    Understanding God’s election

Just out of curiosity, how do you define coming to Jesus? What do you think that actually means?

    Understanding God’s election

I understand that, but Isa 54:13 in particular, and Isa 54 in general, are saying that ALL of the saved - every last one - are taught by, AND learn by, God - no exceptions.

    Understanding God’s election

Has someone actually been taught if they haven't learned, especially if the teaching is by God - hence the "great the peace of thy children" in the same verse, which means, they learned.

    Understanding God’s election

I could be wrong, but I think that yes, we might actually be able to infer that. If we go back to the OT verses that are referenced in v45 by the "it is written in the prophets", we can actually go back and look at those verses. As I understand them, they pertain to ALL of those saved, not just...

    Understanding God’s election

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest that you consider 6:29 and the doctrine identified in it. So, wherever you find belief, variations of belief, or doctrines built upon or from belief, mentioned in the subsequent verses, they should be viewed through the lens of 6:29, as they are a...

    Understanding God’s election

Just a suggestion, Rufus, but IMHO you might also consider adding v44 to that list, where Jesus states that no one can come to Him unless explicitly drawn to Him by the Father, and that those not drawn can never receive eternal life. This declaration eliminates all other supposed paths to Christ...

    Understanding God’s election

Okay but doesn't God, not just enable us, but fundamentally change us and our perceptions so that no other conclusion is possible nor feasible for us other than what the gospel conveys as its tenets of salvation? We are informed that for those whom God saves, He gives unto them a new spirit, a...

    Understanding God’s election

Sorry Magenta, I'm not sure I am entirely following your point (my fault) but if you're referring to the part of my comment regarding law, the law that I was referring to was the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, no other law. [Rom 8:2 KJV] 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ...

    Understanding God’s election

If I correctly understand your point, Rufus, I would respectfully disagree and suggest it is reconciled only by becoming born-again. God places His laws (the law of life through Christ) into the heart and minds (NC) of those He saves, making their will (although not always perfectly executed) a...

    Understanding God’s election

Yup, great post, Rufus. It's hard to see how he doesn't perceive the "no man " of Jhn 6:44 and 6:65 resolving his logical dilemma -that no man - as-in none whatsoever - being the intension of the verses, but that he believes there are still individuals who somehow remain outside of that. Given...

    Understanding God’s election

Magenta, I referenced you in my prior post regarding hearing that is spiritual. In reading your post above, I may have misunderstood your intent in that regard. If I did misunderstand and incorrectly referenced you, I apologize, it was not my intention to do so you or to incorrectly attribute to...

    Understanding God’s election

No. The "all" of those who will be drawn, is defined by v44. The Father draws only those whom He intends Christ to raise unto salvation on the last day. Their refusal has nothing to do with it. If chosen, they will/must come to a belief in Christ because the Father has commanded that it be so...

    Understanding God’s election

[Jhn 6:45 KJV] 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. The coming to Jesus is intended in the spiritual sense, not in the physical sense. It does not mean they first come to Jesus...

    Understanding God’s election

To state it more clearly, v45 says "cometh unto me" - no exceptions - those taught by the Father must come to Jesus i.e. believe. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

    Understanding God’s election

Yes, it does, because to believe in Christ, they first must be born of God, and no one can truly believe but that they are first taught by God. Being taught is the prerequisite to believing. Read v 45 again. Being taught by God and believing are inextricably linked.

    Understanding God’s election

[Jhn 6:44-45 KJV] 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. [1Jo...

    Understanding God’s election

Not everyone has been taught by the Father. Only those who have, come to Jesus. [Jhn 6:44-45 KJV] 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man...

First, sorry I'm late to the party, Rufus, apparently, even though I'm set to "watch" for this thread, I'm not always notified when posts occur so I have to remember to actually check it myself otherwise I miss them. Anyway, jumping forward a few posts past your first question, I noticed your...

Tasted Death for every Man !

And the answer Jesus gave to them was that there was nothing they could do for it - that it is all the Father's work. That may be what you're saying but it not what those verses are saying. Read them again very carefully this time, If someone has to do something to obtain grace, then it...
