I think that for hundreds of years man has tried to improve on the ways of the Lord.

God said do not murder, and Christ gave instructions about what God considers murder, yet man has often murdered in Christ’s eyes when there are differences in scripture interpretation.

Constantine started this off when he made what he labeled heresy a criminal act.

Before that, Christians agreed on core instructions from Christ alone, interpreted by the apostles. They made sure they took no instructions except from men directly trained by Christ. They argued with those who strayed, but let them be, otherwise.

Man has even improved on our food, processing and redoing our food, and thinking they would improve on what God provided for us. We have immune systems that can’t handle viruses, as a result.

It has become a necessary study to learn when and how men have decided to improve on the words of the Lord. We need to eliminate the improvements and keep to the pure words of the Lord.

No one needs to know any language to have received the Holy Spirit to teach.
Something that all can do in this age of click-and-learn is when wondering about the name of a person or place in the Word we are afforded the wonderful gift of searching the word for its history (etymology>) For example, I wonder what Bethlehem would mean if translated and not simply transliterated.
It means house of Bread. Gee, that emphasizes the Bread from Heaven having been born there...
Try it and you will truly enjoy your reading more than ever. I do.

indeed , there is a source where it all began with man trying to change what God said

“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:16-17, 25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

but then

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:4-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that’s what false doctrine is designed to do turn us away from what keeps us unashamed in Gods presence His word spoken over us and believed by us .

notice how it all changed but what changes was mans perception of Gods true word , now they fear his word and hide from it . Because they have done what he told them is death .

Remember how he did this in the beginning after they did that ?

“So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it still hasn’t changed at this point

“Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then we shall die.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

but Jesus came to change how we hear and perceive his word rather than death he is declaring this

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:25, 27-30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And believers can now do this tether than hide in fear

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I agree with every word you posted the world is always offering alternatives to the truth but we understand where that is all sourced . If we could learn to trust in Jesus and his word and not be dragged away by the alternatives we’re going to have eternal life in his presence

adam put us in a bind and man became blind to Gods word and open to the worlds words that are sourced in the wrong place God has come to undo what Satan caused and turn us again to the truth of Gods word of life and blessing

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So the serpent still speaks to the same intent to make us afraid to hear the word of God and believe

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:2-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Why do you say Constantine started making heresy a criminal act, when death was decreed by God upon those who disobeyed His commandments? Before Constantine came on the scene, there were many false teachers, who were present when the apostles were still alive; the apostles spent time trying to counter the misunderstandings and falsehoods, even among themselves.

To answer the OP question. Of course we have.

And for generations. Now we've arrived at a point unlike in past history wherein we are even more able to play God.

Human cloning is illegal in America.

There are countries that have technology at their disposal that can change the weather , climate.
There is technology that can alter the electrical currents in the brain and effect mood and behavior in any living thing that has a cerebral cortex.

And those in that circle that know all this and more, because by the time such information reaches the public, that which is contained in the information has been active in secret for years, are already on to the next stage of evolution in secret.

And we look to colonize other planets. And make space travel as easy as driving cross country now.

There is a copy of the law Constantine made to outlaw heresy. You are so correct that before Constantine there were heresies such as the Gnostics and Areanism. These were argued against by the church of the apostle, but after Constantine the new church he established fought them with swords.

The church of the apostles was very united in their core beliefs, they operated as a group but they allowed differences in interpretation of scripture verses. It was a church of Christian living rather than a church of christian doctrine. They felt very protective of the pure words of Christ, allowing no one to add or take away from them. This information is found in the writings of the church leaders of that time.

Isn't it a wonder and such a blessing that all that is needed for eternal life is understanding that Christ can manage it for us when we repent of our sins and turn to Him!!

may be bless each of us from earth to far away who will turn and look upon his glory that our pitiful face may reflect it , if imperfectly , to the world who needs a light in darkness

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:3-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

But they didn't kill them.

Constantine Enacts a Law against all Heresies, and Prohibits the People from Holding Church in any Place but the Catholic Church, and Thus the Greater Number

But what do we know of the "words of the Lord" when we are not Jews?

And the copies of copies that we do have that wereu much of the time in fragments, and all of which, those approved copies that became our new testament were written as much of 50 years and much more, after Jesus.

When, there are huge numbers of
Books not approved for us that alo pertain to the teaching of our Lord.

What does the race of our parents have to do with the truth of the Lord? God speaks truth, not how to be prejudiced.

The best books about the teaching of our Lord are those written by the apostles. The word apostle means taught by the person of Christ, as the twelve were. Paul is an apostle although he did not know Christ in the flesh because God took him to Arabia for three years and Christ appeared to him there. Since the age of the apostles man has not reported pure scripture but personal interpretations of scripture like Luther and Calvin.

You are correct, no one is absolutely sure of the author of the gospels. what is written of the church in the first 300 years is of special importance because they were written before the church changed many of their beliefs. The change happened when Rome took over management of the church that had been only under the management of the words of Christ.
