Mat. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

2 Tim. 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one (Jew and Gentile) that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Nice rejection or denial of the truth....what is the WILL of the HEAVENLY FATHER............?

TO BELIEVE on HIM WHOM HE HATH SENT.....but of course you must reject this and insert your own ideology and working for, self saving blather................to the detriment of ALL who read your posts and to your own demise I might add.

Words are never wasted and some reading along will have learned something from the time you put into this.

You should not, however, presume to know what others know or do not know.
Since you're so clear in what BELIEVE means, I'm surprised that you agree with some on this thread since to believe means to trust and obey and we seem to have a problem with the word obey here.
The only problem is your embellishment of faith and denial of the simplicity of the word....and no one has a problem with the word OBEY.....except those who EMBELLISH FAITH with the word OBEY to peddle a false gospel that requires man to HELP in our salvation in some form or fashion..........

Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself.”Ezekiel 3:20-21

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. Hebrews 10:36-39

WHERE SIN abounds, GRACE abounds the more

Thank you, M!! I love it.. so cuteeeeeeeeeee!!!!
You are welcome, Blue :) I made it less cluttered for you ;) Did you see the first one? It seems to be sharper, though I sharpened both of them, so I do not know why the first one seems sharper than the second one, which has the text displaying slightly differently. I am glad you like it (y)

That is NOT what JESUS SAYS. We can KNOW them by their lifestyle characteristics, FRUITS.

Matthew 7:15-16 (NKJV)
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

Matthew 7:20-23 (NKJV)
20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'
23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

If a person believes they will obey. If they don't obey, it is because they don't really believe.

1 Cor. 3:
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

These are not words spoken by the Pope or some religious man, this is the Word of God, and it says I play a part in my own salvation.

Phil. 2:
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

2 Cor. 5:
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Rom. 11:
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Unbelief = Greek "apistia" means "Faithlessness" unfaithfulness (disobedience) :- disbelief. From the word "apisteo" to be unbelieving, disbelieve, or by implication to disobey:- to believe not.

"Because of unbelief (Disobedience) they were cut off.

Same for those "Christians" in Matt. 7 that the Christ warns us about.

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Iniquity Greek - "anomia" means illegality, violation of law or wickedness:- transgress the law, unrighteousness. from the word "anomos" means lawless, not subject to (jewish) law (by implication a gentile), or wicked:- without law, lawless, transgressor, unlawful, wicked.

GG 101 is not embellishing at all, she is doing what the Christ tells ALL His people to do. "Live by EVERY WORD of God".

But if a person doesn't "believe" the Word of God which became Flesh, then they won't obey the Word of God which became Flesh, just like the Mainstream Preachers of Christ's time.

Do you believe that weeds grow in the same kinds of soil (heart) where the good seeds were sown? If you do, were you saved the moment you believed despite the presence of weeds or do you leave salvation to the hands of our merciful and loving God come judgment day when He will judge the living and the dead?

Revelation 21:7-8 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

SOIL IS THE CONDITION OF THE HEART or Human Spirit.
Rocky Soil and Thorny Soil are the Type of Soil that WILL NOT PRODUCE A HARVEST.
YES, they All go to Church (they are still not saved), Most of them have Been Baptized in WATER (they are still not saved),
and if your church uses the Apostles Creed, they recite it from memory (they are still not saved)

BUT NEVER HAVE BEEN BORN AGAIN AND BAPTIZED BY THE BY THE HOLY SPIRIT INTO THE BODY OF CHRIST (NOW THEY ARE SAVED).
NOW THEY HAVE IN INNER PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS AND THE KNOW HIM.

Why do people under the NEW covenant of GRACE like to place themselves UNDER the OLD covenant of DEATH......

WHERE SIN abounds, GRACE abounds the more
Rom. 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, (Transgress God's Commandments) that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

"God forbid" means NO Decon.

Heb. 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

According to the Bible it is the manner in Which God's instructions are administered, and the manner in which sins are forgiven, that distinguishes the difference between to old and new covenants. There is nothing about the elimination of God's definition of sin, in fact, it implies that He will write HIS Laws on our hearts so will never forget them, not erase them from our hearts.

Who on this this forum is suggesting we find a Levite Priest and give him a goat to sacrifice for our sins? That is the old covenant way of atoning for sins. Who has ever implied we should return to that?

What are you even talking about?

Agreed. For some people, receiving Christ through faith may take place on their death bed with no opportunity to get water baptized, receive communion or accomplish acts of charity, yet they will still be saved through authentic faith in Christ.

I agree that as Christians, we are to show charity and "keep" (Greek word - "tereo" - watch over, guard, keep intact) His commandments (1 John 2:3-4) and do the will of the Father. Also, there is a difference between doing God's will IN ORDER TO BECOME SAVED: John 6:40 - For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

*AND*

Doing God's will AFTER WE HAVE BEEN SAVED: 1 Thessalonians 5:14 - Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Yes, we are saved through faith apart from works. So how much disobedience does it take? That sounds like "type 2 works salvation." From beginning "have been saved through faith" (Ephesians 2:8) to end "receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls" (1 Peter 1:9) salvation is by grace through faith and is not by works (Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9 etc..).

