it's simple, it's a commitment to believe what christ was. with that naturally comes the expectation that your willing to honor his teachings. A new believer isn't likely to know what he needs to repent of right away until he reads it in scripture, it's more of a commitment than a direct action.
Here's a short explanation.

I am not sure why you posted this or what you mean exactly, but "godly sorrow" precedes genuine repentance.

2 Corinthians 7:10

"For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

2 Corinthians 7:10

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Regarding biblical repentance:

Acts 17:29-31

"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead."

Was Paul seeking to change people's minds?

Yes, he was, and that is seen in him addressing the ignorance of the people to whom he was speaking.

Was Paul also seeking to turn people away from dumb idols?

Yes, he most certainly was, and nobody understood this better than the makers of idols themselves.

Acts 19:23-27

"And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth."

True biblical repentance definitely includes the turning away from one's sins.

1 Thessalonians 1:9

"For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;"

The Greek word for "repent" is "metanoia" (noun) and "matanoeo" (verb) you see as defined in the Strongs #3340, 3341: to think differently or afterwards, reconsider. To change one's mind.
This is the mic drop. Scripture backs it up.

God Himself REPENTED! (He changed His mind)

In the KJV, Jeremiah 26:13, 1 Chronicles 21:15, and Joel 2:13 say that God repented.

Basically, it is turning from the created to give all glory to the Creator.
Metanoia is single word. It is a common Greek word. It simply means to change one's mind "away from >> towards"

The subject of the change of mind has to be found in the text whether in scripture or in any other Greek literature.

Here's a short explanation.

:)(y)
This person is a good reference for the grace position.

He brings down the "calvinistic" and "lordship salvation" "works prove salvation" strongholds that have become ubiquitous in most all churches.

I agree and here's one of his more recent examples on that topic. He's been featuring pop culture celebrities lately but doubt that he endorses Ben Shapiro who at another time blasphemed our Lord. I think he is just using the sound bite that Shapiro is explaining what many Calvinists believe.

I discovered him a while back, he always hits the nail right on the head and demonstrates the logical fail of the false doctrine of works prove salvation.

It seemed the simple gospel was almost lost in this "lordship salvation" nonsense but I am noticing more young people coming forward with sound non McArthurite doctrine.
It is awesome!!

How do you know you've done enough for salvation?
youve repented and have peace that passes all understanding! You also obeyed and got baptised. You buried your old self and raised to new life.

Have you never done this..? Each day you work out your salvation and thank the Lord for saving you. He'll give you the mind of Christ so that you arent tempted to keep on sinning. If you keep sinning you'll die in your sins, and Jesus doesnt want any one to perish. You are forgiven.

Jesus said brothers could sin against others and themselves up to 490 times, but if each time they repented they would be forgiven!!

you work it out with Jesus lol

He shows you what to do

see Phillippians 2:12

basically pray and ask Him every day to lead and guide you. Give thanks for everything even in the hard times. When he sends you the helper, allow the helper to help you! Obey him even when Hes not there (disciples knew they would need to do this when Jesus went away!)
“Working out your Salvation” is like working out your body.

You can go to the gym, and get your body in incredible shape.
Or you can be a schlub, and not “work out” your body at all.

You still have your body whichever you choose.

Same with working out your Salvation.

It does NOT mean working FOR your Salvation.

Just amazed and disappointed at the responses here by so many....not everyone but many.

Faith causes a change in attitudes which ultimately causes actions and reactions.

Every time in scriptures Jesus would ask the Disciples "Where is your faith?", when they expressed an attitude that Jesus said was wrong or contrary. (I'm siding with Jesus)

You believe a chair is great for relaxing in and sitting on....so you don't even stop to consider sitting on the ground....you just sit in a chair. The same mindset applies to sinning and/or "works". You have "repented" about sitting on the floor.

Not a difficult concept. Doesn't need a complicated answer or thought process.

I am okay with your disappointment, "works prove salvation" implies works are necessary for salvation.

How many works validate salvation?

Btw I often choose the floor over a chair, weak analogy.

remember back after you first believed how your life started to change. you started reading the Bible regularly and trying to understand more. you didn't hang out with the same people you did in the past. you started changing behaviors and self-destructive activities. your interests started to change. you started sharing your new faith. you started meeting with other believers, some also new and others who had been on the path for a while. you started appreciating nature and life more and seeing things you missed before. you started caring more for your family and others. you were definitely changed but it was a progression.

then came testing and possible hardship that had you asking why and what is the purpose. life became difficult with mounting responsibilities and complexities. it was impossible to navigate all these obstacles without failures and adversity. but you never stopped believing because you couldn't. you questioned and struggled but deep inside you knew the Gospel is true. there is no escaping that once you believed and asked for salvation.

But the question/statement is misformed and illogical.

It's like saying that orange blossom odor causes oranges.

Remember the verse repeated so often in scriptures?

Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.

It's repeated ad nauseum IN SCRIPTURE and people seem to somehow deliberately forget it.
Faith is the action item necessary for our salvation....faith causes attitudes, reactions, and etc which are referred to as Fruits of the Spirit by scriptures.
Because I believe....I live in a manner in keeping with what God has said.

And where you might sit on the floor....most people don't.

The reason I asked is because I think you may not fully understand Philippians 2:12. Verse 13 says that God is at work in us, willing and doing of His good pleasure. It is in light of this reality, that we respond or work out our salvation. We work out what God is working in.
It seemed you were suggesting that we should do certain things in order to work out or produce salvation in us.

Christ is in us, our hope of glory.
It only seems right because He is LORD, He would expect certain things for us to do for Him.
To me, working out our salvation with fear & trembling would include doing what Christ wants us to do.
Since when does God NOT expect obedience? Since when can we walk in full disobedience & expect our salvation to remain intact?
Apostasy will cause us to lose our salvation.
THAT is what the apostasy is about... falling away from God.
Judgment already is upon the house of God for its backslidings... Cant you see it?
But good news - God's judgment is to bring us back to Him... Restoration.
He is doing this to prepare His bride for His coming... a revival by God disiciplining His church.
Know that God is doing all things for our good! :)
