    You are not necessarily changing the fate of the dead, if God is present at all points in time, that means that everyone is alive in God's time, which means that no one is dead in God's time just our time. Would that not mean that our prayer now could change someone's strength to overcome a spiritual battle in the past? Yes, we know it has happened because of history, but since we pray it today it would be in history

    And we would not know if it helped or not, rather we would have to have faith that our prayer had an effect?

    no where does the Bible teach that a child can pray for their dead parent to have a better existence in the after life and that God grants such requests. But you are welcome to believe as you wish
