church fathers ? I agree I may have mistyped something that happens sometimes but no there’s one father I agree

as for the rest yes I’ve read those scriptures and love prophecy now that I understand it’s witness
Of Christ

not sure what your point is can you clarify ?
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep.
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1

There are no church fathers - this error comes from the Nicolitians (later to become catholicism)
JESUS said: But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Revelation

Our Lord Jesus Christ was always with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness,

Our Lord revealed Himself to His Chosen Elect ones - Ephesians 1:5
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love

In Scripture there is one passage that tells us where all the religious mess comes from.

Now we know that all lies come from the Serpent/theDevil/Satan.
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44

Now this is the spiritual source of all error - but this is not the physical source which is proclaimed in Scripture.

How about you try to understand my point (which was made long before you addressed me) before you complain that I don't understand yours?
Do you understand now? The reader needs to determine which bits of the gospels are directive for ALL Christians, and which are specific to a certain time/place/audience.

The problem is I do understand your point! That is exactly why I answered your very first post in this thread. I didn't complain that you misunderstand my post. I said you missed the whole point of the discourse Jesus had with the Pharisees. And why it is documented for us the church to read and learn from (what is that whole discourse teaching us). Rather than your view that it is a directive to Jews therefore not for the church (for what is being here refer to #109)

Do you understand now? The reader needs to determine which bits of the gospels are directive for ALL Christians, and which are specific to a certain time/place/audience.
Is that how you study the gospels you look for directives? and who decides which''directives" is for christians?

You miss the whole point of the gospels if you are searching just for directives! As I mentioned, within the gospels (Narratives, discourses, parables) there are descriptive texts and prescriptive texts (not just directives) and they all teach the church.

Your getting a little confused regarding hermeneutics . When you come to the text you ask, first, what is this text, is it discourse, a parable or narrative etc, then you ask who is talking to who, where is this situated in redemptive history, how did that relate to those initially involved, what is the lesson, and then you draw the meaning for you today (not necessarily in that order).

You don't get to pick and choose what you may or may not think is for the church, sifting the gospels for directives.. All of it is for teaching the church. Again Luke tells us this very thing (Luke 1:1ff).

Must be my mistake, for i thought read in the opening about church fathers - oh well, i'm take that one on me-lol

No wasted time however - here is the passage i wanted to share with you - this is the human source of ALL error in the churches.

Keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number, men will rise up and distort the truth to draw away disciples after them.
Therefore be alert and remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. Acts 20

There are no church fathers -

We have BETTER -
His Word, the HOLY SPIRIT and JESUS our High Priest who is seated at the Right Hand of God forever making intercession on our behalf.
Amen

consider when people are insisting on Paul’s letters being everything , what they really are saying about Jesus
who does that?

certainly not anyone with credible understanding of the Bible

Whether you like it or not, the Church Fathers are an established group of Christian writers, who were also church leaders and/or theologians. They had many good things to say, but they also included many errors in their writings. We all can learn much from the writings of the Early Church Fathers (ECF). provided their writings are always checked against Scripture (the Word of God). Unfortunately, some denominations have elevated them to a level above that which is appropriate.

haha it happens to us all brother sorry I was confused there a bit

I agree indeed those false doctrines work hard to draw people into a different discipleship because there’s only one source of eternal life

You just can’t resist insulting people huh? You should stop wasting your time on us simpletons who can’t grasp your amazing logic of why the gospel isn’t actually for us
Telling you that you're tilting at windmills is not insulting you. It's stating, by metaphor, that the goal of your efforts is misguided.

I said nothing whatsoever about the gospel not being for us. As you still don't understand me, and feel quite free to distort what I am saying (in spite of you complaining previously about me distorting your words... I'm so shocked at your hypocrisy) and as you clearly don't want to understand me, I leave you to your chosen ignorance.

yeah I don’t personally follow what is established after the gospel and the apostles end in scripture too much is based on man after that point

but I’m not disparaging your belief I’m saying I don’t think that it should be alright with you because if I’m somehow wrong about that God will deal with me one way or the other

Several do it it’s actually one of the most popular theologies around . And was sort of the point of posting the idea that the 4 gospels weren’t something written before the church began or were only to Jews they have many many arguments for Paul being the source of the gospel and bat the gospel Jesus preached isn’t for The church

you can find a couple of those arguments in this thread

it stems from people like who wrote this article

You will notice the deception because I know what you believe from reading your posts , it’s clever yet see what you think , this is one of the e most popular teachings right now

I think a lot have forgotten what it took to be free from Constantine's take over. I think people have forgotten what it means to be protestant!

I begin to understand the misapplied and misunderstood posts you create from time to time, so much better now :cautious:

I guess then, that this verse, found in II Timothy 3:16, is not something you would consider

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

I cannot condone how you say you take the Bible though. kind of like a buffet where you only take something you have already had and pass over most else. nothing after the gospels? really?

I'll check out the link later and get back

one and it remains the exact same as when Jesus began to preach it
That's not the correct answer. It appears that you didn't read the question closely enough. Here it is again:

Among the books of the Bible, how many are gospels?

I thought you were going to leave me to my ignorance ? I’d prefer you did that the circles aren’t going anywhere

but peace and good will
