Yes churches need to be smart with finances. My church shares facilities with the Ethiopian and Hispanic congregations. The Hispanic congregation starts about 30 min after our service. The sound/technology is already set up for them to start service. The Ethiopian service is the same time as our service but they use the large gathering hall/room. We have a joint Easter service. My church is a medium sized traditional building with steeple which I think is nice.

I'm not sure what this reply has to do with someone not being able to find a ride to church. I think it would be better if you read the entire post, that way you are not taking things out of context. Blessings to you.
The "NO EXCUSES ALLOWED YOU MISERABLE SLACKER!" sentiment expressed gives one the impression you would consider anybody a totally reprobate backslider if he skipped church for any reason.

Also the word choices you and oldthennew made were rather harsh. You can say the same thing many ways, and some are better than others at getting your message across without driving people away.

after attending a multitude of churches, i find that they are social clubs that like having thier ears tickled by false comforting doctrines! the Pastors SAY that the bible is true, and that we are to live our lives by it, and that it is Gods rules for the church, etc. yet they do not practice what Jesus commands them to do! (1 Cor 11:3-ff, 1 cor 14:34-ff, 1 Tim 2:9-15. etc) when i point out their sins: they do NOT repent and conform to the scriptures as they should! but rather they kick me out of the church because i am upsetting the scam they are pulling. you see, most church pastors have only two goals: 1. to maintain their position of power and control. 2. to keep as many people as they can in their congregation and keep them tithing! And they teach only feel good messages in order to obtain these two goals! If someone comes into thier scam church, and starts pointing out their sins, they threaten both of these goals! so they get rid of the person, or demonize them as quickly as they can to minimize the damage being done to these goals!

I am still looking for a church that does not do these things! i have not yet found one!

Oooooh, this is gonna be fun!

So Elderdave... Out of all the christians in your general geographic area, you are the single only one with the One True Doctrine? And it is your divinely appointed mission to correct and excoriate the heretical churches in your area?

I find your lack of humility disturbing.

However... it would be entertaining to watch. I mean, ignoring the statistical improbability of you being right, and also ignoring the futility of going around berating churches, it would be quite a show. It's a pity I'm missing the spectacle. I do so love watching a good show.

Maybe you could post a schedule of which church you will be visiting on a given Sunday? A tour calendar of sorts perhaps? Then we could know where to catch the show. You could also mention if the church you are visiting on that day has some sort of admission charge, or if they just take donations.

It might also help to denote which churches sell coffee and donuts, or if a church would allow me to bring my own bag of popcorn, or if maybe some churches on your tour don't allow snacks in the sanctuary at all.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... Elderdave have you tried our Bible Discussion Forum yet? It's chock-full of people who are every bit as eager to argue about the... er, "discuss" the bible and doctrine as you are. You'd be a natural in the BDF. Give it a try! I think you're gonna love it.

Actually, this is not what I have said at all. Again, I implore you to go back and actually read my posts all the way through before you make judgments against them. I would never berate anyone for "not going to church." In fact, if you actually read what I have written, I am diametrically opposed to the way our institutional churches are conducting themselves. But that doesn't mean we can't work with our pastors to do a better job training the individual and making sure we follow the Great Commission.

Unfortunately, this thread has turned into an aggregation of finger-pointing and vitriol.

I'm curious. From Eldrdave's post, how did you draw the conclusion that he is a misogynist?

You mock, but what i say is true! if there are others out there who know these things; i have not yet met them. and probably never will as they have stopped going to church because of these things. the people that attend churches are sheep! and sheep are stupid! if they just read the bible for themselves it would only take a few months before they saw this hypocrisy for themselves. but they never read their bibles! most people in most churches are biblicaly illiterate! and they will remain so because they only read the bible in church. and they believe what the pastor says without any fact checking! they are not like the bereans who listened to what the apostle Paul said, and then went home and searched the scriptures to find out if what they heard is true! they just accept what ever they hear and forget it five minutes after the service has ended. There is no real love for God and His word! they are just religious social clubs that have no interest in persueing righteousness, and holiness!

Mockers like you are never a part of the solution! just another aspect of the problem!

Seriously dude, you will LOVE the Bible Discussion Forum. Give it a try! Lots of people there, and all of them think they are as right as you think you are, and they love excoriation just as much as you.

I’ve always attended a local fellowship. The only time I didn’t want to go was when I was a teen/young adult because I felt like I didn’t belong. BUT I also wasn’t involved in anything and didn’t talk to anyone. Once I became a part of ministry groups (Sunday school, youth ministry, music), I started to talk with others and quickly made friends.

I dont think sheep are stupid, its just goats take over the congregation, so the sheep move elsewhere.

I don't go to a local church because I haven't found one near me that teaches the scripture in depth. All they do is play social games and try to get everyone busy doing community service. That's not what the church is for. So I go to church everyday for an hour by listening to recorded lessons from a great pastor.

I go to a Church when I need peace and quiet commune with God directly. I do not need noisy happy clappy places to do so.
Also I don't need someone to tell me what I should or should not believe. Its all in the Bible and I read the same one as the
person up front. God can communicate with me without using someone else to do it.

I wouldn't want to go to church. And the reason being that I'm extremely anti-social and I don't like being around people....even for a short time. But at least I'm honest about it, right?
Your attitude is in direct conflict with the Gospel of Christ. Hard 2 b a disciple of Christ and live in conflict with Christ.

A million reasons to not go, sadly. And, I'm speaking of belonging to a congregation, not someone being sick 4 a few days.

A million reasons 2 ignore Scripture as well. One reason 2 follow the Gospel.

Amazing how folks can ignore the Gospel and still claim 2 b disciples of Christ. oh well....

I'm sure many more reasons will follow this comment, and the number of those failing 2 obey Christ will grow.

One Body, working together 4 the glory of God.

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

God does not treat us all the same. he has appointed people in his body who are to instruct us in the things of God. to them he reveals his will so that they can impart that knowledge to others. this is one reason that finding a man of GOD to submit too is essential. but there are very few of these people in our churches today.
