Technically true, but I would like to be pampered with at least a sponge bath from time to time, and if one uses their toilets the house will become very unpleasant unless it is flushed. If it is the only choice one has given where they live... If there was a water source I could access like a creek or lake I would fetch some water in 5 gallon buckets for flushing. If not... don't know what I'd do since I live in the city now.

I guess eventually the old "hierarchy of needs" would kick in and maybe I could forgo a washing, though throughout my life, even when doing missionary work in the jungles of South America I found time and ways to bathe. I like feeling clean for some reason or other.
The Lord provided my best friend a place in an exceptionally pretty area in the country.
Like I think you said, he was faaar more interested in the water sources than in the house. When he saw the pond, the artesian spring and found out that it had a well, he decided to buy the property and house before being given the tour. He has a Royal Berkey gravity purifier so the power can go down forever. He and his wife have plenty of water and a wood stove for heat if the rest of the grid fails.

The older I get, 'physical comfort' seems to become more-and-more important. And, "feeling clean" is a big part of that. I understand completely.
I've never been north of Washington state, but I would think you'd have to be acclimated and pretty tough for rural winters in Alaska..

A former member told us that her church (or perhaps it was a church she knew of) had stocked up on
10,000 frozen turkey dinners. That was maybe two years ago. I mentioned at the time that a power
outage could short-circuit their plans, and have wondered on numerous occasions since then what
has become of those 10,000 meals. They will not keep indefinitely. Another thing is, people stocking
up on things they did not need at the time and had no future use for before the best before date came
and went contributed to the many shortages that happened at the outset of the covid pandemic.
That makes me think that turkey jerky might be a way to extend that self life. If it's sliced, cured and dried enough, a vacuum sealer would make that a big store for an end times pantry. The best way would be to require those who want to benefit to attend a class and processes the birds. That way they have the skill and won't necessarily need to depend on future frozen donations.

Reading a series of books by Millie Copper called Havoc in Wyoming, I have really begun to understand what could happen. It is classed as 'cosy apocalypse' writing as I do not want to frighten myself too much nor do I want graphic or violent stuff. This is about a Christian family who are Preppers and how they and their community adapt to the situations after terrorists attack America. I am finding it compelling as well as full of valuable information.

I live in the UK and am not at all prepared! I don't have money and resources to do much but would welcome basic advice.
I respect those who are well prepared for catastrophic events, it is wise, although it is fascinating to read on the internet about extremely wealthy people who have built luxury bunkers just in case. That might be taking it too far?
I've studied this topic and taken steps without going into personal details.
I would suggest sitting down with your family and scheduling a block of time every week to learn, discuss and implement priorities.

1. Learn what you all would need if XYZ we're to occur. There are a dozen different possibilities. There are many different skills and devices that might be necessary for XYZ emergency.
There are plenty of books and videos available on each topic .

2. Discuss: I would watch and read throughout the week and share the highest priorities with family at the weekly meeting. Make it a pleasant experience with snacks to follow, or however you want to do it. Provide simple achievable assignments for each member. That way they are involved and the work load is spread out. If the children participate, then they will be encouraged when things get bad. They will feel empowered because they will know what to do if/when XYZ occurs. Your family will likely not be able to depend upon anyone but God and each other. It's essential that you are all in agreement and can pull together in times of need, so the times of plenty (Now) is the time to prepare.

3. Implement:. Once you prioritize the needs, then you will all apply these skill development routines and things that are necessary.

For example, potable water is necessary for everyone in not only emergencies, but in daily use. I would get a British Berkefeld model that meets your needs. These are the highest standard purification units available. The do not require electricity. It's been said that the royal families including the queen used them. The largest model is the Royal Berkey. Pour 5 gallons through the top at night and the lower chamber will have 4-5 gallons by morning. Dispense into large glass storage jars, or whatever is able to be handled comfortably. Pour into smaller jars from 1-2 liters for the fridge and ease of pouring. Use this water all if the time for all cooking and drinking. It's the most important thing for the least amount of money. I would get at least 4 purification units. They normally come with 2.
Get a soap free abrasive cloth for gentle cleaning under running water or in a bucket. Ask for an extra set of wing nuts and the sight glass (cost a little more but worth it.)

