and making sure you could ever keep a job or get one. There is a time where I dedicate to my spiritual walk with God and a time where I focus on the outward because if one always focuses on the spiritual and inward...then how would we be able to take care of our families and homes?

And if everyone wants to take all this literally...women shave their legs and arm pits. I surely do. Men shave their beards. I have pierced ears but I rarely wear earrings. We get our hair cut..and some wax their legs, arms, and what not. But back to tattoos. I've just always wanted one and I have children and want to make the tattoo about them with their birth colors and an angel baby sleeping on the flowers. I just wanted an interesting discussion and not a serious biblical debate.

"When God Pushes You To The Edge Of Difficulty, One Of Two Things Can Happen. Either He Will Catch You When You Fall, Or He Will Teach You How To Fly."-but if man pushed himself to the edge of difficulty,no one will be there to help.People are selfish to bother. The only one who really cares is Jesus, and most of us turn our back on Him sometimes..
So when we realize our folly and if we cme back,we are reminded that only God cares..So the real thing is should a person live on his/her thinking or God's?
Its not about shaving legs or shaving beard. It all about how much we Prayed to get solution for a better walk in Jesus, and was the solution/s wrong in course of time.Definitely then it was not from God.Saints in past had their troubles and separated lives from the fashions of their time too.we are no different.Either we struggle to be Holy irrespective of consequences faced in this life or deny Jesus. Its very simple.

Coming to tattoos,God forbids it..
If its a temptation that one feel, then things are different. One must take the Struggle and ask God to provide Grace to get out. There is no other option no matter how much time it takes..God has Patience but He is still Holy.

"I just wanted an interesting discussion and not a serious biblical debate." - we should be serious, the only happiness that is promoted biblicaly is Joy and Laughter on happy occasions.Getting interested in topic and reaching nowhere is not Christian.
we struggle our whole lives to be something of value to reach up to Godly standards..and by Grace of God we reach. If we have a topic and reach to the conclusion without getting to 1000th comment, then the person who started the post got something to learn in his/her Christian walk. Also did people who join the conversation.
Shouldn't we be serious on a serious topic like this?Is it about democracy?
Is it about God's values that we need to focus or ours?
Unseen we all have our own probs to wrestle, but when conversing in public and that too when its related to Spiritual matters shouldn't we try to come to conclusions that can help many?

I don't understand how Christians who put on Christ can debate this. Christians agree that God created us, and as Christians we try to follow God's ways for us. We know that if we do, the world works with us in the best way.

So some are asking if going along with God's ways includes not changing permanently how God created our skin, I should think the answer would be obvious. Changing how God created us is not acceptable, regardless of the man made reasons we come up with.

I think that when it comes to definitive damage of our body as the temple of God, we should follow this

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Cor. 3,17

As it goes for hair or beard, they will grow, so it is not definite damage (Samson?) but tattoo is much permanent, although …

Ok.. nevermind…

Sorry for multiple posts

Be blessed :)
you have a point,
since we live in Grace Period...God Forgives what we did in past...

Don't bring in new habits(not talking about past addictions which God will Heal) because tomorrow it will take you away from God.Be it tattoo or whatever..:)

This is very important; we do indeed need a holy life to commend what we profess to believe, as believers in the Lord Jesus.

Tattoos are not necessary. Faith based ones are not necessary, either, although some Christians choose to have it done possibly because they are indeed effective as conversation-starters in witness.
i think i misunderstood your comment there....:(
you meant there faith based tattoos,i guess -that is wrong,i agree...
faith based tattoos are also tattoos, and that is wrong so..

Apologies for this wrong comment...
"Faith based ones are not necessary????
Christian walk is in Faith and Faith alone..."

God Bless:)

the temple inspired by God, planned by David and built by Solomon was decorated with pictures of cherubim, palm trees and open flowers (1 Kings ch. 6).

does anyone have tattoos of cherubim, palm trees and open flowers?
Flower tattoos are quite popular, anyhow.

I'm not really against tattoos, been thinking of having one when I reach the age of 21.

Just think a lot of times what you want to inked on your skin permanently...
and make something out that will honor God :)
I guess a lot depends on the design, whether it's God honoring, and is an effective faith based tattoo.

How do you feel about the idea of tattoos, particularly if the design is faith based?
farouk, personally I feel that tattoos are wrong because God says we are not to mark up or cut our bodies, but even if the design is faith-based, that doesnt mean its ok to get one. But i know people have their own ideas about tattoos. :)

Okay, thanks.

I think tattoos may have gotten themselves a bit of an image issue in the past, when it was a man thing: sailors, bikers... But now in North America 60% - 70% of parlor clients are women (and in some areas the proportion is even higher, apparently). Parlors are often like salons, now; many designs are faith based; the ball park has changed hugely, I think.

Thanks for your comments.

I think people would be well advised not to get tattoos (because they don't come off).

I have a cross on my arm. Its sort of a work in progress.
I see; so you keep adding ink to it.

So do you get opportunities to talk to people about the Lord, through your tattoo?

Funny thing is that it is covering a tattoo from my past....so yes.
