Hi Tyler,

Here's a short message on becoming a Christian. You are right that becoming a Christian is the first step of protection.

Good News

Welcome to CC and to the family of God. Your zeal is encouraging. But before you rush into ministry, take some time to acquaint yourself with God. According to John 17:3, eternal life is about knowing God and knowing Jesus. That would include knowing things about them, but moreso, experiencing them. Initially that would include reading your Bible, attending church and studying. Eventually God will make use of you for His kingdom.

"Hope being an expectation or desire for something to take place.
And most likely requires a steadfast commitment, with daily
perseverance.
'An individual relationship with God has the potential of great things.
And make no mistake, God being of spiritual nature, and a spiritual "awareness"
of this truth, being a good starting reality.
'Spiritual harmony in a troublesome world, being a great challenge and not meant
to be easy!

Well....
What skills do you bring to the table?

The means justify the ends.

How you do something is much more important than the end result. Success is God's.

I'm not sure if becoming a Christian will protect you from the evil of the world but it certainly might prepare you to face it and not let it overcome you. Glad to have you onboard with us. Welcome to CC.

I do not mean for this to sound discouraging, but before one comes to Christ, they need to count this cost:

Luke 14:31-32

"Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace."

The Christian life is a spiritual war. If you desire protection from evil, then you will need to put on the spiritual armor which God has provided us with in order to not only endure the battle, but to also win it, or to overcome in the end. You might want to familiarize yourself with what the Apostle Paul wrote along these lines in Ephesians 6:10-17.

As far as your honor is concerned, the Christian life is also a life in which one typically has all manner of evil spoken against them falsely for Jesus' name sake or because of their association with him.

Matthew 5:11-12

"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."

Again, I am not trying to discourage you in the least. Instead, I am merely trying to give you a sort of heads up so that you do not get surprised when these types of situations arise. God's grace is more than sufficient to help you to overcome in all things, so I am definitely not seeking to prepare you for defeat, but merely hoping to help to show you the path to victory in Christ.
Hopefully making a better and more morally right person in the process.
Amen to that.

I do not know what that last part means, but may the Lord bless your time spent here. Not my normal "welcome" message, but, again, I am just trying to let you know that the Christian life is a battle, but a battle that we can win through Christ.

Btw, where serving God is concerned, please consider this:

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular."

Christians are likened to members of a body, and God is the one who "sets the members, every one of them, in the body", or the one who "tempers the body together". In other words, God chooses where he wants us, and what function we are to perform within the body of Christ, or what our ministry is to be. Therefore, my advice to you would be to seek him as to what he would have you to do, and also for the grace that only he can provide to enable you to fulfill your calling.

This is the welcoming thread.:)
Yes, and the one being welcomed is a new believer who, first and foremost, is being welcomed into the body of Christ. Again, do you find it out of place to suggest to such an one as this that he should seek God as to what he wants him to do? His thread title said that he is prepared to serve God in anyway that he can, and I simply gave him some sound biblical advice along those lines which I fully anticipated would rub certain people here the wrong way. That is on you, and not on me. I fully stand behind what I said, and I trust that it is pleasing in God's sight, if not in your sight.

Now, can we not turn this into a debate thread?

Just be careful to teach a little bit at a time, gently, and don’t overload their donkey. Just my 2 cents.
