One thing I've thought on these lines - How is it that God spoke seemingly directly to His people and not today? Also - did He speak only to His "anointed" ones (Moses, Abraham, etc.), or did His other adherents hear Him?
Do His chosen ones today hear Him in the way people in the OT did?
What about the likes of Paul? - he seemed to "get a lot" from the Lord. How did God communicate with him?
I wondered about hearing God also.

I was given a prayer shawl, I use it to cover me, after I pray for the Lord to speak to me. Then I cover myself with the shawl to close out all the world and to be alone with the Lord as I listen to Him. I have never heard God speak in words, but it brings a feeling of well being, of God being with me and of power of the Lord. The shawl helps me listen.

One of the ways God speaks to believers according to Acts 2 is through other Spirit-filled believers.
14But Peter, taking his stand with the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, [n]know this, and pay attention to my words. 15For these people are not drunk, as you assume, since it is only the [o]third hour of the day; 16but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17‘AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,’ God says,
‘THAT I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL [p]MANKIND;
AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY,
AND YOUR YOUNG MEN WILL SEE VISIONS,
AND YOUR OLD MEN WILL [q]HAVE DREAMS;
18AND EVEN ON MY MALE AND FEMALE [r]SERVANTS
I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT IN THOSE DAYS,
And they will prophesy.

Yet this is a conundrum to the modern church. They say they believe the Bible, yet many don't believe this at all.
ALL of God's people are supposed to be prophets as this scripture plainly says.
God has always been a good transmitter of His will to the church, but because of the hardness of our hearts we have become poor receivers.
Because of this, we also miss out on dreams & visions, as well as being God's transmitter to the world.
If God's word is eternal & forever established as He says it is, why don't we believe this?

how can we know if we’re hearing a demonic voice in our heads or the holt spirits ? Or even our own thoughts ?

many cults begin believing someone is hearing directly from God in their mind and then are appointed and called to lead people through that revelation and annointing.

so is there any way we can make sure what we are hearing is actually coming from God d we aren’t just imagining things or creating our own thoughts or even being influenced by Satan ? Is there anything we have tangibly that can keep us in line with knowing Gods voice from the worlds thinking and ideas in our head ? And never will lead us astray ?
John 10:4
“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

John 10:4
“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
right but what about his word so for instance

if I know this

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:35‬ ‭

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if I’m willing to hear and believe the gospel Jesus sent into the world for salvstion then I’m going to recognize Christs word

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

At this point in learning what God said about salvstion in the future if anyone tells Me a different path I’m aware it’s not Christs word

now when someone tells
Me “ it doesn’t matter if you hold tricked or forgive people when they do wrong to you , your forgiven anyways “

I know that’s not true because I have heard the gospel the truth of God

I don’t think brother that we are meant to just listen for voices , but when we hear the voice thy t is always in agreement with the word of God , we know it is his spirit

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we have a true compass so that people like Jim jones don’t convince us of things that aren’t true we have a record of what God has said out eternal salvation so we can always check the word against what is said

my point is if the spirit is telling us things that are contrary to his word it’s not the same spirit in this we can know and test the spirits

Satan will Never agree with Jesus and his doctrine , the holy spirit will always and forever agree with Jesus and his doctrine

this is why we can sum up salvation saying hear the gospel and believe

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬

If we never hear and accept the gospel word of God were never going to be able to hear his voice it’s just echoing from here

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭

he that doeth truth

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32‬

just as God wrote down his laws in the ot he has also provided four accounts of the gospel because the word doesn’t change it’s written forever

Satan will Never agree and Jesus will
Never stray

I think the Bible answers this, and have no doubt that you know the verses, exceeding abundantly
above all that we ask or think, His love, His peace, His teaching, pulling you out of your own brokenness for Him. and you know these too, Psalms 34:18,51:17, James 4:9-10, every believer is to know Him, we find out about Him in a book, which is all true, we hear rightly divide the word the word of truth and without Him we can do nothing. we don't get to pick time or place to be approved of Him. as He is the Judge of our trial of faith and no other. basically, we are captives of our own darkness, and He is our liberator guiding us to His rest. John 1:4-5, John 3:19-21, 2 Peter 1:19, Hebrews 4:10, Matthew 11:28-30

yes brother that was my point the written word is Gods vehicle to get his word into our hearts of faith

he’s never going to go against what he said and what’s written if we accept what’s written it’s like a safety guard and will keep us in the right spirit and we can always know if a thought or idea is against what Jesus said it’s not from God

the Bible especially the gospel is like looking up at the North Star and knowing your headed the right direction even if you don’t know where it is you are going you can see and follow the light of the stars

Cool analogy... my post again is pretty much saying the same

God has given us the way to find Him, and God can not lie. That's the simple truth. There are so many things we do in life that are simple to us now but wasn't all that simple before we knew how to do them. Walking, swimming, running, reading, writing, all these things are simple until we fail in them. Even in our failures of understanding our failure deduce it down to a simple mistake in an attempt to somehow hide the fact that we know we failed and hope no one saw our failure. But within we are stirring ourselves up something fierce in disgust of our failure and humility of missing the mark of simplicity that somehow caused the failure in the first place. After that, we comfort ourselves just as our parents/guardians comforted us in picking us up and on our feet again despite the countless warnings given in order not to fail. Failure is the largest part of proving one's own faith, and failure continues beyond that in sharing what all believers are simply to be given from God.

In the measure of faith God has given to every man to find Him, I can simply say it is and called His word/instruction, and in the reproof, we are to find Him, and are without excuse not to. His promises remain true for all. It's fine by me if others think differently, as I'm not out to give any private interpretation on this, Romans 12:3 has countless sermons written on it, and I certainly did not write them, for me, it sure explains Romans 10:17 speaking about faith What we believe and think we know of His word pales in comparison to what we ought to know being taught by Him as promised, if we would but frustrate ourselves to the point He asks us to go for Him, of which IMHO, is our brokenness for Him within ourselves as servants. God is our Father
and He has given us a Comforter and Teacher to make us free in knowing who we are in Him, being filled in His fulness.

No. I beg you to seek a closer walk with Jesus today. Start speaking with Him today. He desires personal communion with all His children. He has placed His Spirit within you. Please acknowledge Him and listen as He seeks to guide you. Prayer will be so much more meaningful once you acknowledge and sense His presence. You must take that first step of faith and open that door.

yes amen I also think we’re saying basically the same thing , when I asked about what we had to keep us walking strait it was a bit rhetorical

as usual anything I have to say is just one guys opinion but I’d say what’s written is what God has to say forever so the better we hear what’s written the better shape our mind is going to be in to recognize the lords word when we hear

The gospel is on trial in us, people judge the message by the messenger. :)
