I'm telling you... get all socks of one color for each family member and you'll never have the problem again.

I've done this for myself. A real time saver as there is now no need to sort socks or finding a match for one in case the dryer eats the other one.

evryone should just wear purple cloth, just be all one colour.
In the islands, all you need to wear is a rectangular cloth and tie it round your body. No sewing required. Its easier to wash as well, and nobody wears socks at all.

In colder countries they can just grow their hair long and wear a blanket, but I am guessing they still need socks.

I threw out a single sock, my favourite, after a couple of years. When I moved house, I found the other sock under the washing machine. Now I know where they like to hide. I put all my socks in a washbag. They can't undo the zip so they cannot escape. It works, unless I forget to close the zip. So far, I've not lost a sock.
A WASHBAG!!!!!

WHY didn't I ever think of that??????? Sounds so much simpler than what I have (attempted) been doing all these years...... matching them BEFORE washing then safety pin them together. Somehow the safety pin comes undone in the wash and then they STILL end up mismatched (assuming I matched them right to begin with  ) or missing.

When my kiddos were tiny tots we went with the character socks in hopes that it would help keep them from pulling their socks off at random times ( car rides, shopping, etc) but wouldn't you know it, they kept pulling them off anyway. SO, I started playing matchmaker with the single socks. Left foot would host Batman, right foot would host Robin... it worked.
Now I find "sets" in the store that are INTENTIONALLY mismatched and EXPENSIVE............... $5 for 2 MAYBE 3 pairs of socks that INTENTIONALLY have a design on the left foot with a different design for the right. It HAD to be a parent who marketed this.

That happens EVERY TIME I finally toss a sock! It mysteriously reappears!
I tell you what, as my kiddos outgrew those character socks or wore them till they were full of holes I started tossing them out. When we moved a few years ago I was SURE they had ALL been discarded. So why is it that it's been 3 1/2 years since we moved, my kiddos are now tweens, or nearly a tween, nobody has been able to wear them in years and yet random tiny tot size character socks are showing up in my house?????? The mates to sad, lonely socks that I KNOW were worn to shreads and tossed out long ago????? And not only that, but these random missing socks that are suddenly appearing are in like new condition  . WHERE are they coming from????

I'm telling you... get all socks of one color for each family member and you'll never have the problem again.
this is a genius idea!!!!
There for a while I thought I could eliminate the missing sock problem by buying one mega sized pack of socks for my boys.
Since hubs wears white socks, sis wears girly girl designs, and I opt for ankle cut length or shorter I thought SURELY buying the boys a bunch of black socks would solve all (their) sock delimas...... IT WORKED!!!!! Until one had a growth spurt and his little feet were suddenly to big to share socks with his bro........

Now were back to character socks  to know which pair belongs to who.

my parents still wear socks with holes in them
I can tell which ones are mine because mine dont have holes. Also I wear different type of socks from them.

I do try to keep them together by tucking them up when I take them off and putting them away. But there is always the odd sock out. Even when I try to buy them all the same colour.

solution, wear stockings/tights/pantyhose and they are joined at the the top. Or onesies. Though that only works during winter.

Onsies? Like...a garment a baby wears? Or...I'm assuming onsie means something different in NZ? 🤔

yea they make them for adults too. They come with feet already.

Though I dont wear them. I will wear woolly stockings/tights in winter underneath pants or skirts/dresses though.

So,

This is what we call or think of as "onesies" in the US:

and typically what we see that have feet are pajamas. Hence the name "footed pajamas"

(hey, my kiddos lived in these when they were itty bits, it really did help alleviate the pulling off their socks at random times, and losing them problem ;) )

um
onesies are footed pjs are anything that come with feet, I suppose some people might call them jumpsuits cos you. just jump into them, But they did have feet attached so you dont need socks.

well thats what I meant by onesies.
and some of them come with hoods and a lot of them look like animals. with ears and tails too even.

Though I have never seen anyone wear them in public if they werent in a parade....

oh actually, not all the adult ones seem to come with feet attached, but they had to have matching feet otherwise, the outfit would be all wrong! Ok my bad

maybe just wear stockings/tights instead

perhAps only ladies of a certain age remember what garters were. I imagine if you lost those, your socks or hose would have totally not stayed up.

but now through the wonders of modern technology, you dont need rubber bands around your thighs.