I'm not selling these right now, but plan to when I open my store. You should be able to find a distributor in your country. Prices vary, but are usually within a similar competitive range here in the states. That may be likewise for your region. They are something you will find beneficial even if everything is stable for the next 5-10 years.

There's your first class. Watch you tube videos about them and feel free to copy my advice if you want. That's what I would start with when you can set aside a few hundred pounds. If there's no money, then you have a goal and can learn skills until there's a budget for needs that cost money. Prepping should lead to better health and financial savings if you do it right. Some people have enough to put lots into freeze dried food and whatnot. Don't think you need to start that way. Just start and establish a pattern that will turn small easily achievable goals into larger goals.

Your family will only benefit by applying those 3 points. Let me know how it goes MaryM.

To your health and happiness!

This may be true; however, the attitude you must have and the question you must ask yourself is:

"What can I do?"

This is a matter of perspective.

I know what it is like to go 7/5/7/9 days without eating. (The four numbers represent four different occasions.)

Never once, for even a moment, did I think about bringing harm to another human being or stealing food from anywhere.

Do no harm. Do not steal. Trust in the Lord.
If only everyone was like you.
I too wouldn't ever wish to harm anyone. If I die, I die. We all must one day. I just trust to God to guide me.

"Yeah, right..."

It may be coming - but - if it reaches this level of control, why would anyone think that it would be 'undone' after it was accomplished?

At whatever point freedom is completely done-away-with, [historically] it does not return - unless, of course, folks stand-up-and-fight-for-it.
It might be more the illusion of freedom (e.g. puppet-masters feigning defeat after a peasant's revolt). Or overt slavery with many "freedoms" conceded for willing participation (e.g. a mark of the beast type system or precursor).

What does "if not sooner" mean when it comes after "within 18 months"...

;)
Ha! It means I'm trying to emphasise that I think its probably more like 3 to 6 months. I don't know about you, but where I am, they're talking covid up again in preparation for more lockdowns.

Have I ever mentioned I have heard people talk like this literally ALL MY LIFE? (Of course I'm only 45 so... From some perspectives that's not really all that long.)

Every time any major world news event happens, I can count on a whole group of people to join in a chorus of, "Yup, here it comes! The end-time is a-coming! They'll be handing out the mark of the beast just any day now. Ooooh, I bet (insert currently famous person) is the Antichrist!"

I wonder how far back it has been going. I know they started hollering when Israel became a nation. How far before that does it go? Were there "end time is a-coming!" people back in the 1930 depression?

Gee... Were they still hollering back when the USA became a nation? "This is it! Events this monumental can only mean the end of time!"

But haven't you seen fulfillment of most of what they've stated over the past 3 years?

I'm not necessarily saying end times are upon us, as like you say, people have been stating that for many years, and our lifetimes are ultimately short in the scheme of things (also, whenever you claim this, you'd be closer than the previous guy). I also believe part of when the end-times comes may depend on people, and ultimately, it would be up to God. But there seems to be a big change coming, simply for the reason that the last 50 plus years of "conspiracy theories" have been fulfilled or been seen by the majority to be true over the course of the past 3.

I wonder how far back it has been going. I know they started hollering when Israel became a nation. How far before that does it go? Were there "end time is a-coming!" people back in the 1930 depression?

I think martial law etc. doesn't necessarily mean end-times are right upon us. Look at the covid lockdowns. Medical martial law for a period, then over for a period. I'm just stating I think it or something similar is coming again soon, but that it will be worse this time.

Hey YOU'RE the one who brought up mark of the beast.

*Lynx sticks his thumbs in his ears, sticks out his tongue and runs off yelling "You started it! You started it!" which is actually kind of hard to yell when you have your tongue stuck out.

