My mother now has a tattoo and has for 10+ years. Everyone is getting tattoos. And as far as the spiritual and inward, if you always focus on that then how will you ever focus on the outward appearance of being professional and making sure you could ever keep a job or get one. There is a time where I dedicate to my spiritual walk with God and a time where I focus on the outward because if one always focuses on the spiritual and inward...then how would we be able to take care of our families and homes?

And if everyone wants to take all this literally...women shave their legs and arm pits. I surely do. Men shave their beards. I have pierced ears but I rarely wear earrings. We get our hair cut..and some wax their legs, arms, and what not. But back to tattoos. I've just always wanted one and I have children and want to make the tattoo about them with their birth colors and an angel baby sleeping on the flowers. I just wanted an interesting discussion and not a serious biblical debate.
Hi there! I don't think the Bible is ever irrelevant; it's God's Word, after all.

Yes, the outward is important also; what I meant was that the inward and spiritual comes first: loving the Lord Jesus, and honoring Him in prayer, Bible reading and worship and in our lives, come first.

So your mom has been tattooed for over 10 years? is it a nice tattoo? faith based in design, maybe?

I think you said your parents previously did not like tattoos; seems like your mom changed her mind. It's not unusual for the practice of getting tattoos to run in families, in fact.

Let me ask something: Why try to "improve" something that God has made good in the first place?

So you really say that, for example, a Christian fish sign <>< on a wrist for witness purposes defiles the temple of God? I would have thought that it's moral and spiritual defilement that is involved in 1 Cor. 3.17; immoral practices, etc.
Hm.. what can I say…all of our brothers which came to us with tattoos .. they removed them … it was reportedly little bit more painful then getting tattoo but nothing horrible .. and it was their decision

But about your question...

I can tell you this.. I don’t think that Paul had on his mind tattoos as a way of glorify God in our body when he wrote (inspired with Holy Spirit)

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

But brother I love you (with Christian kind of love ... I mean with Christ love) even with your tattoos … :)
...if this is what you are asking

So with that being said, can I please keep my opinion about tattoos? :)

For Christians with faith based tattoos (Bible ref., Christian fish sign <><, etc.), I think part of the emphasis may be on whether pragmatically they are useful in witness and efficient as conversation-starters.

I am not really for or against tattoos. I don't have any out of matter of personal preference. But I must ask this: Should it take the use of tattoos as a witnessing tool, or should the world see many vivid examples of our faith without looking at our skin for evidence?

And why can't our actions and speech and life-style and culture be enough of a witness?

My parents back then stopped going to church. So I thought they just told me all the tattoo stuff to scare me. They didn't need to scare me though. I behaved in high school. The only wrong thing I did in high school years was go to the prom without my dads permission...he thought it was wrong of me to go so I did it behind his back. Wrong yes I know. But that's the past. Anyways...so no the tattoo is not religion based. It's a small wolf on her shoulder blade.

Shrimp, amen!

I feel tattoos are not permissible. Why? it is like you are defacing a building, a bridge, or a pillar on a building with graffiti and you saw how horrible they did? Right? What are we supposed to be? Vessels of God. We are ALREADY tattooed but you and I can not see them. It said in the book of Revelation a couple of times.. One is the Mark of the Beast known as 6 6 6. The other is names written including Jesus Christ. The first mark was way back to Cain for his murder of his brother, Abel. Those marks (tattoos in today's terminology), are for God's reasons we all have for. But we are not to change anything. God made us this way. Look, I refused to have implants for my ears because the Bible says do not put anything in your body.

So, I would not allow tattoos on me and when it comes to finding the right woman God wants to provide, I do not want any tattoos on her. I do find them distracting and looks messy to me. You see, I prefer she use sign language and what if it is on her hands or arms.. or even neck or face.. no thanks.

Shoulder is a popular placement; and it's a wolf, which is often used as a Native American symbol; so does your mom have native American heritage?

I agree that many vivid examples of our faith quite apart from tattoos are the most important.

Jesus seemed to imply that a new life-style was all that we really needed.

This is very important; we do indeed need a holy life to commend what we profess to believe, as believers in the Lord Jesus.

Tattoos are not necessary. Faith based ones are not necessary, either, although some Christians choose to have it done possibly because they are indeed effective as conversation-starters in witness.

How do I feel about tattoos?

I feel they must really hurt a lot,
so when I want a pretty picture...
I ask the artist to paint it on a nice piece of canvas.

: )

They will not keep born again believers out of heaven all the rest is just a bunch of folks spouting opinions that dont hold much water. The blood of Jesus will cover our sins if in fact a tattoo is considered sin by some? We could start a thread on what is sin and really rip the roof off but that I'll leave to the other comics.
