to be clear, I do not believe the Bible teaches this, let alone that a person born on this earth can reach sinlessness

where do we read that those men were sinless? I think you are extrapolating here. you just said ALL Christians are a work in progress...is it all then, or most?

In the ot there was a sin of ignorance, and instructions of how to approach the priest for committing that sin of ignorance.

I think some people see us as walking precariously over the flames of hell on a skinny 2x4 with Jesus wiggling the board for us to fall.

we should not teach that one cannot be perfect. I've been told,,,,Jesus has told many to be perfect.

We have that perfection as a target.

Do you realize when Jesus ushered in the new covenant, he established sinful thoughts as just as bad as sinful actions?

and there are various reasons for it....one big one being BIG lack of proper teaching and ignoring any spiritual factors

so are these people saved? some are in agony with sin cycle and yes they are saved...not talking about those with a casual approach to Christianity

changing the mind is not really a biblical term. the actual description in scripture would be 'renewing them mind', meaning to agree with the word and acting that out. an interesting study for some might be to check out how habits are formed and the fact that a person can create better habits following that pattern

but Christians also have a big advantage with the indwelling Spirit of God and the ability to pray

I agree with everything you said actually, but to be precise I think "changing the mind" is Biblical and here's why.

The definition of repentance being a "renewing of the mind" is valid because that is what happens when someone changes their mind, that's repentance. See Matt 3:2, Acts 2:38, 2 Cor. 12:21 for examples.

In the New Testament the word for repentance is a verb "μετανοέω" which means change one's mind and purpose; e.g., I repent, change my mind, change the inner man (particularly with reference to acceptance of the will of God), repent.

My point is, that changing the mind (or renewing it if you prefer) is about as far as people ever get. I am 100% in complete agreement with God and His plan for salvation and I agree with Him that what He says is a sin is, in fact, a sin. I have no doubt that you agree with God, too. We have repented, then. Will we keep on sinning again and again? Yes absolutely.

My point is, that changing the mind (or renewing it if you prefer) is about as far as people ever get.
