Just a quick thought, if God spoke the universe into creation, why can't
he end it with a word. Why would he need to use a big rock?

In fact wouldn't the big rock be part of the created universe and also be destroyed.

Come on admit it, that's deep :p

Yes God could do that, but that is not how He said it would happen.

Not even an asteroid does this, as one can see in Revelation events still take place on earth after the burning mountain thrown into the sea, and the great star falling in Revelation 8:8-11.

A slight correction here, if I may? In truth, almost NO ONE is "reformed or rehabilitated by doing time" for ANY crime.

This is so true, as I see all the time of repeat offenders, even in my own flesh family. I knew people who were purposely getting their selves thrown in jail, from homeless to messengers for someone already in there. To just being institutionalized, not knowing how to cope with the outside world, to many other reasons. I have seen sex offenders living on the streets, because they can not get a job, they have a harder time finding a place to live. I worked with a man who was a sex offender, and at the same time homeless..Pretty funny guy, could get many laughing. But I knew to keep certain boundaries, and he knew what boundaries he was to keep by law. If he could not take food to certain people, than there were others that would deliver it. He had a gambling problem, so I am sure that his past crime was the only reason he was homeless. I offered my couch to him, and he stayed a little while. He was only asked to leave for taking advantage of situations! At that time, I did not know he was a register sex offender, and I was working with the state to get my own children back (see the dilemma). It was my employer who informed me of his situation, and I asked him if this was true. I than explained the dangers that that has put me in, I offered to find a friend that would let him stay, that did not have kids..but he refused, and left. He was hurt for a while, but we stayed friends. I have not seen him around lately, for he had other addictions too. He kept saying how he wanted to leave the state, he might have done that! Than there was another offender, always keeping in mind that God died for them too! Where he showed signs of perversion or repentance, and even wanted me to trust him with my kids. I had to tell him "No!" (unrudely, just as if someone offered me more coffee) He wanted to know why not, asking me in front of others as though I insulted him. Several times this person kept trying to put me on the spot, to see where my forgiveness stands. With out seeing repentance, I disconnected myself from that person's life physically, but I do still pray for him to be healed!

We could also ask
Are legalists a liability in churches?
How many of them would welcome a sex offender into the church?

Whatever and whenever it happens it won't just be planet earth it will be the
whole of creation effecting the sun, moon and stars and the heavens rolling up as like
a scroll. I think our picture of the end times is too small. We try to fit tiny
jigsaw pieces into a massive puzzle.

One thing I do know every knee will bow and confess Jesus is Lord.

I agree with Willie on this one that what matters the most is our existing
on-going relationship with Jesus and for some the end times could be
tonight, tomorrow etc.

Part of me naturally wants to cling to this life, but a part of me thinks what for
when I can spend an eternity with Jesus. No more tears, sorrow, death,
disease.

I would like to give Adam and Eve a piece of my mind. Lol

Ooops sorry wrong thread. :)

In truth "the end" could come for some of us before dawn tomorrow. That is a lot more worthy to spend time worrying about, if worry is your thing.

Exactly. That heart attack, that car crash, that your-ticket-is-punched moment is your rapture, baby!

That's why God tells us to prepare for the future, but be ready today.

Physical death can not be considered the rapture.

Because if we immediately go to heaven to be with the Lord after we die then Paul lied when he described This event.

Paul said the dead in Christ will rise first, there would be no need for them to rise if they are already there.

JOHN 3:13.
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven,
even the Son of man which is in heaven.

HEB. 11:40.
God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

So you could have had fellowship on this forum and no one would have ever ask about your history...instead you came here to stir up a issue you knew would cause contention and strife because folks try to balance our desire to forgive with our desire to protect children... Im not sure i would want you in my church, not because of your past..but because of what you are now.

please don't be unkind to one who is seeking acceptance. Perhaps he did not want to be accused at some future time of being deceptive. WE don't know the specifics, while I understand we should above all protect our children, how would our lives show up under intense scrutiny?

I actually do,know how to read, otherwise I wouldn't be able to function in society..I'll copy and paste what you said, perhaps you didn't accurately type out your thoughts? I know that happens to me more often than not..
Sex offenders ARE a liability, because they rarely stop re-offending. Pedophiles and rapists can't change their behaviors.

