What is the difference between supernatural and spiritual. I've been at this a long time but I'm still 'teachable'.
True that the folks of Ephesus burned their books. It is a good / necessary thing that we rid our homes of any thing that may be an open door for demonic activity. This ought to be done in prayer and in depth.
"I was also born with a hereditary bondage to the occult."
Would you expand on this some? I had an uncle that was a Church of GOD pastor that fell into the spiritualist movement some time in the 60's. He was almost dead probably due to judgement but he survived and later became a Baprist pastor for many decades until his passing at 80+yars old.
The prefix "super" means something is added or something enlarged, not something entirely different. We use the word "superstructure" for the top parts of a ship. "Superbowl" is the ultimate event of that sport. So "Supernatural" pertains to the
natural realm.
Man was created with amazing abilities. I believe that Adam and Eve could fly. How else could they rule the birds? I have trouble coming up with a unique username. Adam named all the animals. He had to form a name and remember it so he did not use it again. That shows amazing mental ability.
My mother was a teenager in WW2. She knew when the German bombers were coming and was in the shelter before anyone else. That was an occult spirit. Her side of the family were in the occult, holding seances and Ouija board sessions. My mother believed in astrology. She took the horoscope seriously. We had a poltergeist in the home for some years.
I was drawn to the occult too. I read many books about the occult, no doubt because I had the evil spirit in me.
Those who get deep in the occult are usually seeking to control. That is the essence of witchcraft. It helps to remember that witchcraft is a work of the flesh.
The "spiritual" is an entirely different realm. It is God's realm, not the natural. Remember that Satan sought to be like God
(Isaiah 14:12-15). Satan tempted Adam to seek to be like God also. We know how that turned out.
Man was created spirit, soul and body. When Adam disobeyed, it was his spirit that died to God. Adam could have eaten from the tree of life and so lived forever. Eve was enticed because she used her soul to look at the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
So man became bound to the natural realm. He can only go by what he sees, hears, feels and desires. Romans 1 reveals the terrible descent of mankind.
We see the contrast in 1 Corinthians 15:45 "
"So also it has been written: "'The first man Adam became into a living soul;'" the last Adam into a life-giving spirit."
This is why the unbeliever does not receive the things of God because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14). That is why reason and logic are often to the believer. Trying to discern the spiritual by natural means is a recipe for confusion, doubt and unbelief.
