Actually, I was in AWANA for a while, and we were offered points and prizes for memorizing verses. But to me, the work involved just wasn't worth the payoff in any sense. And rarely did I see another kid actually recite the verse without the pastor spelling it out for them. It actually amazes me that you find verse memorization to be enjoyable! I just like to get the gist of the text, try to understand what it means, then move on.

Oh boy, lol as you get older you will really kick yourself for saying that.

Continue with God and He will open up a whole new way of thinking, it all depends on
how much you love God and His word. It doesn't always come overnight (maybe for
some it does). Also just like human growth spurts, there can be spiritual growth spurts.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will push you forward, that you will experience spiritual
growth spurts and believe when me you do, you will eat your words above. Lol

Let's stop for a moment and explore why we like to play pokemon.

It mimics education for one:

For example, learning the pokemon types and their battle strategies and how best to overcome an opponent. Yet, this is a counterfeit of God's true reality and a backwards one at that.

You see friends, there is a true education to be gained, and the real education is like drinking pure water as opposed to acid, that eats our spiritual insides out.

So is there a Biblical comparison here? Does the Bible compare eating and drinking with Bible Study and living according to God's Word?
Let's look at a few texts.

Notice Jeremiah 15:16

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.
Jeremiah 15:16 KJV
http://bible.com/1/jer.15.16.KJV
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God , that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord :
Amos 8:11 KJV
http://bible.com/1/amo.8.11.KJV

In Genesis we read about Joseph.
Notice that a famine would happen. Joseph was storing up grain for 7 years, because a famine was coming. Oh my friends, we are headed towards a famine, and the one time we have an opportunity in time of peace to study God's Word we are busy gathering dirt to eat.

But this state of affairs was predicted in Revelation 8:10

Notice what Revelation says:

And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Revelation 8:10-11

Could it be, that while we are busy trying to "catch em all" that we are trying to catch the wrong thing?

Notice what Jesus says to His disciples in Matthew 4:

And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
Matthew 4:18*-‬22 KJV
http://bible.com/1/mat.4.18-22.KJV

So why is it such a big deal what we spend our time thinking about?

Notice Genesis
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord .
Genesis 6:5*-‬8 KJV
http://bible.com/1/gen.6.5-8.KJV

Now let's look at the modern parallel

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:3*-‬9 KJV
http://bible.com/1/2pe.3.3-9.KJV

Finally look at Revelation 21

Here is a snippet

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Wow you can just see how people with mental health problems or personality
disorders are going to go "monster raving around the twist".

Is that pacman chasing me real, imaginary or a computer app!

It looks like it will have some useful commercial and industrial uses. But wow once people
fought zombies on TV screens. Now you can fight them in almost real life. Just wait
until a vampire zombie chasing game comes out. People will be running under cars to
dodge imaginary character.

At least in Star Trek their activities were confined to a holodeck. Lol

Uuuuugh, okay. One can find fault in virtually ANY pasttime in existence.

There will always be people who misuse and abuse awesome things to make them look bad. People do it with God's word every day, taking things out of context and picking and choosing truths.

Working out and getting good excerise daily is healthy and good, right? But there are people who develop an extremely unhealthy obsession with working out, to the point where they need an intervention. Do we warn people against excersicing and use those who abuse it as an example for steering away from it? No. Because that would be stupid. And ridiculous.
A glass of wine here and there is good. Is it possible for one to enjoy a glass of wine here and there without becoming an alcoholic? Or do we just tell people to avoid it altogether because it can and will become an addiction, and you can and will become an alcoholic?

Also, I don't usually carry my Bible around; unstead, I just use the bible app on my phone. When I play Pokemon Go, I'm constantly looking up between Pokestops/Pokemon, but when I'm reading on my Bible app, I become very immersed and stare at the screen the whole time. Sooooo I'm actually less aware of my sorroundings when I use the Bible app, ironically

Memorizing scripture does help SOME people learn about God. But I prefer to learn the stories and their meanings, rather that the verses themselves. And as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with that.

And ya know what? I've just been reminded of why I don't go on CC. It's because most of what goes on here is just... bad for us. Sure, there are people on here like Tintin or Willie T, but we mostly seem to have Laura Charloette-Type members (yup, that was a Pokepun). People who just want a place to vent their frustrations without losing face in real life, and won't even THINK about seeing an argument (and for goodness' sake, we do a LOT of arguing here) from both

The problem is, too many people make a life out of passtimes.

Further, even if they didn't make a life out of it, 5 mins of it is still wrong, it completely contradicts the nature of the Lord and how He asks us His followers to commit our lives to Him and Him alone.

