Rifle cleaning is so labor intensive. I have my sights set on a groundhog in the backyard. What can you do with that?

For groundhog, build a pit fire. Pack groundhog in mud, bury it in coals. Let it cook for a few hours, then dig the mudball out, crack it open. Skin comes off with mudball.

Sorry Tommy, you're on your own with that one.

About the only thing you can do with a groundhog is:

1. Make it into a nice hat, but only if you have a smallish head.

2. Put the little guy outside (preferably while he's still alive) and see if he sees his shadow or not.

Groundhogs don't make for very good eating (er, so I've heard), but they are excellent at predicting the length of a good winter.

Too bad you happened to spot this one in the middle of July.

I was semi-retired for a couple years but now I'm back to working full-time. I pray also that I have plenty of good years left in me also but I really don't want to spend all of them working. Yeah, skip the deep fried fur balls and will settle for some deep fried hush puppies.

Did you learn that in culinary school? I'm trying to up my game in the cooking department and are interesting in the latest food processing techniques.

Theres a restraunt chain in wisconsin called ROADKILL CAFE..theyre really quite popular (but no..no road kill) health dept would shut them down in a hurry! Lol

I remember persnickety quite well. She always treated me with respect and was gracious in her replies to certain posts I would write. Nice peep, I believe that she lived in the province of British Columbia.

Actually that's the recipe for hedgehog. When you crack the mudball, spines get pulled out in the hard mud. But it works for groundhog too.

I hear that. I have plenty to keep me busy. But just tasks that have to be done. Praying for something fulfilling and purposeful. I loved the work I did in the hospitals, till it became red tape bull. People no longer came first.

Anyways, I haven't had a hushpuppy in years. Can't even remember what they taste like. You are correct none of are promised tomorrow. Lord willing you got plenty of years left too☺.

Hushpuppies taste like fried cornbread with onion in them. And if you're lucky, they will have cracked red pepper in them. Yum!

Yea she originally went by "Arwen". She was actually on my facebook years ago but it looks like she's not on there anymore.... unless she unfriended me lol.


...now if I could just remember what I posted in this thread lol... Im too lazy to search through it. :p

I always go for the hushpuppies at the seafood place, but I eat one and I'm done. I don't get it.

Thank you Lynx. I know what they are made of. Kinda why I haven't had any in years. Food allergy to corn. I love corn on the cob and cornbread. Can only have a couple of bits here and there. Maybe a blessing, being a kid I couldn't have any sweets with corn syrup. Thus no real sweet tooth. 😀
