    Understanding God’s election

You mean, this? [Jhn 20:8-9 KJV] 8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. 9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. to this? [Act 13:47-49 KJV] 47 For so hath the Lord commanded us...

    Understanding God’s election

[2Co 2:15-17 KJV] 15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 16 To the one [we are] the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who [is] sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not as many, which...

    Understanding God’s election

Sorry, I misstated it. I should have said "and as many as believed became ordained to eternal life", not how it was phrased" Not enough coffee yet. @studier

    Understanding God’s election

I don't think much of the Gospel? Really? I can't think of anything further from the truth. I place and base it upon its centerpiece: Jesus Christ - that He, and He alone is the Savior who gives salvation. Man cannot give it to himself. Do you agree? Everything I post comes from and goes to that...

    Understanding God’s election

I don't have the mental energy to get into a deep debate about anything, including what I'm having for lunch. I will say however that I have heard people try to reverse the verse to say because they believed, they became appointed to eternal life, but I don't think that is logically possible...

    Understanding God’s election

Yes, I agree with that, with the that being "after we are in Christ". Being placed in Christ occurs first by God, with the renewal of the mind occurring after that - that was my point.

    Understanding God’s election

I don't follow you. It seems to me that most, if not all, of those verses are saying their belief was a result of having been chosen (or ordained) to eternal life, from/by which, they came to believe. That was my point - that true belief is an outcome of having been chosen by God to eternal life.

    Understanding God’s election

It may have taken you 30+ years to grow in the awareness of it- and for many that is also true - for me too - yet, the receiving of that awareness is not always simultaneously to it occurring - one a result of a change of spirit; the other, a renewing of the mind that follows after it.

With "sounds to me" being the operative phrase.

    Understanding God’s election

Yes, how long do you think it takes God, when He is ready to, to instill in one of His elect, a new heart, a new mind, a new spirit and a renewed mind? To go from unsaved to saved, from non-believing to believing, happens in a "poof" and that by God. Otherwise, remaining infected with the old...

    Understanding God’s election

I know, truly astounding, isn't it? I don't want to come out and say they're actually blind, but if they're not, they certainly need an eye exam.

    Understanding God’s election

Those verses speak for themselves - belittling the gospel doesn't change anything,

    Understanding God’s election

Yeah, explained, but explained incorrectly. The number of times it is explained incorrectly, doesn't change the meaning of the verses. Did you read v4:3? You seem to have missed it - that the gospel is hidden to unbelievers. If spiritually blinded to the gospel, they remain unable to believe...

    Understanding God’s election

[2Co 4:3-4 KJV] 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. [1Co 2:14 KJV] 14 But the natural man...

    Understanding God’s election

Sorry, I misunderstood your reply in my prior post. It does mean that through scripture and the Holy Spirit, those saved are given complete understanding as to the tenets of salvation and those are the only way it can be obtained.

    Understanding God’s election

No, that is your mistake. It means all spiritual understanding and wisdom comes only from scripture and the Holy Spirit alone.
  17. R

    Understanding God’s election

Yes, it does. Do you understand what "thoroughly furnished" means? Unless one has received understanding, they cannot be perfect (completed) - thoroughly furnished - furnished with spiritual understanding "unto ALL good works" of salvation. Not only are they "furnished" with spiritual...

    Understanding God’s election

I believe that was meant by "That the man of God may be..." of 2 Ti 3:17 - that being identified in the verse as the "man of God', they already had become saved, born-again, and indwelt with the Holy Spirit, and by the Holy Spirit, along with scripture, become perfect (complete), thoroughly...

    Understanding God’s election

Did you forget already? You stated: " Look at my post and your response. You clearly didn't even understand what I wrote but you want me to think you understand the Bible? Aren't You just precious! Bless Your Heart! " So, I asked you to explain what it is that I didn't understand about "what I...