Jesus can change the desires of our heart-EVERYONES.

Jesus can change the desires of our heart-EVERYONES.

Yes some people will unfortunately always put the lies society spews to keep people in fear over going what the wonderful power God's grace can do.

That and they blindly take things said as facts without looking into it themselves.

Those who claim they can't be rehabilitated and rarely stop reoffending show they are following the lies.

First off, God views every person, even the absolute most evil person who has ever lived on this earth to be worthy of his only sons blood!!

Second I might say that we have no business saying who can or who can’t be part of CHRISTS CHURCH. It is his church, he purchased it with HIS OWN BLOOD, not ours.

Third, its not our place to judge anyone, but to be humble servants and to show love to EVERYONE.
Jesus said very plainly in the verses below that he especially welcomes sinners, but not the self righteous who think their behaviors qualify them to be worthy of him.

Mark 2:15-17English Standard Version (ESV)
15 And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 And the scribes of[a] the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Matthew 9:10-13English Standard Version (ESV)
10 And as Jesus[a] reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Sex offenders are painted with a extremely wide brush, one size definitely don’t fit all. Even if once size did fit all, anyone who repents of such sin, believes, confesses can be baptized into the body of Christ for the remission of their sins, would be justified in the sight of God. Who are we to condemn a person who God calls clean? We are all unworthy and all sinners, but only by the gift of grace we are justified!! We shouldn't minimize our own sins while magnifying other peoples, especially brothers and sisters in Christ.

Luke 18:9-14English Standard Version (ESV)
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[a] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Are we really forgiven or are we “kinda forgiven” as long as someone is keeping an eye on you!?!?! I think we fail to trust God enough sometimes, and think that we humans can use our own wisdom and strength to protect us from the enemy. I am definitely not condoning sex offenses or any other sin, but I don’t believe that anyone should have to wear any sort of public label as a lifetime requirement, especially among brothers and sisters in Christ. If one is forgiven in the sight of God, then we should treat them as such (in my opinion)

aside from the "bringing a thread back from the dead" thing....:p

Having convicted sex offenders in your church would sometimes be ok, depending on what their "crime" was, and what their probation includes. Some offenders cannot be within a few thousand yards of ANY children. Many cities have areas of the city where offenders cannot live.

Our church has a background check done on any person that is involved with ANY part of the children's ministry, whether working in the nursery, or teaching classes...

The biggest issue is the legal threat of a person attending your church, and finding out that an offender is "mingling" with their kids... lawsuits ensue, and there are LOTS of lawyers seemingly EAGER to prosecute a church...

So, it's not a matter of the church not forgiving an offender, it's a matter of survival of the church, in the case of a million-dollar lawsuit (or more)...

Large churches are much more likely to be affected by this issue.... deep pockets attract lawyers...

Since "the church" isn't the legal organization of a business entity or structure, unfortunately, it DOES boil down to the people (who are actually the church) not being forgiving.

in the OT, children who stabbed their parents in the back were killed, stoned!
in the NT, Paul tells us to 'honor' our parents, so that we may live long on the land',
this is the 1st. Commandment of Promise, so, dis-obeying nullifies the Promise...
this is one of God's formulas, an 'conditional' promise...

We need to show more compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. We need to recognize the need for humility when we apply the story of when the pharisees brought the adulteress before Jesus to the church. Its not our place to judge anyone lest we become judged ourselves. You condemn yourself if you cast your judgment. Also, anyone who claims liability is not a servant of God, but a servant of money. The church is there to help transform people into new creations under His saving grace... But it can't do that if its more concerned about liabilities and protecting itself.

It doesn't matter who we are, whether you're a serial killer, or a pedophile, Nazi, Muslim, animal killer... Whatever. Anybody can be saved by Him if they truly want it. Grace comes from Yeshua, and Yeshua alone. And nobody... I repeat nobody can say otherwise, no matter how powerful or rich you are. So long as we are capable of sin, it is not our place to judge others. The only thing pure and absolute is Jesus and His ways; not the system, not society... Him. Serve Him, not money. Anyone who says otherwise is doing Him a disservice and should rewatch Titanic.
