I am now an assistant coach for a group of girls between the grades 6-8. I am more of a substitute as it is a husband and wife team doing the bulk of the coaching for the A, B and C teams. I am just filling in the blanks, so to speak. I tell you what, though, it is so fun and rewarding, but also challenging.
My skill sets in the way of volleyball and leadership are definitely requiring patience from the head coach. My learning curve in both areas are quite rusty.
Finding the balance between having fun but not chaos requires consistency and boundaries. If just a couple of the young gals refuses to listen, or insists on their own way, disruption runs a muck.
This morning, I started reflecting on the body of Christ as a team. Christ is the head coach and the Holy Spirit the assistant coach, both are One working to guide, instruct and help each team member and the team as a whole.
The team members are not without accountability; they need to show up, ready to work, well nourished and hydrated, all while sporting cheerfulness and an eagerness to co-operate a team.
Team activities are really a blessing, in that they teach us that it isn't all about ourselves. We each matter individually, but together even more so.
As members of the blood bought family of God, we are a community. We are not just alone with Jesus in our walks. We have been given one another, to love one another, to care for and help each other. Don't you agree that we ought to be cognizant of the team component as to not take our focus off the end goal as a community, pointing to Our Leader in all that we do, think and say?