That same Roman Catholic made the same argument you are making here and he directed me to John 3:36 in the NASB - He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Now in regards to "does not obey the Son" in the New American Standard translation of the Bible, this does not mean that receiving eternal life is received based on the merits of our obedience/works which follows believing in the Son, but obey by choosing to believe in the Son. If John wanted to make obedience the central theme in salvation here, then he would have said: "He who believes and obeys the Son has eternal life," but that is not what John said. To obey the Son here is to choose to believe in the Son.

The King James Version renders this same verse as: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that "believeth not the Son" shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. The NIV says "rejects the Son" and the CSB says, "refuses to believe in the Son." The Greek word translated as "believeth not" in that verse is "apeitheo" which means: "not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving." Strong’s definition of apeitheo is "to disbelieve willfully and perversely." In the context of 3:36, to "not obey the Son" means to reject the Son by refusing to believe in the Son.

Amen! Have faith in, trust in. (y)

To DO is the fruit of believing (works), but not the essence of believing. If you were standing at the gates of heaven right now and Jesus Christ asked you why He should let you into heaven, what would be your exact answer? Would your answer go something like this? "Because I did my best to obey and follow you?" OR "because I trusted in you as the ALL-sufficient means of my salvation?" Or maybe a "combination of both?"

Now I don't mean to interrogate you, but I am trying to get to the heart of the issue here. :)
MMD, We pretty much agree. You just don't like my wording or the word MUST.
IF we're truly depending on Jesus for our salvation, why would ANY word bother us?
We MUST obey, then if we do or not is a totally different question. We won't be perfect till we die.

As to your question... NO ONE here that I've read so far says that we're saved by works.
And my answer would be:
"because I trusted in you as the ALL-sufficient means of my salvation?"

So does this mean I MUST NOT obey God?
No.
So where's the disconnect? There is none.

Yep and LOVE and TRUTH go hand in hand......they are SISTERS......you cannot have ONE without the other and no offence, but his false gospel portrays NEITHER...........nor does a gospel that peddles a salvation that can be lost or must be maintained by man like a car needing the oil changed every xxxx thousand miles.......
Yeah. Problem is that you used a bad analogy...
We MUST change the oil in our cars every now and then or they die.

Good. You know how to use a Greek lexicon.

Mathew 7:23
23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Jesus said that those who practice lawlessness will be lost.
To practice lawlessness means that we do not obey God.
The lawless do not obey God.

I fear that YOU are peddling a false gospel.
And while we're here, do this....
Find out if the concept of salvation as we know it today was present in Jesus' time or if it's a new idea which started in the 1,500's.
Find out if Jesus cared more about your "salvation" or if He cared more about your entrance into the Kingdom of God here on earth.

How do you get in?
How do you get to stay there?

You seem pretty well-versed; I'm sure you could find out the above on your own.

Yours is a very beautiful thought.
However, when GOD speaks, He does not make requests.
IF we're saved, we MUST obey God.
It could be from love, and it should be from love.

What if He tells us not to do something we want to do?
Do we love Him enough to listen?
So, does this mean we NEVER sin?

We DO sin. So how do YOU explain that?

We MUST obey God---whether or not we do is a different matter.

THERE IS NO "LOVE HIM ENOUGH".

YOU EITHER LOVE HIM TOTALLY, FIRST AND FOREMOST, ABOVE YOUR SPOUSE EVEN, OR YOU DO NOT LOVE HIM.

When are you going to believe HIS WORDS?

John 14:15 (HCSB)
15 If you love Me, you will keep My commands.

That word LOVE is in the Greek Present Tense, implying it will NEVER END.

That Word WILL KEEP, is in the Aorist Tense a Continuous Action Tense, implying an action that You will ALWAYS STRIVE TO KEEP.

Are we PERFECT AT IT? NO. But that is why 1 John 1:9 was written and CONFESS is in the Perfect TENSE, imply that is an ongoing Lifestyle we WILL KEEP, and therefore we Confess it as Sin, and get back up and CONTINUE TO LOVE HIM, by striving to KEEP HIS COMMANDS.

Your first line says it all.

Also, I'd like to post the following for anyone who cares to understand about the Greek words BELIEVE and OBEY.

Chapter 26 John 3:16 Obeying Unto Christ Saves? (Part One)
Introduction
When the English translations of the Greek New Testament were made in the 1526-1611 period, the “difficult Greek in which the New Testament is written...still held mysteries for” English scholars. (Nicolson: 224.) One of those mysteries was the Greek word pisteuo in John 3:16. In over 200 instances of pisteuo in the New Testament, not once did the King James Bible render it as obey. (See Strong’s Concordance.) However, scholars now realize obey was a common meaning of pisteuo in ancient Greek. Obey certainly was the meaning of pisteuo in John 3:36 (See Part 2, JWOS: 448). Yet, this obedience-salvation formula is identically repeated in John 3:16.

