Let me preface this with: I am a God fearing, faithful, practicing Christian with total belief in The Bible.
I do believe we are in a firmament, not only because the Bible says so.... a feather floats to the ground in Canada-but the ocean is sucked up against the earth in Australia?! Hard to believe....

Yeah, gravity is a wonderment to be sure (if only we knew what causes it  .. Colossians 1:17 perhaps?).

I know that a wet basketball can be dried off by spinning it. The Earth is spinning at an incredibly faster speed than my basketball does, and yet, we're all still here. Why? :geek:

God bless you!!

p.s. - finally, is it possible that "firmament" is not the best translation of
רָקִיעַ in Genesis 1:6 KJV  It makes it sound like the Earth is surrounded by and our atmosphere contained within a giant plastic hamster ball ;)

Some say that the asteroids are a figment of our imagination. An illusion. Sort of like how the water sticks on a spherical planet ... supposedly.

Didn't your parents have the "comets" and "meteors" talk with you about where asteroids come from when you were growing up?

Pieces of firmament? Objects from above somehow breaching the firmament, and entering into our atmosphere? Fallen angels? I like the question, and also you putting scripture above science-falsely-called.

Doesn't everything have a firmament? i.e. the firmament of the earth, the firmament of the ocean, the firmament of the sky, the firmament of space. I mean, my face has a firmament, it's just not so vast an expanse.

Thank you all for the amusing answers! It really was a legit question, to see if anyone had any kind of realistic answer. It doesn't require a scriptural answer. Everything is of a scriptural origin... Obviously up for debate as well!

God has storerooms in the heavens for all of his divine judgements. His heavenly armory is alluded to throughout the Bible, but perhaps best answered in Job 38, Praise Jesus.

Hi Burkrules,

Asteroids come from outer space.
They are chunks of matter that travel through outer space. The ones you see are entering the atmosphere faster than you can imagine. That is why they streak across the sky at night in a flash far faster than any jet which is much lower. As they hit air, they are burned up from the friction of the thin layer of atmosphere.

God describes the firmament in the first chapter of His Word.

"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven."

The open firmament is what we call the sky or lower atmosphere. It's where birds fly.

I see that you just joined. I like to share This spiritual gift with new members. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have a good day.

I would encourage you to search out the meaning of ‘firmament’ and the words that came before it in other languages. Also, I would suggest that you consider real-world experimental physics and don’t limit your understanding to memes and flat-earth hypotheses. Gravity is not difficult to comprehend.

And… welcome to CC. :)

Consider the centrifugal force on water on the surface of a spinning tennis ball versus on the surface of a spinning globe Earth. The force is much greater with the tennis ball. ;)

Good morning!
I would encourage you to research Michio Kaku, and his theory of how graphene materials may be used to erect a space elevator to help prelaunch people, and equipment into space. How would that even be possible if we are indeed on a spinning globe?

Michio Kaku is a Japanese-American theoretical physicist, activist, futurologist, and popular science writer. He is a professor of theoretical physics in the City College of New York and CUNY Graduate Center.

Burkeules, i have to say that so far you're pretty awesome mixing up Michio Kaku with Flat Earth.
Kudos to you brother !
Keep on keeping it on.

I'm aware of Michio Kaku. I'm also aware that we are on a spinning globe. ;)

Where do asteroids come from?

If taking at face value, would guess they came from the same source, where Mars, the Sun, Moon, and Venus comes from. What's the big mystery? If you believe in the Bible, than God created the heavens and the earth.

Asteroids could be just smaller orbiting bodies like planets. Halley's Comet was predicted to return by Edmond Halley, who believed in a Concave Hollow Earth.

"Halley's Comet, Comet Halley, or sometimes simply Halley, officially designated 1P/Halley, is a short-period comet visible from Earth every 75–79 years". -wiki
