We will be okay. It isn't a war over masks as already explained. It is the hypocrisy and government overreach. Most places and people were happy to comply with masks despite the hypocrisy. But 1918 isn't the same world as today. Churches are not just being forced to close but shut down, face fines, imprisonment, and some churches have been set on fire or had someone drive their car into the worship area.
You say individualism but I say unique as our country was built on the rights of the individual. God given rights. A rally this weekend will be going on in California were many pastors will be joining their congregations to resist the governors orders.
Our country was built to prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery. Freedom isn't for the faint of heart. It involves responsibility on the people to govern themselves. As to why law cannot be made in less it goes through the people's elected officials. Governors, judges or presidents cannot make mandates that violate others rights under the Constitution.

Without some social cohesion... extreme individualism will only lead to the deterioration of that society as being presently evidenced .....history repeats and repeats.
