Regrets on Quitting

What are some things you started but ended up quitting, and ended up regretting (at least a bit) later on?

I just reorganized my books and saw my French dictionary. I took French for a few years but quit....not a major life regret but there is still a feeling that I wish that I continued/tried harder.

I'm pretty sure you missed a golden opportunity to start a thread titled "You quitter!"


You're not missing anything, imo. I took one year of french because my high school required one year of a foreign language (any) back in the 90's. I didn't remember much and never have wished I remembered more.

Horse riding was something I started in my late teens. I got bolted with, hurled off several times, bitten, terrified.
I wanted to be an instructor, but it was not to be.
I wish I'd persevered as I really enjoyed it. When the horse was good enough to accommodate my shortcomings.

I've quit a few things, but never anything I regretted. I always had solid reasons for quitting them.

Starting, now, that's a different matter. There are a few things I regret starting.

The army.

I took a year of French in high school too. Got a D. Only French word that I know is Oui.

I joined this thread so I could quit the thread, and then reflect on my my regrets.

I'm afraid I can't share my thoughts later, because that would require me to unquit my quit, and I guess I'd be in the wrong thread for that.

i wished i learned how to play the bass guitar. started 4 times but didn't go thru. don't really regret it because my time was really to full with all the other hobbies & careers.

My regret is the acoustic guitar. I started learning for less than a year and stopped. It's been 10yrs now but I do still have the guitar.

Not that I have quit a lot of things, but I honestly cannot recall ever regretting quitting anything in my entire life.

However, I definitely have regretted not telling different people different things over the years, and that is why I always try to say what I believe needs to be said now, even though that rarely, if ever, turns out well for me. If nothing else, then I have peace of mind in knowing that I am at least being my true self before God and others while telling people what I truly think, and how I truly feel...even as I am doing right now.

I also regret staying in places or relationships for way too long a period of time when I knew, deep down inside, that I never fit in to begin with. If I am to be totally honest, then some of those places have definitely been online forums. In retrospect, I cannot honestly say that anything I have ever posted (and I have made thousands of posts over the years) made a real difference in anybody's life, and that is sad. Not that my words could not have made a difference, but they never seem to.

I also have a sort of foreboding that I will ultimately regret not starting certain things during my lifetime, which is why I need to spend more time in prayer seeking God's will for the remainder of my life.

Finally, I can just about guarantee myself that I will ultimately regret making this post because nobody really cares what I think. Well, God does, but that is about it.

mastering the guitar is not easy. many of the big time pros worked very hard at it. fortunately for my brother & i, we started learning our instruments at 10 years of age. he: guitar, me: drums.

Let's put this in a different perspective.

Sometimes I make a snarky post, and nobody laughs but me, and then I'm RELIEVED that nobody cares what I think.

Many years ago, I took piano (probably my favorite instrument) lessons for a few months, but I ultimately gave up on that. In my particular case, I honestly felt like I was trying to purchase something that I definitely was not gifted in. Sort of like when Simon the sorcerer sought to purchase the gift of God with money.

Anyhow, I have never regretted giving up on that, and I still enjoy listening to others playing the piano to this day.

My other regret is not telling seoulsearch she is super awesome.

yes. i'm better than i ever was because i keep inventing new off-signature beats & fills.

What make and model do you have? I still have the acoustic I bought after coming out west in 1977 .

It is a Norman B12, hand made in Quebec. I also have an electric Fender Squire .

I used to have a Yamaha classical guitar also, but three guitars was at least one too many LOL.
