I was simply answering an honest question from John146 and I ended it with the below statement in my post..and that's the last I'm talking to you about this..I'm simply asking you to please honor the OP's request..thank you.

The question of whether to speak or not to speak can be for another thread as I'm sure there are lot's of them in CC now.
I carefully re-read the OP and do not see what you claim the OP's request is. It seems
you simply wish to control what others say, while you derail other threads LOL.

OP: this question is for tongue speakers.
We had that other thread if it's Biblical a few weeks back. Not gonna write it again.

Well not really, she said "I guess I was curious about how much you all speak in tongues, and what is the extent of it. Meaning lots of words, or not so much. " That is the premise of her post. She's not asking if its right or wrong or about doctrine.

I began with a few words, I was rather young and unsure of what I was feeling. Over time the Spirit will flow and you will speak more often. For me it is a more private prayer thing but I have prayed for others and spoken.

Simply ignore those who are trying to upset the thread. People here jump in on a subject whether they are off in left field or not.Dont let them discourage you. Pay them no mind. People feel the need to troll threads and derail them to the subject they want to talk about. Ignore them and don't be discouraged.

I agree...most of the time when I am praying in tongues it is in private as well and there is a growth in it as well as you described. The more you pray with your spirit - the easier it flows out. Sometimes I find the language soft and other times it's very strong and forceful. Have you found that too?

So the premise cannot be established and therefore it must continue without examination? What does that say about the merits of the case?

I understand the predicament you are placed in since few if any can say that they speak in a language other than their own so one can assume that they are speaking in ecstatic utterances. They are embarrassed to make that statement in public yet somehow they feel it is impressive to God.

So now you say don't shine the light into this thread just let us go on in darkness. The do not disturb sign is out.

If you believe something you should be able to defend it from the bible.

I agree one should be able to defend what they believe the Word of Gods says however, it is not the job to convince one who has his or her mind already made up as to what they think of the subject; to force one to accept " Iam " right is nothing more than pride and it will not edify :) The bible is very clear on the Working, Empowering, and gifting done by the Holy Spirit in the Old and New testament. many many verses and chapter that have shown the working of the "Spirit of the Living God" in the man and women of God.

Here is some of what she said in her OP....hopefully this will stop people from derailing this thread ..

This question is for tongue speakers,

I guess I was curious about how much you all speak in tongues, and what is the extent of it. Meaning lots of words, or not so much. I only have a few phrases that come out
.

Yes,being in ministry I have prayed with people that have cancer or a marriage is breaking up,it seems more forceful during those times.

How does that mean that we cannot question what another says? Isn't questioning others a main part of what of what goes on in these fora? This is a discussion forum, after all. One person trying to dictate the content of a thread, especially while they are busy derailing another thread, seems hypocritical to me. Bringing Scripture to bear, comparing it to what is said, seems highly appropriate in the Bible Discussion Forum. Telling us is is not welcome is weird.

When you first started to exercise faith in speaking in tongues did you have a major attack against doing it? I certainly did at first. Now my mind is completely renewed to speaking in tongues and I don't get attacked anymore.

But he recently did in that other thread and me too. People can ask questions, but I'm not gonna answer them here again. All the threads that get derailed I don't even read anymore btw.

No,I didn't experience that but I was in my late teens maybe early 20s when I was filled.

I think you oughta quit tempting folks to argue & stay on the topic, please, before you start growing troll ears.

the great thing is we do not all have to agree with the topic :) it is ok ... opinionated, unscriptural and confrontational is also a language of the immature, ignorant and unlearned let them be :)

Try opening your eyes, mind and spirit when reading the Scriptures, it helps!

Stop playing your old scratched and worn out 33rpm record at 78rpm! :p
Aren't you just precious.

The argument is not that God is moving in the church. The argument is that God is not moving in the confusion and disorder of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.

There is no agreement among those who profess these gifts as to what they are. Ecstatic utterances or actual human languages? The intoxication produced by the least of the gifts precludes any reasonable admonition from Gods word?

Is it not the same Holy Spirit that unites all believers? I do not expect any man to convince any man of biblical truth but I do contend that the Holy Spirit will bring conviction in the tender heart, the heart that truly loves and desires to serve the Lord.

The actions of the Pentecostal and Charismatic churches testify against their holiness and purity before the Lord. The very things that Paul was rebuking the Corinthian church about is common place and even sought after in the modern church.

God does not operate outside of His word. If it's not biblical don't do it.

That's real mature of you. Admonishing folks to stay in the word of God is always right.

You still cannot admit that you cannot define tongues from the bible to determine if they are consistent with the tongues of Pentecost. You cannot demonstrate that the tongues you adore and claim to operate today are not the same as the pagan tongues of the apostolic time period.

I am not sure if my mindset has anything to do with it, but I do not believe my tongues are limited to vocabulary but rather to the discretion of the Holy Spirit. I do not put a barrier to them but believe that He is able to pray that which He desires for my spirit to pray.

This being said, when I started speaking in tongues again (after a long hiatus due to peer pressure as a child) the interpreter and I inquired to the Holy Spirit why the tongues were so fluent and smooth and He said that it was because it was "bubbling up for such a long time." I had it since I was a child, though I thought I was making up the words! haha I didn't realize it was the gift of tongues.

The Lord does seem to give people a certain vocabulary that He builds up, though. Its like any gift of the Spirit some people for whatever reason start out with a fully developed gift and others have to build it up over time. The Lord knows why He does this, but I can say that its funny.

I sought the gift of tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit all the while I already possessed it. I sought something that I had, little did I know as a child I had been using this gift all along. One day as I mimicked what tongue speakers sound like in a discussion on the Holy Spirit (to give an example of what it sounds like, not mockingly) in front of two tongue interpreters their jaws dropped. "Ben! You just spoke in tongues!" I had no clue. That led to a three night exploration into the gift and fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit, through tongues and interpretation. Fun.

Let me guess, you are into cessationism? You are free to do as you wish in your free will but you do so opposed to the things of God. This mindset quenches the Lord, and grieves Him. You, yourself, have gifts residing in you hardly even touched. If only you would believe, you could edify those around you. Your doctrine limits your service.

It's a beautiful gift that I believe all believers can have if they ask for it. I've come to see in walking with Jesus, walking by faith is how we do this. There is no other way to walk into anything in this life as a believer except by "faith".

And no one can derail your faith unless you allow them too. God has given us a measure of faith and it's our personal responsibility before God to walk it out. It is our reasonable service and it is a precious thing. This not only serves God but it serves us well.

In one of the other threads about wisdom the verse truly defined what it is when we are walking in the Spirit of wisdom given by Him. Observation will show us if we are walking in a spirit of wisdom. We certainly don't want to walk in our own wisdom when it comes to the things of God

James 3:17-18 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled) then it is peace-loving, courteous considerate, gentle. It is willing to yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is whole-hearted and straightforward, impartial and unfeigned free from doubts, wavering and insincerity

And the harvest of righteousness (of conformity to God's will in thought and deed) is the fruit of the seed sown in peace by those who work for and make peace in themselves and in others that peace which means concord, agreement, and harmony between individuals, with undisturbedness, in a peaceful mind free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts.

Amplified Bible.
