TIMBER!

How long until the tree comes down? Does your family leave it up until January 6th? Did you take it down today? Is there always an argument between those who want to take it down fast and those who want to leave it up a while?

We take it down after my birthday on Jan 9. My wife's birthday is Dec 23. We call it the '17 days of Christmas'. Actually I'm the one who is tasked to remove all the bulbs and stuff, place the tree in a lawn and leaf bag, and stick it out in the shed. Gotta put the stocking holder in the shed too. Bit of a hassle if you asked me. This is probably due to my Scrooge tendencies.

No tree this year but I'll make amends next year!

I also had no tree this year, and I regret nothing! I will have no tree next year as well.

When we've had a tree in the past, we take it down about the time half the needles have fallen from the tree.

Fake tree for the win! No sap, no spilled water, no needles to extract from your socks and carpet.

It will, however, come down before we return to work/school on the 6th.

I actually have a year-round tree.

I love Christmas lights, so I don't limit them to just once a year. I used to have a couple strings of hundreds of lights wrapped around two chairs. One night when I was at work, my parents snuck in with an artificial palm tree (in the theme of living in a hot climate,) took all of those lights and wound them around the whole tree, then slipped away like two little elves into the night.

I came home in the morning from work to a colorful, awesome blinking tree and have had it ever since.

Over the years, I've even added extra lights (probably just about 1 string shy of being a fire hazard,) and all kinds of trinkets my friends have sent me -- owl socks, crocheted ornaments, two birds (Blueberry the blue jay and The Crimson Cardinal, who looks a bit like a feathered bandit!)

The tree itself has even been bequeathed, "The Party Tree," as it looks like it could be a centerpiece at a big tropical party.

My idea of a "party" is a stack of books with an endless mug of tee, and The Party Tree is always happy to supply just the right ambience year-round.

We have a couple reusable trees. This year I didn't much want to have it up, but my kids still do. My 14 y.o didn't much care for all the lights and decor around town, he wanted to see lights on his tree at home, so it went up... eventually (Christmas Eve, just before midnight).
I hate doing lights so told him he would have to do them, and you know what happened?
I always spend so much time with those darn things and never get them just right! Here it was my son's first time hanging the lights on the tree and it really did turn out perfect (and that's not just proud mama talk, I mean he did a fantastic job!) I'm actually going to be a little sad when I tell him to take it all down next weekend.

i have a artificial tree, i do not take it apart, it sits in it's own corner in the basement storage room ( i do take all the decorations off).

so as not to take it apart, i carry it around the house on the outside, so when i take it down depends on how soon it is forecast to rain after Christmas,,

We don't believe in killing an evergreen for Christ mass. We buy a healthy ball root evergreen instead. Keep it watered in a special tub that keeps it till late spring in the house. And then we plant it in our yard on Easter.

I now live in an evergreen forest. Can't see the neighbors for the trees. lol

It's been years since my family has celebrated with a tree usually we just put up rugs around the house when it starts getting cold outside then in December we pin up a big cross on the wall made of white lights.