(also, whenever you claim this, you'd be closer than the previous guy).
While technically true, it was also true for the new testament churches. :p

That's where I might differ.
My classes focused on things we can do that we should do regardless of the future prophesies. The gift of discernment of spirits has been surprisingly practical. My interest is in helping people to help themselves.
I see a whole generation we live in as to totally dependent upon the large corporations that select gt. There's a reason why cheap fuel costs so much. Do you think this would be the case in the millennium when Christ's throne is in the New Jerusalem?
Much of what is in the news is micromanagement of populations. I'm surprised that more folks didn't listen to the Predictive Programming series I started. The devil is in the details and has told us his plans. However, greater is He Who is in us than he who is in the world.

I just got done posting to MaryM about water purification. That is just one thing everyone should do. I would take it seriously sooner or later. Clean water never harmed anyone.

Christians don't have a clue and when their families suffer, they think some dude in a palace of a hospital is going to help them. Preps means becoming informed and wise. I have yet to find sizable numbers of college students who take this seriously. Why?
Their parents and teachers don't.
Why not?
Few of us have looked at the depressions and learned from them.
They do what the system tells them to do.
As long as the system is providing that which they are accustomed, people accept the incremental changes, even to their demise.

But... Aren't you buying that water purifier from one of those large corporations?

Better learn how to fabricate your own. Besides, what will you do when it breaks?

You mean the trillion dollar corporations that send their toxic waste from mining, metal production and agriculture to be added to drinking water of all Americans' drinking water?
No, not even close, but you are welcome to learn how to make them. That's one of those skills that some learn. The only parts are the canisters, dispenser, purification units and the wing nuts that secure them to the upper chamber. Get extra wing nuts and a couple spare purification units that do the filtering and you're set for years with potable water.

This link is a documentary on the additives to municipal water. It focuses on fluoride, but there are over one hundred chemicals, as well as radiation. I would show this as a two part series if I had children: Two parts to make the lengthy information easier to sit through.

I know nothing of filters, but in the novel the main character talks of the Berkey system. Is that a good one?

These are great ideas but impossible. There is a huge difference in the way Americans and the average English person thinks.

Reading my novel, I am amazed because apart from food, water and fuel, the central family is preparing an immense number of weapons. It is a military preparation. Because guns are central to thinking, it means a bloodbath for sure. I can see the logic but the reality is appalling to me.

This is alien to us English folks. We have absolutely no weapons. I bet the Americans reading this cannot imagine it!
I have known quite a few people in the south and out west who probably have enough guns and ammo to supply a small militia.

It definitely would not comfort me knowing all I have legally to protect life, liberty, and property was a pocket knife.

Disarming the population anytime throughout history meant the government wants total control of the people. Next thing you know your common basic human rights will get fewer and fewer.

The American founding fathers knew this not only by observing history but by living under the tyranny of Great Britain.

That's the brand I use.
I had unexplainable health challenges for a time. My hormones dropped off without explanation. I got off of tap water after looking at all of the options from every company with high level filtration, osmosis and other considerations. Once I started using my Berkey, my health reversed and went back to normal immediately. Less than the cost of a blood work up and office visit, I cured myself of something a bunch of specialists would have thrown a bunch of drugs and hormones at. I have no use for those people. I feel great, because the Great Physician revealed exactly what I needed and what I needed to avoid to be a manly man.

Which novel? The one you mentioned at the O.P. by Millie Copper?
Berkey is just short for British Berkefeld.
It's the brand name and they have a variety of sizes and three different elements/ purification units.
They are sometimes called "candles" because of their cylindrical shape. There's an upgrade from the white ceramic one. It's black and the same is used in every sized Berkey. Mine is the largest and holds up to 8 for more volume and faster flow. That would serve a church or large family. I would avoid their smallest cheapest one because it's made of plastic. A little more can provide a stainless steel model. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions. I'm here to help.

The 10 book series is 'Havoc in Wyoming' by Millie Copper.

I am unfamiliar with a lot of words but learning fast.