Well maybe youll feel better about hearing from someone your age. You are just a spoiled brat who thinks himself smarter than he is throwing around fancy words and having no idea what they mean. How about you start with defining ''legalism'' plus knowing Bible verses is important in a spiritual walk with God which you dont seem to have. How about you start acting your age and grow up. You are defiling people for nothing. Because of some comments and blast yourself. Have a nice day

Yeah... this is what I meant. I just end up getting beat up and called spoiled for defending my case. I can define legalism for you, but I don't think that you really care about that part. You want me to leave, so I will. I'm sorry for offending you; I have been known for being EXTREMELY insensitive, as well as slow. I don't want to make anyone mad, but I do want to make sure that I get my point across. Pokemon is not inherently evil, and I've already said why. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to think about why I messed up so badly on this thread. And also, Laura, you can have God be the focus of your life even while playing a video game. If doing stuff other than worshipping or reading the Bible can't be done with God as the focus, then no Christian should do anything but. And hey, maybe they really should. I don't know. I'm just a kid myself.

Fantastic study, keep up the great contributions. They illustrate so well how anti-biblical this 'game' is and why Christians after being educated on the matter should want no part of it. Let's live our lives according to God's special plan for our life and God's ultimate word in the bible.

I do have a word of caution here. If we get rid of something we need to be able to fill the void. Unfortunately, as I have found out way too many times for myself, if I don't fill the void I end up going way deeper than when I left. There is a reason behind this though and that can be found in the words of Jesus. In Luke 11 we read: When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.Luke 11:21*-‬28 KJVhttp://bible.com/1/luk.11.21-28.KJVSo the next question comes: What do replace playing pokemon with? We will take this apart piece by piece, because you see, pokemon seemingly meets several needs and seemingly fills some very big voids. To start let's look at the beginning of the game. At the very outset of most pokemon games, you get to choose your very own pokemon to be by your side. This creature then gets stronger the more you use it in battles and on turn you get more rewarded, but in order to strengthen your creature, you fight other creatures on adventures to stop team rocket( the bad guys who also have pokemon but use them for evil means. Wow! You are probably saying. This is too cool, which is what I was saying when I started, but if you think that is something, wait till you hear this. Is there a Biblical version of this? Yes. What is that? Well let me ask you a question. Did you ever have a favorite memory verse as a child? If so, you can probably say it right now if I were to ask you. You picked that verse out of Scripture because it was your favorite. Notice what the Bible says about itself: *[[Heb 4:12]] KJV* For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Friends we are in a real spiritual war. We need to know how to use the Sword that God has given us. Without that knowledge we are in danger of being deceived. But it doesn't stop here. Jesus said that before He left for heaven after being here that He would send us the comforter. Notice what He says in John 16But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: note 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. We are not alone, Jesus has promised to be with us in our journey. There are people to meet who God wants us to meet. Be in prayer, and He will point you to people who need Him. We have a mission. Notice what Jesus says at the end of Matthew in Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: note 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.During this mission and work we need to be armed, and God has provided us with this armour. Notice with me Ephesians 6: 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. note note note 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. note 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Now let's look at another area. The area of leveling up. Does the Word of God address this as well? Yes! In fact, in 2 corinthians 3:18 a verse used earlier in a post, the Bible says:*[[2Co 3:18]] KJV* But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.Did you notice the from glory to glory part? We are growing in our relationship with Jesus! Also it's important to notice that we also are battling an enemy that uses Scripture too. Take look at this account found in Matthew 4 again. Jesus is in the wilderness and being tempted by the devil: 1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. note 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.Did you notice Jesus answer in ever temptation? It is written. He knew Hid Bible better than satan. He promises to be with us in our journey and battles too! Notice His promise in Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: note 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

It is just a game :/ and they are not "demons" they are monsters, just like "Monsters inc" or those cute critters and horses Disney shows. When I was little, my mom got her hands on everything I loved and just tossed it away claiming it was "demonic" and bad. MY comic books were all thrown away as well as my Harry Potter books. Heck, even my Disney princesses toys were thrown out.

Now let me tell ya. Did that even achieve anything? Far from helping me grow to be a woman that doesnt commit any sins, it only made me so angry at my mom that we fight a lot. It didnt change me in a positive way but it made me regret and feel that ive missed so much in life.

I don`t get it why religious people have to demonize everything. Ive even seen some Hello Kitty and Spongebob material being demonized too...

People, they are toys. Please stop trying to find the evil in everything and start enjoying life a little bit.

Sorry if this was harsh, I just kinda had enough. Its my very own personal opinion sorry if it bothered anyone.
I agree with you. I was a kid before Apps and Pokémon came along. I remember when people were freaked out by playing the Led Zeppelin album backwards, he supposedly said, oh my sweet Satan. We tried it and we just heard a warped sounding record. I played with Barbie before everyone thought she was to skinny. I can't remember any toy's that were considered evil. I remember Harry Potter came out and everyone thought that was evil too. This is a fad, like other things that have come and gone. This will pass in time too.

Want to know what I think is evil? ISIS, Kim Jong, North Korean leader, people who abuse those that are weaker than them, like animals and children, people who go on killing sprees, drug dealers and calories.

Another example of evidence. Great idea to open this thread to inspire and educate others about the nature of this scheme and how if we don't follow Christ in all of our ways, how much damage we can allow the enemy to wreak in our lives.
