gluttony is sin, eating is not.
Incorrect. For the Bible, speaking of "temperance", has three categories:

[1] green light (allowed normally, still exceptions as Paul states, that not at all times are all things always expedient)
[2] yellow light (allowed, but not too much - honey, flesh of clean (temporary allowance))
[3] red light (never allowed, such as eating flesh of porcine)

Alcohol is the third category, even as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was:

Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

His creation? God created Jack Daniels? 😂
previously discussed how that grapes left completely to themselves become wine, even on the vine.

yeast is a living thing. God created them, and they have a purpose.

she has been through 3 major surgeries with no pain medicine other than corn liquor.
Do you realize that Cayenne (medical grade) pepper is a pain reliever and shuts off the nerve connections, numbing them? Do you realize that also hot/cold water can also be used in such an way?

my wife is allergic to opiates & ibuprofen.

we thank God for it. @withoutreason accuses her of sin for what she thanks God for, and now you accuse her of drunkenness.

i am thinking 'pretty cool' in a sarcastic tone of voice
Has she tried cbd? Seriously. It did help give me relief through chemo treatments without the thc.

Many things that God made will harm you or even kill you. We shouldn’t consume them.

Why would a believer want to touch or look at something that could destroy their family, quickly? Why play with a rattlesnake? It is well known the destruction it causes every year. Nobody starts out wanting to be a drunk. Everyone starts out in “moderation.”
There was someone who joined a water-drinking contest. Drink a whole gallon of water in a certain, short period of time and win a prize. Their stomach ruptured and they died.

So why would you drink water if it could kill you?

How many people does sugar kill in a year? How many people eat too much meat and french fries and die from heart attacks?

Is it a sin to drink water, have a tea spoon of sugar in your tea, or to eat meat or french fries?

We know specifically from scripture that one may consume wine. It is clearly allowed. Wine and strong drink offerings were even to be made to the Lord. Viewing them as evil substances is not in line with the Bible.

We also know that early Christians used 'real wine' in their meetings. Paul said that one man was hungry and another was drunken in Corinth. He does not rebuke them for using wine. The problem was in the extremes, not feeding one man, and the other drinking to excess instead of a reasonable amount for the purposes in question.

I saw a hunting show that said porcupines were supposed to taste good. It doesn't appeal to me, and it seems like a lot of trouble. But I've got food in the cabinet.

I always wanted to try some raw seal blubber after watching a whole family of eskimoes pass it around .. They were ''into it'' while papa cut it up ..

Paul said that one man was hungry and another was drunken in Corinth.
Read the context of Corinthians, and Paul was not advocating what they were doing. He in fact stated that they were doing it all wrong. The cup of blessing, was given at Passover (no leaven was to be present). The letter to the Corinthians showed what not to be doing. It was a bad example, that needed correction.

"For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you." (vs 19)
"... this is not to eat the Lord's supper. ..." (vs 20)
"... What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not." (vs 22)

Did you see the connection to 'drunken" (alcohol) and "heresies"?

Notice the word "examine" (vs 28), and someone under the influence of even a little alcohol, cannot properly 'examine' rightly.

Notice, many were doing this wrongly, and causing weakness, sickeness and even death (all of which alcohol does):

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
1Co 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
Gentiles were treating the Lord's supper like a bacchanal.

everything He created is good, everything He made has it's purpose and its time. man has cleverly devised ways to abuse them all.

I posted on this earlier. Christ said 'the scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do...'

The Jewish authorities did not want leaven in the wine. Therefore, it had to be complete fermented so the yeast would die and could be sloughed off the top of the wine. Wine that was not completely fermented was not considered kosher for Passover. In the 20th century, some of their authorities, falsely called 'rabbis' have approved certain processed nonfermented grape juice, but not in the first century. They did allow mixing with several parts water. Children drank as well.

Jesus had the Passover with His disciples too, and drank of the 'fruit of the vine.' Do you think he drank unkosher grape juice?

No, I don't see a connection between their heresies (divisions) and wine, except they weren't sharing the wine and others were over drinking. Paul does not rebuke them for using 'real wine.'

Notice the word "examine" (vs 28), and someone under the influence of even a little alcohol, cannot properly 'examine' rightly.
If you had a small quantity of alcohol, especially if it were diluted, that would not be the case.

They weren't sharing with one another and weren't waiting for one another to eat. The sin was not that their wine was 'real wine.'

WithinReason,

Do you think Paul taught against deacons being given to much Welch's grape juice?
