my parents are still here
I have memories of my grandparents, that I knew so haven't forgotten them (and us grandchildren have collective memories)
plus their surname has been passed down to me

I know if any of my friends/family are saved, that means they will have eternal life and will NOT be forgotten..God will keep them.

For the dead. I have planted trees, made gardens or created books, drawings, honoured them with stories or poetry, or made donations to charities they believed in.

They dont ask me to make tattoos of them when they die. Actually most people give flowers because we know flowers are temporary, the grass withers and dies...we are on earth just for a season, 120 years at the most. But our eternal lives will be in heaven, unless we refuse salvation and go our own way.

the pastor of the church Im going to did preach on this topic and shared scripture about it. He also spoke about earrings as well.

earrings or piercing is a different thing though, for the Hebrews, it was a sign of being a slave.
Jesus was pierced (hands and feet, heart) and also he had scars on his back from being flogged, which I supoose was like tattoo, in that it was on his skin, but he never went and got those things deliberately.

I hope you are at peace with your earthly parents, though your Heavenly Father is actually the one who provides for you even when they pass on. So I think you just need to get right in your mind who is the Lord here , who your body ultimately belongs to and really pray about things if you are unsure.

Both my upper arms are covered in them. I got them before being saved.
I think Leviticus 19 v 28 pretty much says it.
Some say we are free from all the law so we can do things once prohibited. Sadly that way of thinking has led to the majority of modern churches indistinguishable from the world about it.
Does anyone honestly think that a thing that was practiced by peoples whom God abhorred, He now thinks is ok!? A thing he warned against doing, marking one for the dead!?
Like you get told how much He hates certain practices from pagan type peoples and what they do, does He ever turn around and say, "No its ok now, do what they do!"?
There is a big difference where we are not required to do certain ceremonial things the Jews were required to like washings and sacrifices anymore, but when it comes to things prohibited such as pagan practices and things which God hates, not just things which were once required, but things He hated and still does, then be careful. God does not change on things like that.
I wish id never got mine and I do have 2 that reference my parents.
Sadly I believe nothing I nor others say will have any influence upon those wanting to mark themselves. Over my 30 yrs Christian I have seen over and over the question asked, but never have I seen the person wanting one realise its wrong. They ask, and reject all opposite advice, and cling to that which affirms their initial question. Its all, if they are honest, about gaining support for their decision to feel more comfortable in making it, doing so.
I make no apologies, iv seen it over and over with the same result every time.
But think, does anyone honestly think a thing practiced by godless cultures, things He clearly spoke against such as in Leviticus, things He abhorred, He now likes to see you do!?

One is ok, 2 can still be ok, from 3 on you need to look for signs of anti social personality disorder.
That was the rule of thumb when I worked in Corrections, the abundance of them today in these times, these last of the last days demonstrates to me the separating of the sheep from the goats, and the way we are either being conformed to the image of the Son or the either one, the good people are getting better, the bad people are getting worse.

Those are all good ideas. Nobody asked me to make a tattoo for them. Id never ask someone either. My parents and siblings dont have tattoos even though its in our culture. Most of my extended family have tattoos and they are mostly sentimental tattoos.

Ive never prayed about it tho so I should do that.
I prayed about it and this is what I was given: Tattoos are distasteful because they’re not perfect; there’s no glory in a tattoo but there’s glory in His creation. However, tattoos are not a sin.

Please let me know what you message you receive after praying.

You wont get any argument from me about who is Lord here. My parents knew it and I know it. I cant say for sure where my parents are right now...we never had that conversation so am I at peace with it? I dont know, God is in control always and so I will keep praying about certain things to hear his voice.

Actually if you can change your mind and have regret, why cant you afford others that same choice? I havent gotten the tattoos, Ive been thinking about it for 6 years. If I was 100% sure I would have already done it now that I am saved. If I wanted support Id go to my Christian extended family who have tattoos. I am here for opinions and that should be okay?
So you cant say you or someone pro tattoo will not have any influence because clearly you have been influenced not to get anymore. And that was fine for you :)

Hi. No, I wasn't influenced at all, so you don't clearly know that. I read and saw what Gods Word says on the matter.
I wont get anymore because God doesn't want us to get them. That's not influence, its obedience.

I understand. That was me 20 years ago. Ive already marred Gods work in other ways, some are regrettable, others I can live with for now.
Good point.

I've done my share of marring other than tattoos for sure!

*Lynx crams a paw in his mouth and walks away quickly... humming to himself a song about a mulberry bush.
Can I say "I told you so" yet, or is it too early?

Tattoo threads never resolve into coherent pictures (pun intended.)

Meanwhile, somebody mentioned that verse about us being temples of God. My pastor, referring to being overweight, said, "I'm building God a double-wide."

There may be a link between influence and obedience.

We have freedom in Christ. So I certainly wouldn’t judge those that got them.

But on a personal level, I simply don’t like them. Even the “tasteful” ones.

I understand some get them for sentimental reasons, but I just don’t get permanently marring God’s beautiful work.
nothing marring about it my eyes .