Besides John 3:36 helping, one can more easily accept pisteuo means obeys in John 3:16 when one looks at Apostle John’s many quotes of Jesus about obedience. Jesus in John 8:51 says “whoever keeps on obeying (tereo) My Teaching should never ever die.”1 In John 15:1-10, Jesus says a “branch in me” that does not “bear fruit” is “taken away,” “cut off from the vine,” thrown “outside and burned.” 2

John likewise quoted Jesus saying in total accord:

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good [things], unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil [things], unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29KJV).3

part 2 of 2

See also “John 8:51: Obedience Should Save” on page 367 et seq. See “Metaphor Of The Vine” on page 343 et seq.

We saw again that Apostle John was told that those who obey the commandments (plural) have the right to the tree of life. (Rev. 22:14.) John writes:

Happy [are] the ones doing His commandments, so that their right will be to the tree of life, and they shall enter by the gates into the city. (Rev 22:14)(ALT)(GSB)4

We also saw Apostle John writing Jesus’ words to the Sardisian Christians. They are dead due to having “incomplete works.” They can prevent the Spirit leaving by repenting and obeying. Through John’s pen, Jesus tells them:

And to the angel of the assembly in Sardis write: ‘These [things] says the One having the seven spirits of God and the seven stars [i.e., Jesus is speaking]: I know your works, that you have a name that you live, and you are dead.

(2) ‘Become watching [fig., Wake up], and strengthen the rest which you were about to be throwing out, for I have not found your works having been completed before My God. (3) Therefore, be remembering how you have received, and be keeping [tereo, obey] it, and repent. Therefore, if you will not watch, I will come upon you like a thief, and you shall by no means know what hour I will come upon you.” (Rev 3:1-3 ALT)(Wycliff "works...full")5

John another time relays Jesus as saying that lukewarm works by Christians at Laodicea will cause Jesus to spew them out of His mouth.

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. (16) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Rev 3:15-16 KJV.)

Finally, we saw among the many verses that tied eternal life (zoe ainon) to obedience and works was the following words of Jesus recorded by Apostle John:

He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. (26) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor. (John 12:25-26 ASV.)

These passages from the writings of John quoting Jesus are but echoes of what we find in Matthew, Luke and Mark. John is repeatedly emphasizing themes of obedience.

Hence, besides John 3:36, these passages from John make the proposed translation of John 3:16 as about obedience appear far more sensible than translation tradition would suggest. This change, incidentally, will unite what scholars call the Synoptic-Jesus with the Johannine Jesus. It turns out there are no separate portrayals of Jesus in the mind of Matthew-Mark-Luke versus the mind of John. Rather, the translators haveimproperly given Jesus two doctrines and two personalities by erroneously translating John 3:16 in a manner which suits cheap grace doctrine to leave uncorrected.

However, we shall see that the leading evangelical scholars who dared write on this question begrudgingly admit pisteuo means obey in John 3:16. It is only the translators who, for some inexplicable reason, continue to hesitate to make this now compellingly-obvious correction.

Three Interpretive Issues
John 3:16 is the most commonly cited passage from Jesus to prove one is saved by faith alone. This faith is usually described as believing that Jesus is Lord and Savior. Or sometimes it is said that you must simply believe that Jesus died for your sins. (Stanley, Spurgeon.) Sometimes it is said you must also believe that Jesus resurrected.

Whatever is the belief one must hold to be saved, typically it is also claimed John 3:16 conveys the idea of a onetime belief. In fact, Charles Stanley in Eternal Security (1995) at 95 says the verb believes in the standard translation implies a one-time belief (that Christ died for your sins, id., at 33-34). Hence, such a one-time belief is supposedly all that you need to be saved. Therefore, it is allegedly irrelevant whether one repents from sin or not. Stanley says it is a good idea to change, but it only improves your fellowship with God. The Lord will supposedly save the disobedient believer anyway based on faith alone.

In fact, Stanley says your salvation is such a foregone conclusion once you sincerely believe Christ died for your sins that even if you for all practical purposes were later an unbeliever in thought and deed, your salvation is never in jeopardy: “Even if a believer for all practical purposes becomes an unbeliever, his salvation is not in jeopardy.” (Stanley, Eternal Security, supra, at 93.) Salvation is supposedly by faith alone, from start to finish.

However, there are three defects in the popular English translation of the original Greek which in turn feed these interpretations of the verse. (These defects also appear in the German Luther Bible of 1522.) The correction of these defects turn on answering these three questions:

Does the verb pisteuo translated in English as believes in the KJV meanbelieve or instead obey, comply, trust, etc.?

Is it pisteuo “in” Jesus or “for (unto)” Jesus” in the original Greek?

Is the verb form taken for pisteousin translated in the KJV as believes(the English simple present tense) instead in Greek a continuous tense meaning? In other words, is the meaning keeps on or continues to in front of whatever the verb means for pisteuo, i.e., keeps on obeying, etc., or keeps on believing?

Two of these three issues are readily apparent if you compare common translations of John 3:16, in particular the bolded portions below, on the left with those on the right.

So many Greek scholars here.
How many initials do you have after your name??

Bye.
