101 degrees today in southeast Texas, seems the100'th meridian is really moving east I have 5 dead trees and both gardens have dried up,no rain since spring...
I posted this on July 14th today is August 14th so another whole month without rain and 100 degree to 106(today's forecast). Went to town a few days ago the grass at Walmart is completely brown other than the round circles where their sprinklers water the trees. The pastures where they grow hay are all dried up and brown everywhere up and down the HWY. I have three more trees I have been watering but I don't think they will make it that are about 75 foot tall but I'm not sure because all of the trees in my yard are going dormant and dropping their leaves like it's the fall. I have two beehives and when it gets above about 104 degrees all of the bees come out of the hive and crawl around all over ground until it cools off. When they try to fly they fly a foot or so and fall back down. I have to feed them both 1:1 sugar water and pollen because there is nothing blooming anymore(not sure if I can save them this year they stopped laying brood)...

It got up to 97F today. Just plain hot. It's building up for 98F tomorrow and between 100F and 105F for the rest of the week. The next two weeks are usually the hottest part of the year.

Smoky! 11/10 or 426! I’m in the thick of BC fires. We are safe, I hope! Although I see it is going to 30C tomorrow. My oldest son was evacuated from Yellowknife, NWT, he is safe in Edmonton. I bought a fancy new air purifier which is getting a workout. This morning, my room as 003. I took the machine into our living room, and it was 110!

Please pray for BC with 360 fires and all the fires in the NWT (250) and the rest of Canada & the US. We need rain, the wilderness is so dry!

I forgot to mention temperatures were in the low 20C for a while, which was good for slowing down and fighting the fires. Today was 29, tomorrow 32. I like the heat, but so do fires. But wind is the worst, and no increased wind in the forecast.,

We are supposed to meet our evacuated son (from Yellowknife, NWT) with our sailboat & go sailing on Friday, provided we have enough wind. We have an issue because we can only pull one thing. So, if we take the sailboat, we have no place to live. If we take the trailer, then we don’t have anything to do because the sailboat will be left at home. Yes, it’s a first world problem. I’m hoping the smoke will be less there. It’s a lake four hours east of here.

It's prep time for a possible hurricane. Topping off gas tanks. Checking out generators. Removing loose objects around the yard. At present time we are just outside of the cone of uncertainty.

Having moved to NE Tennessee 2 1/2 years ago I don't miss the hurricane aspect having lived in Orlando for 20 years an 6 years in Clearwater. Pray that all goes well with you. I survived quite a few hurricanes and tropical storms, no damage to property whatsoever. Keeping the food cold was a bit problematic though when the power went out. Hot too, no AC.

Experience is the best teacher. After Opal, we knew that a good generator is a must. It was a lifesaver when Michael came through and leveled all the trees and the entire power distribution network of our co-op. We are not in a flood zone and that's a blessing. Falling trees and loose debris turns the wind into a grinder and a lot of building damage.
