I haven't googled the answer, but it is something like this: Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after March 22. So it can fall anywhere in the month following. The mere fact that it is a Sunday means it will always shift a little from year to year.

Merry Christmas, btw! :)

Because it depends on when Good Friday would be placed as well a Easter Sunday, the third day when Christ was risen.

Easter was historically based on the lunar calendars and was meant to coincide with the Sunday following the equinox. The Gregorian calendar has nothing to do with the moon, so we end up with different dates.

Christmas was the result of Emperor Constantine's christianization of the Roman sun god's birthday.

Both holidays came about because newly converted cultures wanted to redefine old pagan holidays while keeping the harmless parts of the traditions.

Hello Maranatha,

A better question is, why is the Easter on a different day than Passover? Jesus was/is who the Passover celebration was pointing to. He is the Passover Lamb and was sacrificed right on time, a couple of hours before sunset, which is when the Passover was to begin. Therefore, wherever the Passover is for Israel, that is where Easter should always be celebrated.

Easter travels around the spring calendar because it follows the Jewish feast of Passover. Passover travels because the ancient Hebrew calendar (which dictates Passover) is based on the lunar cycles rather that the modern calendar which is based on the solar cycle.

What he said............AND because it is a date that can be affirmed............whereas Christmas, December 25th is the date we have chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ.........but it really isn't His actual birth date.......

(my thoughts)

Easter is irrelevant because I don't celebrate it. There's your answer.

Easter Sunday is celebrated because for many that is the day of His resurrection. We call it Resurrection Sunday.

Now, on a personal thingy, while I accept others can do as they wish, I have some concerns with calling people brothers and sisters in Christ who do not celebrate the Birth of Christ or the Resurrection of Christ. That's just me, not my church. I wonder why such people bother to celebrate anything?

Anyway..........

May God richly bless all here in the New Year............
